Thinking of getting sirius radio

Thinking of getting sirius radio for the car. My car came with the service so all I have to do is phone to activate it. Not interested in the sports channels but the music and talk radio would be cool.

It seems to cost around $13 a month for what I want.

Who else has it and what do you think.

I had it for 4 years. Its great and there are tons of channels to listen too. Though I pretty much stayed on the same channel the entire time I drove my car. I cancelled my service a few months ago. Because the Florida sun killed my radio receiver. And the new one was too expensive I thought.

They would of sent me a replacement but I wanted the new one lol...

Plan on getting it again probably around Christmas time.

I have it and love it. Tons of different channels, much better reception than other radio and no commercials. There is definitely something for everyone, I would recommend getting it.

Just like cable TV, once you get it, you can never go back to free radio. I've had mine for about 4 years, and don't think I could survive without it.

I got it as a gift after they pulled Howard Stern off the radio in my area. I love it and can't imagine being without it.

It's awesome and they often have multi year package offers. Ask when you call in.

I called to order it once.. Funny story.

I just wanted to listen to it on my PC, as they offer free streaming like that.. I'm always sitting here anyways, so it just made sense to me.

They needed a "radio ID" to sign me up though. I said I didn't want a radio, had no need for one, etc. They couldn't sign me up without me buying a radio I didn't want.

So he says he has an idea, puts me on hold, comes back and says he talked it over with the guys there, and they think I should just ask a friend who has Sirius if I can use their password. That way I could just login and listen!!

I was like uhhhhh you're suggesting I pirate your service?

He was like "I... guess yeah" lol..

I mean I called with my credit card in hand, way to do business!

I've had it since Stern switched over. Love it! I'm either on Channel 100 (Howard) or 1 (Top Hits). The girlfriend and I agree that Stern and I own the radio in the morning. I even upgraded the free streaming online radio they had as a part of the package to the premium bit rate and it sounds flawless.

I <3 Howard Stern

4 radios and HowardTV

Sirius kicks ass, no commercials and good music.

I think it was better before they merged with XM tho

It's really good, but both XM and Sirius have gone downhill since the merger - some good channels eliminated, and whoever is programming the music channels has gone with the (much smaller) Sirius playlists, probably for cost reasons. So the selection of music is smaller than it used to be (more repeats, I often hear many of the same songs every day when I'm in the car for an hour or so) and they've made some bizarre decisions on which jocks to keep, which dayparts to put them in, and so on.
Can't speak to the hip-hop and top-40 channels, but if you're older, the best time to listen is afternoon drive on the west coast, early evening on the east coast...Terry Motormouth Young on the 60s channel, J.J. Walker on the 70s channel, Al Hunter on the 80s channel, Richard Blade on 1st Wave (Classic Alternative), Jeff Foxx on Soul Town.
And of course Howard in the morning (although I'm not up that early, they do repeats during the day) and all the hometown NFL broadcasts (which is great, if you're 3000 miles away from your hometown, like I am) - and if you have XM, they have many of the hometown baseball broadcasts. The sports selections are pretty good too, including ESPN Radio, NFL Radio, and (if you're in the right mood) Mad Dog Radio.
I was pretty much just listening to satellite (I have Sirius in my car and XM in my wife's car), but since they made all the programming changes, I've started moving back and forth between Sirius/XM and FM radio again.

i like my stiletto 2 alot. You can copy mp3s to it, as well as record hours of radio at a time. It's nice to record a 2 hour session before going to the gym, and skipping through the songs to what you like.

Love Howard and some of the other talk channels are good. They did drop channels I loved.

Music has gone downhill and the repeats on the talk shows kill me but it's well worth it.

Could not not handle as much driving as I do without it and I listen to Sirius from the minute I get up in the house.

The equipment sucks so get an extended warranty.

Sold. I am going to get it activated today...
I did the Ipod thing for a while however it was a pain to remember to take it out of car and into gym, then I would forget that I left it in gym bag and have to go back and get it etc...
Will give it a try as $13 a month seems ok..

Anybody know of any deals?

I have a friend who was banging a rep. from sirius a couple of years ago and he got both his cars activated for free, and to this day does not pay a penny.

Sounds like podcasts. And they are free.

Podcasts are great, but there's no comparison. Last I checked, Howard Stern isn't podcasting, so it depends what you're looking for.

Sounds just like podcasting to me?

Except with podcasting you don't have to listen when the broadcasters dictate you do.

Clearly there are differences.

Sirius costs money for the kit and the subscription.
Podcasts are free.

Sirius makes you listen when THEY want you to.
Podcasts you can listen to whenever you want.

Sirius has a show by Stern.
