It's really good, but both XM and Sirius have gone downhill since the merger - some good channels eliminated, and whoever is programming the music channels has gone with the (much smaller) Sirius playlists, probably for cost reasons. So the selection of music is smaller than it used to be (more repeats, I often hear many of the same songs every day when I'm in the car for an hour or so) and they've made some bizarre decisions on which jocks to keep, which dayparts to put them in, and so on.
Can't speak to the hip-hop and top-40 channels, but if you're older, the best time to listen is afternoon drive on the west coast, early evening on the east coast...Terry Motormouth Young on the 60s channel, J.J. Walker on the 70s channel, Al Hunter on the 80s channel, Richard Blade on 1st Wave (Classic Alternative), Jeff Foxx on Soul Town.
And of course Howard in the morning (although I'm not up that early, they do repeats during the day) and all the hometown NFL broadcasts (which is great, if you're 3000 miles away from your hometown, like I am) - and if you have XM, they have many of the hometown baseball broadcasts. The sports selections are pretty good too, including ESPN Radio, NFL Radio, and (if you're in the right mood) Mad Dog Radio.
I was pretty much just listening to satellite (I have Sirius in my car and XM in my wife's car), but since they made all the programming changes, I've started moving back and forth between Sirius/XM and FM radio again.
