Many like it chunky, however, i do not. I love it pureed and actually the viscosity of the salsa is a big part of it.

Chunky salsas simply do not merge flavors the way pureed salsa does.

When I make chunky salsa, I just use habanero, some radish, carrots and tomatoes and chop it up.

however, for the killer salsa roja, it must be pureed.

That salsa looks muy delicioso. I miss Mexican food from Los Angeles. We have Mexican restaurants here in Manila like Mexicali...but its not the same.

Wistful memories of Taco Llama and El Rincon Taurino still bring a tear to my eye

yes, as i said in my blog entry, I lived in LOs Angeles, socal too long to eat salsa with vinegar in it! Anything store bought it so gross, Pace Picante is garbage! There is not an Angelino aliv who wouldnt eat this whole bowl, it rocks.

I can only eat authentic stuff, and ive tried to match salsas to places Ive eaten in cali since.

I lived near so many burrito places that churned out great homemade salsa that i just picked up on it and since my wife grew up there, she just has it in her to make the killer stuff.

Great food comes from the soul man, and 1,000s of years of a cultures bloodline.

If I could get my habaneros direct from the Yucatan I would lol

That's not a typical Salsa but that looks AMAZING.

Looks like I could eat it as a soup or chili.

ty for compliment

regarding "typical" - Have you ever spent a long length of time living next to Mexicans in Los Angeles? I did, lol My neighbors didnt even speak English

Go there, pick a place to eat, then come tell me this looks like soup, its not watery at all, its nice and thick and super tasty this is as authentic as it gets homie, some of the ingredients are even from MEXICO

No its not chunky like "gringo salsa" but its as aunthentic as can be made outside of LA

Its the same style as so many places in Los Angeles, they give it to you in a little cup... and the recipe is based on how real Mexican ladies do it in SoCal lol my wifes sister lives with a Mexican family, and she makes salsa every day, we picked up a few things from her and bam, its perfect!

ps: (edit) I know you werent saying anything negative and dont take my post above as anything except explanation of the authenticity of the salsa,... i dont want to come across as negative.

salsa should never have vinegar in it, if it does, its horrible. this is not just my opinon, its why people make fun of Pace Picante salsa, its nothing but pickled/vinegar, and I wouldnt call it salsa.

store bought salsa makes me face pucker if i try to eat it, i simply cannot do it, its gross to me after you are used to eating the hand made stuff.

for those wondering about recipe:

each pepper, tomato etc is hand roasted over open fire

we use 4 different chilis: anaheims, dried chilis, jalepenos, and because i couldnt find habanero I used some generic "long hot peppers" not sure the name, normally it would be Habanero.

lots of garlic, you can see the green cilantro, onions, we also used different tomatoes than you can probably find in your area... they are called "Creole Tomatoes" they are locally grown to withstand the Louisiana Summer Heat, sooo good.

i honestly couldnt tell you everything we put in there, its just one of those things you do while you in the kitchen, we dont follow a recipe, we just make it!
