man... this thread is great! My ex just lost her job, her house, and now has had to have our son move back in with me till she can get on her feet again. He is 14 years old right now and just started high school and I am just about ready to pull my hair out with all the added responsibilities and crap I am dealing with now in addition to my "job". I give respect to mothers and the job they do raising kids.
I also agree with it not being a job however. A job pays, it has tangable goals to gauge your success, raising a kid is something that you do because you have to, not to make money. You can always quit a job if you don't like it. A kid is something that you can't quit and will cost your dearly yet enrich your live in ways you can never imagine. If you choose to have one, there is no getting laid off, there is no quitting and there is no end to your responsibility. Being a mom or a father is more than a job, its a lifestyle. You only have one chance to do it right so you better not fuck it up because if you do, you'll regret it for the rest of your's and your child's life. Unless you think that simply working and making money is the solution to all. You must be engaged in your childs development. Anyone that can say that they are a Mother or a Father is more than a man, more than a woman. Anyone can make a baby but the real task starts then. The rest of your life should be all about that baby, even after it turns 18, it should be about making that person better than you are so that he or she can in turn pass that on to their kids. There is no end to your responsibility and you have to be ever caring and ever sure that from conception of that kid to your death, you do all that is in your power to give that child, that person, that man, that woman, everything that you can possiblly give to make them a better person than you ever could be. FACT: Being a MOM is not a fulltime job!!!! this is totally a correct statment because if it was, she could quit. Dave G

So. More devil's advocate.
You're just a webmaster responsible for yourself.. sitting on your ass at home typing shit, coding shit, copying and pasting, and reading GFY and other messageboards for a living. You get an earning from it while sitting on your ass... A stay at home mom is 100% engaged in something at almost all hours of the day... She can't just take an hour and go read failblog and GFY while the kid colors on the wall with crayons or some shit.. So I assume you think your webmastering job is harder than taking care of a kid all day? Go get a degree and stand on your feet all day, 40 hours/week.. then experience being on call and getting called out at 2am in the morning... working til 4:30am.. and then punching in to your regular shift at 5am.. then come bitching. Some fucktard who sits on his ass all day for living.. really isn't one to be pointing fingers about job and no job.

I havn't read the full thread but I should post some 5 mins vids of my kids and you think its not full time.. last week my 1 son was home from daycare all week and I couldnt get any work done at all. kids need attention and they won't let you ignore them. and they are messy as fuck, toys everywhere! I been spending all my free time finishing the basement so I can hide the kids and toys down there.. for some reason thou I doubt that will happen.
I got a feeling this is just a fishing for sheep threads thou. |

I work a full time job and have raised 4 kids, and I can tell you without even a shadow of a doubt that the full time job is cake compared to raising kids. My husband helps me equally around the house, BOTH of us raised our kids, and he'll tell you it isn't easy. No one gives thought as to where those clean clothes she lays out for you everyday came from, where those hot meals came from that you sit down to every night, the clean house you sit in while you put your poor ole feet up and watch those football games while she runs you a bath........ the nights when you get your dick sucked like there's no tomorrow, and then to get up and cook you breakfast before she sends your ass off to work for a mere 8 hours while she starts the same shit all over again!! WHO DO YOU THINK DOES THAT??? NOW, having said that..... those moms that sit on the couch and eat bonbons while he works his ass off and then comes home and cooks his own dinner while she sits her fat ass on the couch... THOSE women are NOT full time moms, they're lazy bitches that should be taught how to BE a mom and a wife to begin with. Put her ass to pasture and go get a GOOD one..... and stop bitching about those of us that pitch in and actually RAISE those kids and suck your dicks...... wipe your asses and cook your food and make your socks are clean and your drawers are skidmark free in case you have a wreck on your way to work! rotfl THERE... how is that? I took you ALL out..... rotflmfao |

I'm sure you can do better than that. Why do we need to bring wealth into this, at least pick on someone in your own league. I'll let you park your trailer next to my guest pool house next time your in town.

LMAO, you must be kidding!
I have two little boys, almost 2 and 4, don't get me wrong I love them to death! It is a Full-Time job, starts off really early in the morning. Breakfast, brush teeth, outside to the park, then back for lunch and naps, then repeat with dinner an another outside outting. Kids shouldn't be kept in the house all day or a room to play. It's a ton of hard work. Baths, doctors appointments, nails, laundry, hair cuts, dishes ect... I'm lucky to have some live in help, since I work full time and have a big house to clean. Pfff.... |

Wow.. whomever thinks being a parent isn't a full time job has never taken care of a child full time. Hell they probably haven't taken care of a child for even an hour... it requires 100% full time attention. "Relentless" I believe is the word that best describes it... Maybe its better to wait until you have room to talk before you go blasting your mouth about other peoples lives.

Men who truly believe that raising kids is easy eventually have quite the rude awakening and many don't know how to cope. These men are at an elevated risk of abusing their family compared to fathers who knew what they were getting into.

That is the most untrue statement that I have ever read on gfy, but I'll chalk it up to ignorance as I'm sure you haven't had to raise children on your own. I have three children and two full time nannies. Live-in. Even having nannies I still have to make sure I spend x amount of time with my children, x amount of time which each child individually, and x amount of time that is purely devoted to each child's development. Driving them to football practice, chess matches, play-dates and sleepovers is enough to keep a driver employed full time. Again, the most ignorant/untrue statement that I have ever heard. You couldn't pay me enough to be a stay-at-home mom.

The only reason I would agree with saying that being a full time mom isnt a job is this
At a job you have set hours that you work At a job you get breaks and a lunch hour At a job you get days off every week At a job you get vacation days, sick days, holidays off. Being a mother is a labor of love. I have 2 kids and I have always worked, more often 2 jobs than 1. And no I dont want applause or a pat on the back for it. I chose to bring my kids in this world and I choose to work my ass off to give them what they need in this world. That said even if I could be a stay at home mom I dont think I could do it. Not even talking about the constant demands on your attention, the fact you cant get 5 minutes of peace to use the bathroom. Also think of the lack of adult human interaction. It does wear on you. And as much flack as I have taken for being a working mom I think that stay at home moms take alot more. They are stigmatized by working mothers and society as lazy and/or spoiled.

Raising children who are school age is not a full time job....although some people turn it into that.
I know a 7 year old who has a busier schedule than most CEO's....dancing class, cooking class, girl scouts, karate, piano, etc etc etc. It's pretty ridiculous IMO. However, kids who aren't yet school aged are a full time job to take care of. If you go to work and hire a nanny or take them to day care, taking care of your kids is a full time paying job for someone else. If you choose to stay home with them then it's a full time job for you....even more so because it's a 24/7 job. Yes, you're "supposed" to do it...DUH....that doesn't mean it's not still work.

BULLSHIT. I have three, and aside from the full time job I already have, they are another full time job on top of it. Anyone who says that having kids isn't work is either a lazy twat who doesn't take care of them or clean up their messy pigsties, or they're imaginary. Kids are a lot of work, no matter what anyone says. Have a few and try it for yourself :P

I am the same way, I have always held a job, and sometimes 2 myself. I went for about 18 months without a job to speak of and I literally had a nervous breakdown. NOT because of the kids or the work involved, but because of the lack of feeling like I was contributing financially to the house.... and that made me crazy. For that reason alone, I couldn't be a stay at home mom. PLUS, my work was always a sort of a getaway to get some air to breathe of my own. lol We are raising 4 kids... so it's not been easy even for a day. And it seems the older/bigger they get, the bigger their drama/issues get. lol When they were babies, it was the diapers, the feeding, the constantly entertaining them.. which I LOVED.... then they went to school and found out there were other kids in the world and they wanted to go do things with them....... then we became maids and taxi drivers to them... now that I have 2 out of the house, it's the constant worry whether they are going to be ok, if they are going to make the right decisions. Raising kids isn't JUST a physical thing, it's just as much of an emotional thing and sometimes that's a lot harder than the physical aspects of it. At least to me, I worry about everything that happens to them. And don't ANYONE get me wrong, I wouldn't change even a second of their lives or the time I have and get to spend with them.... they are MINE and I love every issue and drama they have, makes me know they are healthy...... ;) |
