I hate ebay

So I sold my Tag Heuer watch on ebay and overnighted it to the guy. Retails at $2399 and sold at $999. He sends me a scathing email saying it had too many scratches and wants a refund. Fucking buyers remorse on ebay is unreal. Paypal "always" finds in favor of the buyer so it's not worth fighting a refund. He's sending it back to me "hopefully" in the same condition. Had a laptop sale screwed on me as well due to a flake on the buyers end.

And for the record, wasn't trying to scam the guy. Watch was in excellent condition and for that price should've taken it and run.

I hate ebay... with a passion

i thought paypal doesnt handle disputes about the condition of an item and rather only deals with non receipt, but that might be back from my scamming days...ahhh i mean

joking of course but just hope the dude actually sends you back YOUR watch!

edit: joking about scamming days, but not about the non receipt thing

I hate using Ebay lately. More and more time wasting idiots on it.

Not being able to leave bad feedback as a seller is fucking stupid too...

What I came to notice about most ebayers is that they have these dreams:

First dream: Everyone who lists on ebay must be desperate, so making a 500 dollar offer on a $50,000 car is perfectly fine

Second Dream: If someone is selling a 20,000 dollar watch that costs 60,000 expect some wear and tear, usually stuff you would get if you owned the watch yourself, instead they ask a million question to the effect "does it have even a minor scratch..." and if so they dont want it, buyers should know that 99% of good deals on ebay either mean the product is not 100% perfect or your getting scammed.

Third Dream: They finally got you to agree that your car is only worth 50,000 because of a minor scratch under the hood, now they want to offer you cash plus a trade, ok thats not a problem, but here is the kicker they want you to pay 35,000 for their 25,000 car because it comes with some 5 dollar stereo system.

Forth dream: They dream that all sellers are idiots, for example, you list a item on ebay say a D80 camera for 900 bucks, then you get all those emails that read like this "I really like your camera but I can buy it locally for 500, if you can sell me your d80 for 750 we have a deal" I mean seriously if you can buy it locally for 500 why are you bothering me and wanting to pay me $750

The list goes on

Ebay decided a long time ago to be all about the buyer.

The seller is seen as the possible scammer and ebay has no idea some of the
shitty games that buyers play.

The worst is the "feedback hostage" game where
the seller fucks up and leaves positive feedback as soon as they get the payment
but then the buyer starts asking for this and that and holding out on positive feedback
until they get this and that.

If you sell something do not leave any feedback until you have gotten
positive feedback first.

I list EVERYTHING as "as is" condition with multiple photos.

I've had a few people try this, and not once has eBay/Paypal found in favor of the buyer.

This is wrong and wrong. As a VERY active eBayer, I can tell you that while they are trying to make a better experience for the buyers, they're doing so at the benefit of their sellers. Perhaps you might think this as someone on the outside, but those of us that use eBay regularly would disagree. Some of the new policies are a bit over the top, but nothing any honest seller will have issue with.

We have completed a few thousand transactions on eBay and have not had any issues.

My husband is the same, I hear him bitching all the time about what eBay has done now. I don't even GO to that place, it's too crazy for me.... lol

I WILL say though, my husband has had his eBay acct for god knows how long... 2-3 nights ago someone hacked his eBay acct and during the night had sold cars and lord knows what all, and before he had even gotten out of bed and noticed it, eBay was on it and trying to contact us about this. They told him they had seen strange activity and locked the account until they could reach him.

So, eBay earned some really huge kudos for him, as a seller and a buyer, that day.

He's had a few runins with buyers here and there... but somehow he manages to keep his cool with them. He'll come to me and say they asked him this or that and when I bitch about it, he's just all cool and pleasant about it..... I'd freak out on people if they asked me some of the things they ask him. lmao

Say all you want, I've had an ebay account since they first opened and I don't like
using it as much now. The fees for non-sold items is way out of line for
me trying to sell something that might move slow.
You have to list things for nothing or pay high fees when it doesn't sell.

I don't mind buying on ebay because basically it's like stealing sometimes with sellers
trying to avoid fees and getting stuck with only 1 bid.

yeah I have some stuff I wanted to list, I have done so for years off and on, but its been a while and with that policy now it keeps me from dealing with ebay.

I just got the run around from a buyer for $20 on another site and what a headache dealing with these people.

I'm just going to list things on a domain I own with a paypal button, and get my own traffic. I have lots of good transaction points on my paypal account. Ebay sucks ass for good traffic now anyways.

I used to eBay all the time, I have a rating close to 600 points.

Now, I really only use it for hard to find items or things like video games where you get them for less than half price.

I'm surprised that Paypal sided with the buyer in this case, usually they will only intervene if they got an item that didn't match (ie. a GameBoy instead of a PSP).. not a watch that isn't "exactly as expected" ..

It does suck how Ebay always sides with the buyer

I'm always very carful when it comes to buying stuff on Ebay, if they don't have 100 solid feedback, I'm cautious and don't buy anything too expensive.

I guess in this case, you get fucked as a seller. I've sold a few things before and luckily I never had that problem yet.

Like someone else said, always post a lot of pics when you sell, that's what I've always done, that way the person that's buying sees exactly what they're getting and I know for me, when I buy, the more of an item I see, the better.

I just tell them I don't accept refunds and to go pound sand. If you have a tracking number that says you delivered the item, paypal will NOT refund his money unless he can prove it was "significantly different than presented in the listing".. so You'd have had to send him a $10 swatch instead. Not that it had a few scratches.

what you should do is check what the selling price was for the same car your trying to sell in the past few weeks (not the asking but what people paid) very few cars get decent money

Buying things to resell on ebay was my first online venture, and I've gone back to it two other times when I had good sources for stuff, but after the most recent changes, I no longer use ebay or paypal. The site is a joke and they treat their sellers like unwanted cockroaches. It just doesn't make sense to pay their outrageous fees while they're advertising external websites competing with your products directly below the search results. I mean what the fuck are you paying the listing fees for, anyway?

thanks for the info. buyers remorse on his end and i posted a 7 day return period so guess it came back and bit me in the end. he's shipping it back to me. I'll repost it at $900 and in "as is" condition with "no refunds". It's a great bargain and only selling it because I need the funds.

Good info in the thread. ICQ me if interested as well. Dave

If you ever sell a watch again, use a scanner to get a clean sharp image of the watch's face.

ebay is such a waste lately. there is nothing cutting edge about it anymore. it's become more hassle than it's worth. i think an alternative will be born soon.

What's old is "new" again - many eBay members due to costs, scams, etc have gone back to buying / selling at flea markets.

Google has an open opportunity at the eBay market, but likely won't go after it ... and for good reason.

As Amazon and Yahoo both found out, running an "auction" site requires a lot advertising effort to build marketshare, and then on top of that doing fraud control and providing customer service ... all of which eats up much of the profit margin, and thus, in the U.S., they don't compete directly against eBay auctions.

i would like to see more specialty sites like Etsy.com come into the market. i think that anyone with any sense who was selling quality handmade goods on ebay has moved to etsy. the people who were making a killing on ebay selling vintage clothes will probably move at least part of their stock to etsy as well. unfortunately it doesn't cater to everyone selling used jewelry and electronics etc but it's still a nice site with way less hassle. i hope that other intentionally smaller, niche sites come to exist.

Good point - niche sites are booming, since eBay's "changes" and ever increasing listing restrictions.
