I have lots of friends who aren't in this industry. It's not really a positive thing to say, but NO ONE is doing well in this economy! Liquor stores and dollar stores are probably the only type of businesses that are thriving.

The insane amount of free porn out there certainly doesn't help one fucking bit either! The statement "FUCK TUBE SITES AND THE ASSHOLES THEY RODE IN ON!" certainly comes to mind....

when those mega sites aren't selling, that represents the fact that the vast majority of potential customers aren't buying anymore, because they are satisfied by what they are finding for free, and once they bust a nut they are happy
.... sure, there will always be some niches that are able to support a few people, but the adult industry as a whole can't survive that way, and the webcam/dating cash cow is only going to carry things so far
I can only give my opinion based on my own experience...but not that many potential customers want the mega-sites anymore. It's time has come and gone. So I would think that the fact that mega sites aren't selling doesn't represent any fact at all...except that they simply aren't providing what people want now.

Just like 10 years ago when the first wave of mega-sites were HUGE. Then they died a couple of years later when the "Bang Bus" wave crashed over them.

It didn't mean that the industry was in trouble. It just meant that the customers were no longer satisfied with the old product. In fact we all started making MORE money. But I did have my finger on the pulse of it just a tad better than some others back then because our TGP's were so damn big at the time. A lot of webmasters thought the industry had died because THEIR sales had dried up. And when I would see them at shows and tell them about the money I was making...they were shocked because they just didn't realize what was going on.

As for webcam/dating...that shit is already gone too. That was red hot about 3 years ago. Yeah, I still make good money on it. But not like it once was. It was inevitable that it would become over saturated. But it can still make you a nice living.

And yeah, niches can make the entire industry healthy. It has for years. Not saying to go with just one niche and get rich. lol But especially when the economy is hurting...you may find more sucess by targeting things and focusing your approach like an arrow.

Again...just google up some of the sites you promote. If it comes up tons and tons of torrents and tubes...then you're just wasting time. I still run galleries for every affiliate program out there. But it's just mostly "filler" for my TGP's. And as it was 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and 5 minutes ago...there are a handful of programs that will make you money.

10 years ago it was max cash, cyberotica, ars, and blacks on blondes. 8 years ago Ox Cash, Silver Cash, etc. 6 years ago it was Nasty Dollars. 5 years ago Streamray and AFF really started doing some crazy shit and started paying big money.

Or you could look at it from a niche standpoint: 1998, Amateurs were HUGE. None of them really were amateurs, but you put that word in your sales pitch and it was hot. 2000 was Teen, Teen, Teen, and more Teen. Then once the reality sites took off...It was Amateur again at first. That is until Milf Hunter came out and changed ALL the rules

Since then it's been niches of all sorts. You find yourself a niche, preferably one that YOU enjoy and understand, and then promote sites that know that niche inside and out and are NOT all over the torrents and tubes...and you WILL make sales. It's what the people want.

The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress. Without accepting the fact that everything changes, we cannot find perfect composure. But unfortunately, although it is true, it is difficult for us to accept it. Because we cannot accept the truth of transience, we suffer.

This is the time of change. If you dont change and adapt or become creative, business will be dead and then sooner or later you will be out of business...its important to see this and accept. Change with the times. I have been in this for 20 years and seen this happen before ( but not as bad ). I have seen many come and go. What makes people continue with success is always coming out with new ways to do business. Because people change and lifestyles change and so should you. It will be alright if you recognize and accept and go forward with new ideas.

I would add to that "personality sites" as well. We have always concentrated on the personality and covered a whole load of different areas and niches pretty much as they do on television I suppose and we have increased sales year on year since 1999.

Join pages are becoming too crazy with the fine print,

I really think sponsors should at least offer smaller payouts for trials and only one cross sale program plus the trial renewing.

My question is,

what ever happened to the sites that only go after the 3 day trial. I can remember most sites only having this or perhaps one extra x sale plus the 3 day trial renewal.

Clean, simple, and trustworthy is the way of the future.

The "adult industry" isn't going anywhere...Just the people inside of the industry will be moving around.....Maybe the time of the webmaster selling memberships to generic porn sites will become extinct....Maybe one day, the days of niche webmasters like myself or Robbie will come to an end...

But the one thing that WON'T go away is the "adult industry".....Porn, both generic and niche, will continue to be shot every day.

godsgirls has been doing fine in spite of the bad economy. i think the economy is not the only thing to blame. it's also generation Y and their internet savvy/prolific downloading of files. maybe more adult sites should do what we have done and build a community. people need more than just jack off material in order to be compelled to join a site now.

Sites that have unique touch to them should do better than ever nowadays.
The truth.

If we have to rely on forcing the customers to buy our stuff then is it their fault they don't want to?

We can all sit and wish for Utopia but it's not coming. We have to make the customer KING and treat him like we need him to stay buying and not like someone we can replace by sending more traffic.

You're lucky because you have a partner with a personality, beautiful, sexy and works hard. Most here think they can point a camera at any girl (so long as it's HD ) fill a site with 20 scenes shot on the cheap and the surfer will pay $30 a month for it.

There is SOOO much room between FREE and US$356,40 per year (=29,95 a month).
And that goes per niche, per business model, per media, per country, per payment method, etc.
I agree with you that the customer is KING these days. We need their money and they don't NEED our sites (seen from a individual point of view per site).

agree, it is scary that a whole generation coming up feels entitled to all the movies and pictures and music for free
