The government should just hire anyone wanting welfare and give them a job doing something. That way they get support, but are doing work at the same time. Like cleaning up the streets, sorting recycling material or whatever.

That way legit people needing support can get it, and the lazy fucks trying to the screw the system won't be able to avoid working.

Not all welfare is bad, but there is too much abuse and scammers taking advantage of the system.

Even if the wealthy were solely the ones responsible for the charities and museums, wouldn't you agree they're obligated to? Considering the tax breaks they get and the inordinate amount of money that they earn which they couldn't find ways to spend in a 100 years. Shame and guilt alone should tell them to.

And from what has come to light in the worldcom and enron scandals, we can argue that many wealthy people didn't even earn their wealth. In a sense they're the largest welfare recipients.

Government does more for parks, monuments, education, libraries, medical research, and tons of other public good than charities or tax-cuts for the rich ever have or will. There's tons of examples. I've only met a few millionaires in my life--but in general I'd say that their wealth came from a combination of work, luck, educational advantage, and they found a way to "get in front of the money" basically. That's not including the fortunes that comes from criminal shit or ripping off public resources--which is more common than a lot of people want to believe. There's this idea floated around that the wealthy are virtuous, beneficent and more trustworthy than big, bad government. I don't buy that at all.

I saw a number of times people commenting on 'tax breaks' for the rich. I don't know about everyone in my tax bracket but I know of quite a few that paid the same ~44% tax that I did. I also know of quite a few folks who earned significantly less than me that paid ~32% tax - Where is this advantage or break?

The US needs to go to a FLAT taxation system. If anything they penalize tax payers the more they make.

One of the main platforms of the Republican party, and talk radio, is that Republicans will protect you from poor people and immigrants. That means, to many people, that Republicans will protect them from minorities - non whites. In the Simon vs. Davis campaign, there have been far more dirty tricks by Simon than by Davis. If you don't believe that it's simply because you are blind. Bill Simon lied and tried to accuse Davis of a felony during several press conferences. It turned out that it was a lie, and Simon is now being sued for it. He even had to admit that he was lying, only he called it "a mistake". A jury found that Simon had committed fraud while running his company. Then a conservative appointed judge conveniently reversed the jury decision a few months before the election. Simon's television ads are full of lies and misinformation. If you are in California, and you even think about voting for anyone but Davis, you are a complete idiot. Simon is a criminal and a right wing religious fanatic loser who will do everything he can to fuck up California in the name of making money for his pals, and Jesus.

They have blacks so convinced that anyone with a conservative thought is a white devil that wants them shipped back to africa or something. Over 90% in the last election voted democrat. No other racial group votes as one sided as that.

The reason blacks vote so one sided is because they are an easily taken advantage of people. Its quite simple really. Why do race baitors like Jesse Jackson get so much play in the liberal dominated media. Because he convinces blacks that whitey keeps them down, and that leads to votes for democrats. Its a beautiful thing for the democrats to have such firm control over a group of people.

It is amusing to see the stupid things people think ... whether it's all conservatives are KKK members, or that the liberal-media-Democrats have the black vote only becasue they keep convincing them they are oppressed. So far in this thread I haven't read a single opinion that I couldn't have heard in 1970. I love the assumption that only blacks get welfare, however. I live in a county that is probably 98% whitebread, and it's got one of the highest percentages of people on some form of public assistance in the state. Out here, the candidates spend their advertising money on proving that they are more anti-big-city than the other guy. Yes ... both parties play the race card in different ways. That is about as much of a newsflash as "Truman beats Dewey."

I don't know about everyone in my tax bracket but I know of quite a few that paid the same ~44% tax that I did. I also know of quite a few folks who earned significantly less than me that paid ~32% tax - Where is this advantage or break? The US needs to go to a FLAT taxation system. If anything they penalize tax payers the more they make.
