Is Ben's still there on maisonneuve in Montreal?

That place had some baddass meat sandwiches as I recall.

I love to cook, and think I'm pretty good. One day I will go to culinary school for the hell of it. I obviously love to grill, but I'm not so bad in the kitchen either.

My passion is cooking ordinary dishes and making them taste and look gourmet. My kids love it, it's like a show every night. I get them to eat foods that no 3 or 8yo ever would.

My fav non grilled dish to cook is chicken marsala, it's easy and you can cook it 4-5 different ways.

Presentation is always important!

Try really GRILLING the cheese sandwich. Throw it on the grill next time you have it burning.

lol, that was my son's first bday party. There were plenty of little kids there.

I prefer to present my hot dogs to kids as octapus. Qtr them on the bottom half, poke eyes in the top then boil em and the legs curl up. Perfect for easy nights on top of Macaroni:-)

Put a little bit of BBQ sauce underneath the hot dog to make it look like octapus ink. hahaha

Sadly, Ben's closed about two years ago, and the building is due to be demolished. It was over-rated anyway due to its longevity.

Much better smoked meat sandwiches in Montreal can be found at Schwartz's on St-Laurent, Lester's on Bernard in Outremont, and Abie's on St-Jean in the West Island. All three have always been far superior.

I got mine today at a local place.

Love cooking, its one of my passions, and thank god because my girlfriend doesn't cook and hasn't for the entire 8 years I have been with her (much like most Aussie girls).

Make a great lasange, and a variety of italian spagetti dishes, also do some pretty cool asian dishes. Best though would have to be my prime eye filet steak ... after a year or so of trying to get it right its gotten to the point where I simply cant eat a steak at a restaraunt because its either overcooked, not tender enough or just badly cooked or a bad cut There are very few restaraunts which can cook a steak correctly, and its a shame I learned to cook the perfect steak because I used to love eating out and having a steak.

Perhaps one day when I move to the country.
Space is never an excuse. The equipment is pretty multi functional. Easy to store empty jars and rings when finished with product. So that just leaves getting the produce. That is what farmers markets or trips to farms are for. There is no way in hell I could grow everything I use on my small plot of land. Sure I grew my peppers this year. However I bought my strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes (didn't have enough, never do), fruits, and such all from farmers markets and or farms. I just do it in batches and when each is at peak of season. Takes me a day or two maximum per batch, one of those days is typically shopping for the produce, cleaning stuff, etc.

I just rather see a whole bunch of jars of assorted vegetables, fruits, pickles, and such in my pantry instead of a bunch of cans bought from the local supermarket. Same can be said of my dehydrated soup mixes, frozen food items, and such. Saves me a crap load of cash and I know damn well it is a lot healthier for me.

Cooking is one of my main passion's. Then I have several hobbies that help take my mind off of the stress from work, or I guess help refresh my mind. Like all of the bars of soap around my house I and the wife have made.

I can boil an egg or just grill the BBQ in the yard. That's about it.
My GF however has 500 cookbooks and loves to cook all kinds of food like; japanese, chinese, french, italian, spanish, etc.
I am NEVER leaving her again ;)

Space is a valid reason in may case. I simply do not have the room to store just about anything else in this flat without it bursting. It is as much about storing the equipment as it is the finished product.

On to produce..we don't have access to those kind of farmer markets in London. The only farmer markets that pop up around London are expensive places that sell trendy veggies to yuppies. Out in the more rural areas you get pick your own places and roadside stands and stuff and then it would make sense. I would have to buy my stuff from a supermarket and then there is little point when it comes to cost saving.

I love to explore new cuisines, I read up the recipes and come up with my own versions of everything and make them until I perfect them. Indian is my favorite, you use so many spices that you've never even heard of before and the combination of them can be amazing.

Being hispanic I also love to cook foods from different latin countries so yeah, I think I'm pretty bad ass myself. My carne asada is out of this world...

I'm an ok cook. Just basic meals like pasta with pesto, tomato sauce, olive oil & veggies. Sauted steaks, chick & fish with some Italian herbs/spices. All simple stuff with no more than 2-3 ingredients tops. I agree with thedoc that u don't need a lot of herbs/spices to make things tasty

I do make make my own pesto sauce in batches and freeze it. Oh and I just started making my own minestroni & chicken soup and freezing that too. Perfect for when I'm sick and don't have the energy to cook.

My mom makes her own batches of homemade tomato sauce and jars it all. Enough to last like 6 months. So she always gives me a few. Nothing is faster than a boiling some pasta for 10 minutes and throwing some fresh sauce over it. Faster than driving over to a local fast food place, lol.

I grew up with an Italian mother that cooked everything from scratch and to this day is still one of the best cooks I've ever met. I'm not just saying that cause she's my mom either. All her friends & family are good cooks too and they all agree she by far is the best. Even when visiting Italy I still find that her recipes beat others.

I've never been a big restaurant person. I go more for the atmosphere. Homemade meals just taste so much better to me.

I like his godzilla spray bottle.

I have Good Eats set to record on my DVR 2x a day.

I second this wholeheartedly. When I was single, cooking a badass dinner was an instant finger in the pussy.

I can make a pretty awesome seafood alfredo (easy i know), and broiled red snapper or blacktip shark with an herb crust.

It's funny, considering the relative simplicity of cooking most seafood dishes, how intense the psychological appeal of a SEAFOOD dinner is. I guess it's just our culture, but a badass chicken dinner or even (arguably) a steak dinner doesn't (imho) have the appeal to a woman of a badass seafood dinner with a cold glass of chardonnay.

So very true! Maybe because seafood is so easily overdone and requires a bit of timing? But make me salmon steaks or prawns and I'm yours

Gotta agree, but it's not always about the cooking... sometimes that platter of fine cheeses, meats and patés, grapes and that perfect bottle of wine will get you more action time since you're not in the kitchen on cooking time!

I will only eat a hot dog if they are Ballpark franks & bbq'd. And for anybody that knows me, I cut the ends off of the hot dog. I need to purchase some of these hot dog stands.
