How good of a cook are you?

I'm not too bad in the kitchen. I have a few signature dishes, but nothing really too complicated. A mean pot of chili, asparagus penne, and arguably the best grilled cheese sandwich in the western hemisphere. :1orglaugh

swoop 08-14-2008 01:06 PM

let's hear about the grilled cheese....

uno 08-14-2008 01:06 PM

I'm a miracle worker with anything involving meat.

Eriic 08-14-2008 01:08 PM

How do you grill cheese? Doesn't the pot get greasy????????
Is there a special spatual for picking up the melted cheese and moving it onto the bread.

Maybe if we put the cheese onto the bread before we cook it!

Sarah_Jayne 08-14-2008 01:15 PM

I am pretty darn good. Though, I am more of a good home cook type of cook then anything gourmet. Simply because that is the stuff I like to eat. I have a pretty good grilled cheese too.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-14-2008 01:17 PM

I make the most kick ass Top Ramen in the universe.

However I will post pics of the Filet Mignons later perhaps:)

GigoloShawn 08-14-2008 01:19 PM

I used to be decent - but so many years of bachleor-hood has made me lazy. Sometimes i make really awful stuff when experimenting.

However, chicken thighs (bones stripped), with teryaki sauce drizzled over it, and wrapped tight in aluminum foil at 250 for a few hours is quite nice over rice and steamed veges - cheap as hell, too.

Soooo... more than one person wants my special Canadian grilled cheese recipe huh? :1orglaugh

klaze 08-14-2008 01:25 PM

I'm good at cooking what I know how to cook.

But I don't consider myself a "good cook"

ADL Colin 08-14-2008 01:35 PM

I can dial the delivery places pretty fast

Evil Chris 08-14-2008 03:09 PM

I have a good buddy who does everything from scratch, and I mean everything. If he needs a bernaise sauce or a hollandaise sauce... he makes them from the base ingredients and NOT from a package.

That's what I call talent in the kitchen.

I have a lot of 'foodie' friends (waiting for Aftershock to find this thread) and they are the types that would never use a stock cube and insist in making their own stock for every single dish. Store bought pastry? They would have a fit!

Personally, life it too short and now and then it is fun to do things the long way just to know how it works.

After Shock Media 08-14-2008 03:41 PM

Haha Sarah, well I can more than boil water :)

Supz 08-14-2008 03:47 PM

i am pretty badass. a few bomb seafood dishes. some porkchops with mushroom rizzoto.

Food Network has gotten me laid more then once. I've found a lot of girls like having a nice dinner cooked for them

Spunky 08-14-2008 03:53 PM

I'm not great but I haven't had any complaints yet

Eriic 08-14-2008 04:01 PM

I want to open a new restaurant where the customers and employees can take baths in the Kitchen Sink.

Viva Burger King = Innovative!

papill0n 08-14-2008 04:26 PM

I can cook well mate. Curries are my specialty.

ItalianVixen 08-14-2008 04:29 PM

I am alright in the kitchen, I can make a great meatloaf, chili verde, chili colorado, scalloped potatoes (not in a box) . I love to bake and make cakes :-)

Sosa 08-14-2008 04:39 PM

Do tell.... :upsidedow

CDSmith 08-14-2008 09:13 PM

I cook like the wind. Chile, anything Italian, baked meatloaf, Canadian pork chops, pretty much anything baked, broiled, fried, boiled, grilled or barbecued. I don't usually make any fancy sauces from scratch but I do put together my own marinades.

And I make a killer grilled cheese, but prefer the reuben. :D

After Shock Media 08-14-2008 09:20 PM

I canned up some chili peppers today.

Vicky Vette 08-14-2008 09:22 PM

I never cooked a day in my life, until I moved to England temporarily, lol... the restaurants are soooo expensive, and the food soooo bad! Seriously,:) I decided to teach myself. I was quite shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I'm quite the Sara Lee - you know, "moist and easy" lol...

geedub 08-14-2008 09:26 PM

good enough to be fat

MediaManiac 08-15-2008 02:42 AM

seeandsee 08-15-2008 03:08 AM

I'm glad someone mentioned canning. I feel like it's becoming a lost art or something. It seems like the only people who consistenly do it are our grandmothers. My Mom makes incredible relish every year (among other things)...

Sarah_Jayne 08-15-2008 06:07 AM

Canning and jam making is becoming trendy again in foodie circles. Heck, Tefal have a brand new jam making machine you can buy. I would love to try canning but I live in a flat and just don't have the space or the produce. My Nana always had her garden growing stuff she would can for the winter. Perhaps one day when I move to the country.

Jens Van Assterdam 08-15-2008 06:11 AM

I have a cook at home, so what should i care about. When he is not in, ill order food. Problem solved. Cooking is just an unimportant time killer, nothing else. I dont even enjoy cooking when doing it.

Cook = My gay black gangsta.. no hired cook or something lol

My Mom lives in a 2 bedroom apt and yeah it gets a little crowded when she's canning, but she manages well. No garden... she just buys when she needs in bulk when they are in season (cukes, for example)...

tranza 08-15-2008 06:50 AM

I'm good! Cooking is nice!

DateDoc 08-15-2008 07:00 AM

I make most everything from scratch when cooking. Make my own stocks to be reduced down for sauces. I think when it comes to cooking people try to over do it by trying to use too many ingredients which complicates the flavor of the meal. The one rule you should use when cooking is that every ingredient should enhance the main ingredient and accentuate the flavor of the main ingredient.

For example, if you are going to cook a filet mignon it should be pan seared and finished in the oven. A filet does not have enough fat in it to be grilled. Choose ingredients that will enhance the flavor of the meat (Caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms and a nice demi-glace for the sauce). Don't rub it with over powering spices so that when you taste the meat all you taste are the spices.

That is because you do not like to cook. Cooking can be therapeutic. :thumbsup

cool1 08-15-2008 07:13 AM

I love to cook, and with 2 kids I can get to try out lots of different recipes.
lately I have been getting totally away from processed foods that are easy and fast to make.

bausch 08-15-2008 07:19 AM

I don't cook. I just eat.

I love cooking, it's one of my passions in life ;-)

Sid70 08-15-2008 07:27 AM

i can do basic shit, nothing special but ham and eggs + sandwiches, or chiken kotletas + potatos :)

Evil Chris 08-15-2008 07:30 AM

My aunt's mother used to make perogies from scratch and they were simply amazing...

Sarah_Jayne 08-15-2008 07:38 AM

I learned how to make perogies the other month. It is time consuming at first but they freeze well so are a good thing to do in batches.

PantieZ 08-15-2008 07:40 AM

I make a yummy Pizza :)

Magalie 08-15-2008 07:46 AM

Im a pretty good cook myself. I try to do everything from scratch too; sauces, marinades...etc

I make a delicious mushrooms Osso Bucco - it's my favorite dish without a doubt !:thumbsup
My Lamb Racks in a nut crust is also one of my specialty dishes ! :upsidedow

Spaghetti sauce is a basic - you have to know how to make a good real italian sauce.
I have one meat sauce recipe and another one with meatballs - simply delicious !!
When I do spaghetti sauces like that, I do a huge batch and freeze most of it.
It's easy and simple when you don't know what to eat one night.

Ok..im hungry now!

I'll eat both but I've had the corned beef one the most.

bausch 08-15-2008 08:07 AM

I can cook lamb rack too, its already cut and seasoned at Trader Joe's, all you have to do is put it in the oven and you dont have to season or put anything in it!

I am really lazy, I can't really cook anything, but I can make an edible salad tho. Just toss in pre-washed bagged lettuce, cut up a tomato, some cucumber, onions and bell pepper and spray some low calorie dressing on it.

I can also make a omelet, just fry some ham onions and tomatoes and mix with egg and sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.

My idea of spaghetti is boiling noodles and then dumping sauce from a jar, I don't even bother to heat the sauce, I don't care, I just dump it in the warm noodles, mix and eat. I don't have energy to cook the ground beef or make it from scratch. I am too lazy.

I can't make any sauces.

When I buy steak (which is rarely because it is very very unhealthy). I only know how to put olive oil in the pan and I just fry it and make sure not to burn it. I don't know all about
putting it in the oven and other stuff, no one taought me and it's too complicated. Add lots of a1 steak sauce, microwave a bag of frozen rice from Trader Joe's and I'm good to go.

I dont cook a lot. I like to order out.

And I avoid eating bbq even when other people cook it cause it causes cancer!! the burnt meants are carcinogenic and have been proven scientifically to cause cancer!
