The Marine puppy tossing video was real

Marine expelled, another punished over puppy video

By AUDREY McAVOY ? 1 hour ago

HONOLULU (AP) ? The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq.

The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March.

The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air.

"That's mean. That's mean, Motari," an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.

Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is "being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified "non-judicial punishment."

The Marine Corps didn't say what role Motari played in the clip.

The video was viewed tens of thousands of times before YouTube took it down because of a violation of the site's terms of use.

"The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated," Marine Corps Base Hawaii said in a news release. "The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud."

The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified "non-judicial" punishment.

Encarnacion is assigned to the Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

First Lt. Binford Strickland, a Marine Corps Base Hawaii spokesman, said the service may not reveal what roles the two men played in the video because that was part of the investigation. He said releasing such information would violate the Privacy Act.

Strickland declined to provide details about the disciplinary measures taken against the men for the same reason.

Being able to kill a puppy like that without remorse is a sign of antisocial behaviour.

It just disgusts me that an American did that. WTF?
I'm not sure if I like Marines. It was a Marine that got me fired from my job last year.

I'd like to see that. Good they expelled that prick.

Why they do such things? Remember the video when 2 marines were showing a bottle of water to many thirsty children that were running after the truck for just that bottle? They were laughing at the children's disgrace...
I guess they have too much free time or the Marine Corps are taking anyone in without a psychological examination first.

You people are nuts, it's a dog.. what about the guy stuck in a shit hole, being shot at, having friends die around him, all while be surrounded by more dogs than humans in one of the shittiest stink holes on earth?

It's not Antisocial. It's called Personality Disorder. It's where the dead you, takes over the live you, and you can't tell the difference. Where death, hate, a real killing machine lives in this disorder, a trained disorder by the Marines, a disorder they punish for, after they train you to do it in your sleep.

If you want to feel for the dog, feel good that he won't starve to death like the other million dogs in Iraq.

Your heart should be for the Marine, fighting for you, that has lost his light due to all the hate/death around him. A lost soul, how sad inside he must feel.

Oh wait, the dog.. that's right.

I thought the video was real but thought the dog was dead already.. I dont see how you would be able to throw a dog like that without it flopping around etc...

They didnt mention any more about it.. Perhaps they are just saying he was punished and getting rid of this story with a ending to send a message to all marines.. and get the ara off their nuts

I mean why is a puppy out in the middle of a desert all alone? Seems a bit far fetched

You have got to be kidding me. Do you also believe in space aliens hidden in area 51 and believe that the planes that hit the WTC on 9-11-01 were not the cause of the buildings collapse?

You still don't throw a puppy off a cliff and laugh about it on video. That's just sick. I hear more stories about Marines finding sick homeless dogs in Iraq and taking care of them, then returning home with them after their tour is done. No excuse for his actions at all.

Most are just stories... you can't bring a dog into this country, from another, that doesn't have records and shots. Just like I can't travel into Canada without my Dogs papers.

Military personal during war, bond with anything.. if they feel a tree cares about them for 1 micro second, that tree becomes a symbol of faith/love for them, when they have no other warmth around them. This is why brotherhood and religion is so strong for active Military. Since they can count on the brotherhood, the bond stays forever, and since they can't rely on God, they loose faith when they return home.

You don't have to try and justify his actions, you can only see a few seconds of what's going on and you try to thin slice what is going through a persons mind and/or reasoning when you aren't in and have never been in a related situation.

If you have been shot at and/or killed a few humans - your soul is dark inside. If you have lost all love for own self, if you already think you are dead... your mind is gone. These guys don't think about what they are doing - they just kill - exactly what they are trained to do.

If you want to hate, hate the Gov for producing mindless, heartless, killing machines that keep your freedom free.

He's been done a favor then, by being discharged. He's out of the death/killing zone. Back into the "normal" world where you are supposed to be kind to people and help people and animals that are abandoned or hurt.

man that's so much bullshit... I was in the Army. Cruelty to helpless animals or people isn't tolerated or encouraged in the military any more than it is anywhere else, and anyone who does this shit is a sociopath.

Just like in real life, in the military the people who do this kind of shit are usually the dumbest, most avoided, most disliked people in the unit, and the military, again like real life, is better off as a whole getting rid of thier stupid sadistic asses.

You watch too many goddam war movies, son...

You make a good point...these guys are trained to kill with no remorse. It's hard to know what that does to someone in a wartime situation.

I'm not saying what they did was OK it's a horrible thing, but we don't know the physical and mental strain these kids are under.

Iraq was not threatening anyone. Lets not forget that. They had a megolomaniac retard for a leader who loved hollywood movies and gassed the kurds before the first gulf war during Bush the First's reign. Yet we didnt think it was worth killing him for then, cant forget that little tidbit.

Our men and women are only in Iraq because the neo-cons are also megolomaniac retards who felt like it was a perfect opportunity to strike deals while giving someone else a bloody nose in exchange for 9/11. Too bad they fucked us all by ignoring the real war in afghanistan.

So as far as keeping us safe... it's pure shit. Iraq might have tried to do some more of it's ridiculous attempts to shoot at a plane in the no-fly zone, and they'd been doing that for years anyway. Are we saying that suddenly after someone completely, 100% unrelated to Iraq fucked us on 9/11 that our utter control over their country that we already had was so incompetent that we had to rain missles down on their heads? Well who's fault would that be anyway.

"Keeping us safe" is only the last failed attempt to justify this unjust war, hate to spill it in plain english, but oh well. Only a few more months.. thank god..

Oh and dont forget, we let him live and rule AFTER he'd fired missles into saudi arabia and israel! WHY did we not think it was ok to go kill the fucker then? Bah. Keeping us safe, lmfao. What a joke.

I could maybe muster up some sympathy for the guys, but the thing is, I am pretty sure that 99% of the guys over there are NOT throwing puppies off of cliffs. If you want to go the route that these guys have been so scarred by their experiences that it caused them to do this, then I can see where you are coming from, but I still think it means that they are at the bottom of the spectrum in terms of their mental health and ability to handle the pressures of war, and that alone probably means they shouldn't be over there. They obviously don't have the ability to make good, rational decisions at this point, evidenced by the fact that only complete idiots would throw a puppy off a cliff, FILM it and then allow it to make its way to the web.

Yes yes he's at war so anything he does is a OK. fuck that. you=retard. kill yourself now.

Thats pretty twisted. Theres no excuse for what he did, and he should pay the price, no matter the circumstances. I guess war really is hell.

I DID read you're trying to justify his actions.

"Your heart should be for the Marine" Oh the puppy murderer?

"If you want to feel for the dog, feel good that he won't starve to death like the other million dogs in Iraq."

So in order to save millions of kids in Iraq from starving maybe we should throw them off cliffs too.

Bottom of the spectrum of mental health? It's below bottom for the average combat troop.

All the proof you need is here:
2004: Army Suicide Rate in Combat Zones Elevated
2008: Soldier Suicides at Record Level

"From a suicide rate of 9.8 per 100,000 active-duty soldiers in 2001?the lowest rate on record?the Army reached an all-time high of 17.5 suicides per 100,000 active-duty soldiers in 2006."

I was active combat, my roommate, my staff sgt, and two more in my platoon killed themselves, on duty. My roommate, was a happy, girl fucking, loving life machine that couldn't take the pressure of killing another human, by mistake in a combat zone.

You people trying to rationalize this, just open your mind.. it's now 2008, it will get crazier, and crazier.. If you 'want' to stay in a combat zone, it says something.. think about it.

Don't judge them - without the dedicated crazy people you would owned by some other country several times over by now.

Ok fair enough, so a lot of the troops are doing very poorly. All the more reason to bring them home instead of making them stay over there and fight for no fucking reason. This shit fucking disgusts me.

I guess this same retarded argument applies to cops then, too?

Laying their lives on the line, protecting us from car stereo thieves, graffiti artists, and groups of young teenagers standing around in circles!

They should also be able to do whatever they want!

haha, bitch.. you are funny.

Your grandfather sounds like a fine man, you should try following in his foot steps. I did, my entire family history has been in the Military. My Grandfather served 32 years, 3 branches of the Military, 2 wars.

You know what the major difference is from then and today? Support.. Our troops don't have any, people like you put them down. Then when they come home, they are now forgotten about, ignored by the VA, denied VA assistance, and put through hell as if they were the bad guys.

And if you don't think they didn't do f'ed up shit, rape, murder, shoot anything that moves.. Well, you are a bit retarded then aren't ya.

Cops are not in forced combat situations and most cops never have to worry about ever being shot at. They get to come home, to a warm bed, hot meal, and pussy each night, followed by some late night tv and a monster hypocritical blunt.
