Most are just stories... you can't bring a dog into this country, from another, that doesn't have records and shots. Just like I can't travel into Canada without my Dogs papers.
Military personal during war, bond with anything.. if they feel a tree cares about them for 1 micro second, that tree becomes a symbol of faith/love for them, when they have no other warmth around them. This is why brotherhood and religion is so strong for active Military. Since they can count on the brotherhood, the bond stays forever, and since they can't rely on God, they loose faith when they return home.
You don't have to try and justify his actions, you can only see a few seconds of what's going on and you try to thin slice what is going through a persons mind and/or reasoning when you aren't in and have never been in a related situation.
If you have been shot at and/or killed a few humans - your soul is dark inside. If you have lost all love for own self, if you already think you are dead... your mind is gone. These guys don't think about what they are doing - they just kill - exactly what they are trained to do.
If you want to hate, hate the Gov for producing mindless, heartless, killing machines that keep your freedom free.
