Showing life will be difficult and just a theory yet still. All samples will be burnt in one of the five (if I recall) on board heaters. It could show carbons and stuff which could indicate life but no 100% definitive answers.

If it turns out to be water, this will breathe a much needed new life into NASA. Future mission possibilities become interesting again, and are endless if it means we can send humans there. It really is the best thing to happen to NASA since landing on the moon.

Yup it is gobbled, chewed, then spit out in a totally unrecognizable format and not spit into some alternate universe or something. It does not undo quantum physics and thus no more black hole information paradox.

Assuming climate issues, Earth issues, or intergalactic ones do not take us out. Right next to a full on nuke battle, the most likely culprit that will be our downfall are computers. However they are rising up the list more and more. As it stands we want to be able to take the joy stick out of soldiers hands as soon as possible. You're not the only one. I saw the spots and had to wonder if that was it. I don't know the properties of the sand/dirt there but it seemed to me that was more likely.

If there is ice directly below the surface (+/-5ft) ... I dunno. I am not a scientist by any means.
