Man Survives Woodchipper Suicide Attempt

A man, possibly 19-21 years in age in Roseville, Minnesota failed to immediately kill himself with a wood chipper Thursday afternoon. A tree repair service that was working in a public area saw a man jump head-first into their industrial-sized wood chipper.

The wood chipper was immediately turned off by the workers and 911 was called. Roseville police believe the incident to be a suicide attempt, stating the man did not leave a note or any indication of his intentions.

The man was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he remains in intensive care. Officials say he suffered severe, life-threatening injuries to his head and torso. It is believed a nearby hardware store may have caught the incident on video.

I feel bad for the guy. It amazes me how ignorant people are to suicide, and some of the stupid shit they say. Knowing people who have killed themselves, I honestly feel their pain. I can't imagine how a weak person could throw himself head first into a woodchipper can you? The amount of strength it takes to end yourself is tremendous, and it's surely the result of struggles and pain you can't even understand. If he tried to commit suicide this time, I can't imagine him finding the ability to go on if he is badly messed up from this, and it's likely he'll try again and likely succeed next time. Suicide is sad all around, especially for the individual who views it as their only way out. I hope the next life or afterlife holds better things for this guy, or if there is nothing, I hope death at least brings him the peace he desires.

They say "a man" but he was 19-21 only, not a real adult with real adult mentality. I feel pity for him.

i dont totally agree.
i do not believe this took "strength." to me, it appears to be a spur of the moment thing, a whim, so to speak where he had the idea and a moment later threw himself into the chipper.

i believe it was spontanious.
there was no note, no message.
he wasnt even crying i am sure.

If he really wanted to kill himself, there are a TON of alternatives that are 100% - a wood chipper isn't one of them. Strange that he decided on a whim to jump head first in there. What i'm really curious is what he was thinking as he was running... oh well.

Yeah I am sure everything in his life was fine, and never once thought or considered suicide. Than one day he goes hey, wouldn't that be a great way to die, even though everything is fine in my life I can't miss the opportunity and dived head first into it. Seriously, typically men first contemplate suicide about 12 months before they do the act and women around 18-24 months. I don't think choosing to terminate yourself is something you come up with on "on the spur of the moment".

however, diving head first into a woodchipper with no note or otherwise indication of suicide sure does not sound premeditated.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_note

A suicide note is a message left by someone who later attempts or commits suicide. It is estimated that 12-20% of suicides are accompanied by a note.[1] However, incidence rates may depend on ethnicity, method of suicide, and cultural differences and may reach rates as high as 50% in certain demographics.[2][3]

--

A lot of people don't see the point. They hate everyone and everything in their life, and just want to leave. I had one friend throw himself in front of a car about 5 years back, flew 50 meters in the air and died immediately. He left no note, but he was carrying a bible - something he didn't normally do.

It's not? really? Seriously every other wood chipper incident I have heard of in the news has been 100% fatal. This is the first time I've heard of someone actually even surviving long enough to get to the hospital. Most times the victim is in basically small pieces.
