Why do Democrats even vote?

The powers that be choose the candidate and rig the the primary/caucus vote by skewing it with all the super delegates that can choose whoever they want. Why not let the people choose the candidate they want?

Clinton has won 625 delegates but has been given 193 super delegates for a total of 818.

Obama has won 624 delegates but has been given 106 super delegates for a total of 730.

If it is for the people by the people the tally should be Clinton 625 vs Obama 624.

If you do not understand the process it is best to just sit on the sidelines and watch.

I understand the process just fine. The fairness of it is what I am questioning.

They are just a party. The Libertarian party presidential candidate is chosen at their convention. No caucuses or primaries.

they are talking about it on politico now - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8353.html

It is easy to imagine that Barack Obama could get to Denver with more pledged delegates than Hillary Clinton, but that she could get the nomination based on the votes of the superdelegates.

?And that,? a senior Obama aide told me Tuesday night, ?would create havoc.?

Like many things, the system makes sense in theory but over time becomes twisted and corrupted.

And if Florida and Michigan had their delegates count she'd have a hell of a lot more than 625 and this wouldn't even be an issue.

It's a political party they can make up their own rules. The problem with Americans is that most think they only have TWO choices and never even consider someone else even though the GOP and Dem nominees are complete shit most times.

There is a bit more to it than that as they were not allowed to campaign in FL - not sure about the rules in Michigan, but if that is the case there too it is hard to say Clinton would have one by such a margin had Obama been allowed to campaign. Could have been a lot closer.

Listen tool, it is obvious you are clueless when it comes to our political process, so why don't you just shut up, sit back and read?

I am a registered Democrat, so that is my party. He is a registered Republican so that is his party.
In English, us is appropriate when I am talking about Democrats. They or them would be appropriate if I was talking about Republicans.

You run to be the candidate for the party. You either win or you lose. You know that going in so yes that would be fair.

As has been said, these are Primaries... not general elections.

Think of the Primaries as unofficial polls... so that the powers that be in individual parties (namely Democrat, Republican, Green, etc.) can get a feel for who the people favor... the actual decision on who's representing the party isn't made until the Party conventions... and, even then - generalizing things a bit - the decision's made in a method prescribed by the party itself... generally speaking, if they wanted to (not that they would - for a variety of reasons), the individual Parties could scrap the results of the Primaries all-together and start from scratch at the convention - throw their support behind multiple candidates - or even decide they're not going to submit a candidate for the Presidency at all.

Personally, I think that we should go the way that George Washington would have preferred, and do without Political parties all together.

But then, that'd mean the average American would have to start being a lot more informed and well-read on political matters... so that's not likely to happen any time soon.
