If the Writers guild keeps on strike...

Porn movies are going to have better dialog.

We may have a future in prime time folks!

its a guild they are battling, not the writers in general..

im assuming anyway... people that go against them will be shunned or even firebombed...

I wonder how much of a bump or percentage they are even asking for?

Yes, the net is growing and becoming more and more important as far as money goes.

I hope their strike goes on for a long time. Then by the time they start airing new shows, maybe the average viewer will have figured out that the internet is the central hub for entertainment in their home and not the TV anymore.

well planning ahead is good, but i think thats what they didnt do...

thats why they are in their dilemma, the internet started profiting off of tv and what not a long time ago...

seems to me they didnt plan ahead, awhile ago...

lets hope they instill some future into their plan now, perhaps thats why its taking so long... im sure its not all about percentages and stand offs, im hoping its collaboration and what not is forming...

tv sucks right now, but thank god... im productive when my cooking shows arent on ;) late night is my only other wekaness...

The main reason is because the TV and movie industry are union driven. There are producer, director, actor, writer and crew member unions. The studios got a taste of what would happen this past week. they decided they were going to air the golden globe awards even if there was a picket line. Once the writers guild said they would picket the actors guild told it's members not to attend and they all agreed. With no nominees to get and no actors to present the awards there is no show. It was canceled and studio is missing out on millions in lost revenue from commercials.

If the studios just said fuck the writers and started taking scripts from unknowns they might get some great scripts, but without any name recognizable stars or directors they have nobody to draw people to the box office. Without the producers and crew they would have to make the movies with unknown actors, unknown and untested directors and producers and inexperienced crews. If the movies actually came out decently they would then have to market them on plot alone because they have name behind it. It might work for a few movies, but not very many and how many millions would the burn through in flops and failures trying?

So to do this they would have to break all the unions at once. It could be done but it would be messy and cost millions and millions of dollars.

Not planning ahead is part of why they are standing so strong right now. In their last contract they didn't realize how big DVD sales would be so they didn't negotiate for much of a royalty and it ended up costing them. they are not going to make the same mistake on the internet. It may never pan out make them much money, but they aren't taking any chances .The guy heading the negotiations for the union has said he will not be the guy that 10-15 years from now is known as the guy that gave away the internet to the studios.

TV is for the mongoloids too stupid to push a computer mouse. The Internet replaced TV long ago.

One of the main reasons it's taking so long is the studios want to show some level of force and determination. The Screen Actors Guild contracts are up this year as well and with 100,000+ members the studios have a lot more to loose than with the WGA. SAG will be bring up new media as well in their talks and will likely want a bigger percentage as well. The studios need to show they mean business when they talk to SAG reps.

Best Regards
