:mad Mainstream vs Adult. An Observation.

1. Mainstream has 100 times as many working for beer money that adult.

2. Mainstream 'webmasters' are willing to sell off their sites at ridiculously low prices. Clone, rename, and do it again for $25

3. Mainstream people, the vast majority, do not seem to have a fucking clue what a domain, or website are worth.

4. Few mainstream people work online as their full time job.

5. There are just as many retards asshats in mainstream, but the difference is their board rule with an iron fist.

6. A large chunk of mainstream hang on every word of shoebitch as if he is all knowing.

7. There are just as many ass eaters, and supposed online celebrities in mainstream as the Lars of adult.

8. Fraud, rips offs, scams are even more ridiculous, and frequent on mainstream. Yes, that is really sad.

9. People in mainstream do not seem to be able to know how to gauge traffic, SE index, or value of listings.

10. A lot of mainstream do not seem to have a fucking clue about domains, SEO, or how type in's work. Nor what is truly considered traffic, or what 'conversions' mean w/o shady tactics.

If you are in mainstream, what have YOU noticed?

Pleasurepays does have a point there. If what you know about the people in mainstream is from their boards, and those boards are like this one, then you're really not getting an accurate picture of how the "biz" actually works.

Shaving is very common and more disturbingly, ACCEPTED. I see tons of sponsors that will blatantly redirect your non-usa hits to someone else and say tough luck right to you.

Same for exits, any exit they pop generally goes unpaid to the affiliate.

Then you have sponsors that slap adsense on their homepages and you can bet your not getting a cut of that.

Generally speaking, I find mainstream marketing more shady in the techniques that affiliate programs do. Adult, it seems to be the affiliate that's doing shady techniques to get the sale.

Yupers all off the above and then some. Some of the stuff they come up with makes me wander off scratching my head in amazement at times.

That makes two of us.

I love how people who do not have, nor have ever had a pay, or membership site, claim to know what it's worth.

I thought adult was ridiculous with low balling, insulting offers. But it's nothing compared to mainstream. People with actual websites, some adsense sales, or some quality traffic selling their shit for $25.

Some domains that are excellent for type in's or awesome if they had a site attached selling for $5.

Ridiculous.

the demographics amaze me

more than 50% of mainstream so called webmasters are teenagers

they have no concept of the idea that the money they expect to live off of forever without having to get a real job actually has to come from somewhere

they don't realize that the way things are today might be completely different in a year or two

they have a sense of entitlement where they see no wrong in scamming there way to money (ie. "wtf? adsense banned me those assholes" etc...)

the third world countries seem to have even more of the above, sometimes I wonder if every second teenager that has the internet in some of these countries is a 'webmaster'

got the number from polls on the largest mainstream webmaster board (dp)

I think the number was higher than 50%, so I put 50% down to be conservative

Oh, so in order to be a mainstream webmaster you have to post on mainstream webmaster boards and participate in their polls?

Guess I have some posting to do.

FYI, most adult webmasters don't post here or anywhere else either.

4%

i know this is a terrible assumption of what mainstream is, but how be damned if i'm giving up the good markets that i'm working in so everyone can try to run into them.

and yes, what bare says is true true true. its even worse on the know it all level with a lot of these so called "experts"

i don't post on any mainstream boards, but i read several religiously.

my is your adult experience is tens times as valuable and you should not listen to any of these kooks who say they are a seo genius this or an AM Guru that. Mold your own path and fuck them all.

Blah blah blah.

The difference being, there are a helluva lot more mainstream products out there to sell. Providing clues on how to market is not likely to hurt you since the odds of the reader choosing the exact same product/program as you are pretty slim.

well, I believe those numbers are in the range of being a true estimation

that is how sampling works, you get an idea of an overall percentage even though you only sample in a small area (of course you are correct in the thought that the percentage could be inaccurate)

I went and looked up the polls to get exact numbers...

webmasters that responded to mainstream board poll:

18 and under - 33.14%
19 to 21 - 18.34%
22 to 25 - 21.3%
26 to 35 - 14.2%
36 and up - 7.1%

take it for what it's worth

ROTFLMAO!! Good Point!

Somewhere out there is a post on a mainstream board saying pretty much the same thing about adult webmasters.

....anyways, my post wasn't intended to be a discussion of exact statistics.... I just meant that there are alot of damn kids in mainstream

instead of saying 50% and getting challenged on the nitty gritty, I should have just said that it seems half of the people posting on mainstream boards are under 19

Mainstream has MANY more niches. There are people in the most obscure niches that you never heard of who are making a bank. Thing is, it's not easy to get in to one of these and the amount of misinformation out there is paramount, with some exceptions.

And it's kinda sad - even if you consider the gfy demographics, people in adult seem a lot smarter than their mainstream counterparts. Percentage of dumbasses there is staggering.

This had to be quoted for the insanely sick truth in the summation of fact.

To continue..

The ages really do show on mainstream. Either that, or they are some of the least intelligent, no money having people I've come across in the online business at times.

People selling off domains for $5. Decent designed sites for $25. Clone and resell them over and over for what?!!?!?? $5-10 profit?!?!??

People who can't recognize good SEO domains, type in or otherwise when it's right there in your google, or overture results. Idiots who can't understand a membership site, and how it's golden compared to some other niches.

I mean, I could go on, and on. But what I am getting at is the collective cluelesssness, and no money having know-it-alls.

I don't understand why you seem to be complaining about this. Why aren't you in there buying this shit up if they're giving it away?

Or tell me where they're selling this shit so cheap so I can buy some.

I've been doing that bud. Although I had gotten a little carried away and snapped up too much just because it was a good deal.

However on almost everything I bought up, I turned a profit simply on the turn around. Bought sites for $50/200/500 and a few months later sold them for 4+ times the value.

If you have some money, and time, you could easily do this alone. Between snapping up golden domains, and sites.

But my point was that few seem to know, or understand the true value of their properties.

Must be when he is drunk at shows.

He slips up on his show from time to time reinforcing he was a fat, tittie loving creep. But most of the time when I have heard his tails, he "started in the mobile industry. Borrowed everyone's credit cards, and learned adwords".

My first community (a niche gaming site) started 4 years ago and grew to 110+ members. The second (outdoor sites) was more of a fun project that grew, but I was never to too serious about tell now. It just broke the 50k member and 200k uniques a month so it's time to get serious.

1. Mainstream has 100 times as many working for beer money that adult.

True. Most have never made porn "type" money to get serious.

2. Mainstream 'webmasters' are willing to sell off their sites at ridiculously low prices. Clone, rename, and do it again for $25

I have seen many great potential sites, sites, and concepts abandoned.

3. Mainstream people, the vast majority, do not seem to have a fucking clue what a domain, or website are worth.

True. But then there are a small few who think they are the next facebook.

4. Few mainstream people work online as their full time job.

True, very true. They don't know how to make money.

5. There are just as many retards asshats in mainstream, but the difference is their board rule with an iron fist.

It is usually because they are just an average person in the real world and got lucky with a site.

6. A large chunk of mainstream hang on every word of shoebitch as if he is all knowing.

?????

7. There are just as many ass eaters, and supposed online celebrities in mainstream as the Lars of adult.

Most are self imposed.

8. Fraud, rips offs, scams are even more ridiculous, and frequent on mainstream. Yes, that is really sad.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Lot's of fools in mainstream.

9. People in mainstream do not seem to be able to know how to gauge traffic, SE index, or value of listings.

A majority can't even figure out how to use an admin panel let alone marketing. To be honest, many don't need the traffic or knowledge. I know a guy that owns a huge outdoor site and when I visiting I watched him (20x) type his domain name in Google to get to his site.

10. A lot of mainstream do not seem to have a fucking clue about domains, SEO, or how type in's work. Nor what is truly considered traffic, or what 'conversions' mean w/o shady tactics.

Yes. I have said this before many times on here and will say it again. If you make between $1000k-$5000k a month in porn you can make 10x that in a "niche" mainstream.

Good feedback and additions chum. Here's a thumbs up for ye.
