:stoned Drinking Water Per Day

Got a question for a peeps. I figure GFY is the perfect place to ask health related questions concerning H2O daily requirements intake and how to take care of your kitten.

My question is, "they" say you need to drink like 8-9 glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated and cleansed. My question is, I have a hard time drinking plain water, if I add Crystal Lite (sugarfree sweetener) to spring water, is that the same as drinking plain water?

I'm sure it's not as good for you as drinking plain water but yeah, you're getting your fluids.

Actually I should add that tea is different... it's a dirretic (sp?) so it actually makes you pee / not good to hydrate yourself with.

8-9 glasses of water = 2 Litres (1/2 gallon). It doesn't really matter what form that water is in. Coke counts, coffe counts, tea counts, juice counts, etc, etc.

Obviously, pure water is the best choice. The caffeine is the diuretic in tea / coffee /coke - it does NOT affect your ability to absorb liquids, that is - it will NOT dehydrate you (this is a myth). What it does do is sap your body of electrolytes (potassium, sodium) which changes the balance of intracellular vs intercellular water. So it creates thirst - but not dehydration (thirst is caused by an imbalance of electrolytes and/or blood sugar levels).

Simply adding the excess liquid from a caffeinated beverage will cause urination (chug 1 litre of water and see how much you pee.....), the diuretic will just change the chemical balance of the urine.

Water > Natural Juice (Cranberry rocks) > Crystal Light > Soda

Depending on how much you intake "booze" can be anywhere on that scale.

cool post

I always thought 8-9 cups of recommended daily water was in addition to your coffee/coke etc..

Also of note, drinking an excessive amount of liquids has the equally bad effect of stripping your body of electrolytes. Your heart needs potassium to beat. This is how "water poisoning" occurs - you drink too much water and your heart stops.

Not to mention the negative effects on your kidneys.

A normal person shouldn't really consume more than 2 litres of fluids in a day. Add fluid as your activity level increases (about 1 litre for every hour of strenuous activity).

So, if someone is drinking 3 litres of water, plus coffee, soda, tea, water in vegetables etc etc for maybe 4 - 5 litres of daily fluid consumption with no strenuous (ie sweat producing) activity.. you are in danger of causing more hard than good.

I only drink Pepsi, 2 L+ a day
I get some of my daily water from that and the rest from the food I eat.
Never had any problems due to not drinking plain water

When you first start drinking that much it is about a week of constant peeing but then it settles down. I swear the first 10 lbs I lost was all from running up and down the stairs for the bathroom. Now, I see water as my friend in the fat busting because the fat has to leave my body somehow and the more liquid that gets flushed out the more chances the fat has to hitch a ride.

You should aim for 2-3 litres of plain h2o per day in addition to everything else you drink.

Anything other than water does not count as water. Not to mention all of the sugar that soda/juice has.

there's nothing wrong with the taste of water. Actually it has no taste so I don't see how you can like it or dislike it. Just drink it you pussies.

oh hogwash.

Drink what you want as you want. Sure some beverages contain excess amounts of sugar and that may have its own issues. Then drinks like tea, coffee and other caffeine type beverages do pull out electrolytes and the like but really do not influence your body that much.

There is also no real hard fast rule on how much you need to drink. Most of the suggestions are not really based on any scientific facts. There are however a few thinks about beverages like even water that are a fact. Those being the colder the drink the more weight you will burn as your body will use energy to warm up. That to much calcium and caffeine can lead to kidney problems which are typically stones. That green teas are full of antioxidants, that a cup or two of coffee also seems to be healthy for your heart as is a glass of red wine per day. Then lastly distilled water which is pure water is no real better than regular water for you unless you live in a 3rd world country or have very very bad water. Well also if your a conspiracy theorist or fall into one of those groups who think small doses of fluoride make your children retarded. Other than that yes if you drink distilled water your body will find the trace elements and minerals elsewhere.

There really just is one hard fast rule. Drink plenty and drink often. If you actually get thirsty you have reached a level in your body that has passed its normal need for liquid. Aim for super clear piss and pissing every hour or so.

Try Penta Water. Drink two liters a day and within a week you will feel a difference in your body.

I still haven't seen proof that aspartame is bad for you. I only use Crystal Light other than that I use Splenda in my teas and coffees and I keep hearing the same thing about Splenda as we do aspartame.

aspartame is the most studied food additive in the history of the world. There is more published scientific research on aspartame than anything else.

There is absolute zero scientific evidence of aspartame being directly or indirectly responsible for any disease. Everything about MS, cancer, etc is simply mythology, mostly perpetuated by special-interest health-wackos / naturopaths trying to sell you vitamins. It;s the same people who tell you that coca-cola can dissolve a nail (lie) or that pouring coke on a pork chop makes worms come out (lie)..

Please post any credible scientific evidence of aspartame being the cause of any disease.........

Oh wait, you can't, there is none and I will debunk any internet link you post with science.

Strange line of conversation, I know, but I agree with the clear piss thing. My doctor that has been watching me while I do my weight loss thing gave me the guideline that if my pee was darker shades of yellow that I needed to drink more. If it was very pale yellow she said I was getting enough.

You are pretty much describing my daily intake of fluids, except that I have no soda or coffee, just approx. three litres of water and both cold and hot tea, plus a lot of very 'juicy' fruits like watermelon, grapes, and others plus green and other vegetables too. Plus I also take a bunch of vitamins and supplements including protein powder every day, and those are recommended to be followed by water too. But I also lift weights real intensely for an hour or do 30+ minutes of cardiovascular exercise almost every day- either one or the other. If I was just siting at the computer all day, two liters of fluids would more than suffice.

I do miss summer. Was so loving my watermellon blends. Just chunked up a whole bunch of melon, froze it. Then bitzed it in my blender. Sometimes I would add a small pinch of salt or a splash or sparkling water.

Very good and also full of antioxidants.
