US to be fined $100 billion for illegal ban on gambling

http://www.sys-con.com/read/435237.htm

This is just one of a few fronts that we in the online poker community are hoping will weaken the UIGEA...however we have such an arrogant administration who is hell bent on showing the rest of the world that we are above every law / rule of every organization we are charter members of...that hope is relatively small.

Well the jist of it is this...if the US does not comply...part of the penalties allows Antigua to violate copyright law and mass reproduce CD's and DVD's to recuperate costs...this has Hollywood and the music industry a little worried...so while the US Gub may not foot the bill...someone definitely will.

The problem is with their "solution," the Barney Frank bill...it won't get passed due to certain language problems in the bill.

In fact, the Poker Players Alliance is actively working to get Frank to drop this bill, and to support another due to this fact...but ego will most likely prevail.

Join the PPA and help get the UIGEA repealed.
https://pokerplayersalliance.org/index.php

plenty of info about antigua vs us on there as well.

It probably extends further than Antigua - Canada, the UK and a couple of other countries also supported the action re restrictive trading practices.

This crap has been going on for... around 6 years now. The World Trade Organization originally ruled in favor of Antigua years ago. The US government then claimed they had complied with the ruling. The WTO then ruled that this "compliance" was in effect, smart-assed and was not in compliance with the earlier ruling. The legal/remedy time has run out and there is still no compliance - so, next is penalties/sanction possibilities.

Doubt any nation will violate eg copyright law, but prob more inclined to adopt an "attitude with meaning and effect" until the US government does comply. It's ironic that the same government is whining to the WTO about China when it can't even comply with the treaty itself.

Didn't you guys know - here in America we are not free to do what we want with our money once we've paid tax on it.

Home of the free I think not.

Thank God there are still lots of Internet poker rooms we can play at:

I love my poker and think this law is retarded!

What is really funny to me is all those americans with their "live free or die" getting it up the ass and being told "you can't gamble", "you can't have an adult book store" and so on.

"live free or die" indeed.

I think George Carlin said it best regarding what freedoms Americans really do have... We are free to choose between paper or plastic.

Yet another reason not to pay taxes!

Why stop with overturning the internet ban? Why not continue on to take the monopoly of gambling away from state-funded and run lotteries and licensed casinos. A slot machine at every corner store, an OTB in every town and a numbers racket in every basement. Thats what I say.
