60 day cookie locked as in First aff gets the cookie and locks in and then if surfer go to a informational site that aff who sends him DOESNT get credit but the initial dude whose site he visited X days ago... potential for cookie stuffing and such here

OR

60 Day Unlocked meaning you get the cookie on your site then if he doesnt buy the cookie still stays undeer your ref. If he goes then buys you get credit , but if you have crap site and he doesnt buy and goes and does research and clicks link from SITE B then site b owner gets credit.

Thoughts?/

I'd go with the unlocked one - but it would have a timer of sorts (15-30 minutes).
If the surfer has not clicked any links going to the same site for up to 60 days the original sender gets credit.

BUT if affiliate A sends a surfer and he doesn't signup and within 15-30 minutes but he clicks another link and the surfer is compelled to signup after seeing Affiliate B's pitch, then the sale should go to Affiliate B. If the surfer signs up within the '15-30 minute window' then Affiliate A gets the sale - regardless of the second referrer.

It prevents top ad buyers from getting ALL the sales despite their pitch sucking. It evens out & empowers others to buy spots. It also avoids giving all sales to the site owner selling spots (if he should also be promoting the same sponsor above you with a blaring ad)

That's my PERSONAL opinion though.

This has been discussed over and over again.. especially when it came up in relationship to Fleshlight... Unlocked.. BUT.. You need to "lock" it for a couple minutes after it's set so it can't get overwritten by some nefarious means... That's what topbucks does for example. I "think" topbucks locks it for the first 5 minutes but can't remember the exact time frame for sure.. after that it's "unlocked" for some period of time.

Just set the refcode from where the traffic came from at the point of referral click. It's not like it's going to help "clicks to join page" or "clicks to join" ratios.

UNLESS, the fucker comes back via type-in; then I'd try and keep the aff who originally sent him.

But basically, if you have a surfer who comes to your site from one aff, clicks out and way to the abyss and somehow comes back from another link, fuck that original affiliate. If he's hitting the back button without clicking another affiliate link, no overriding cookie should have been set.

or am i missing something?

Don't know WTF you're talking about.. You say fuck cookies and then you say to set them... huh? Surfers always come back if a site interests them so affiliates need a cookie to still get credit for that sale... More so with physical goods.

The other thing I'd REALLY like to see is the affiliate code tracked in EVERY damn link/page just to give me more of a "trust" feeling. I really hate all these sites that use NATs or custom shit and they conviently leave the affiliate id off some links. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they couldn't even go that little extra to build confidence in them that they're not trying to cheat you on some level.

Tranza - here's my opinion and as a submitter you'll see the issues with a locked cookie.
Basically - if you buy traffic from any broker and you are NOT the first guy showing an ad to the surfer for the said 30 days - basically, you can buy all the traffic you want to send to that sponsor, but unless you are buying PRIME traffic - meaning SE stuff only (and even there you'd have to be number one ad on a fresh computer) - you won't be making sales.

Same thing goes if you're trading traffic - if that surfer isn't coming from your site - that traffic is basically of no value to you with 'that' sponsor. Now if all sponsors did that - then I'd say that most people selling traffic/listings would be out of biz because the cost of doing business from the affiliate standpoint would be too expensive with a VERY VERY low probability of return

(your CPA would be too high for you to WANT to promote the sponsor) & you wouldn't have enough cash flow to buy the traffic from those sources.

**although if you're a fantastic SEO and can be first in the keywords without any ad buyers - you'd be making a mint.

IMO, locked forever... If you refer someone, you're always the "original" referer.

If you send someone to a restaurant and they just have water, then they go back again and have dinner two days later, they still found out about it from you!

Fuck that... You could have put a crappy banner (or an hidden iframe) on the site and the guy clicks thru and goes away but then they hit my site and I actually make a real effort to sell them the product.. The last person to actually convince the person to take out their credit card is the one that should get the sale.
