They got nothing passed. I'm not sure how that messed up anything. Republicans were the ones that wanted to keep the status quo which has brought us to where we are today.

He sounds a lot like our current President. Throw in the fact he's a lobbyist and basically we'd have another 8 years of Exxon and Halliburton running the show.

Seems to me that the only two people with a half a brain posting in this thread is Baddog and Vendzilla. Clearly they have been more engaged in what's going on in this country than the rest that are just belching up the last sound bite they can remember from CNN or wherever.

Suggest rereading their posts as they make valid points.

Carry on.

The answer is pretty simple to the original problem - we need a draft right now - guarantee that war will be over in hours

Worth reading:

http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Fred_Thompson.htm
http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Hillary_Clinton.htm

This would be the closest race IMO. You can check out the others at that website.

The biggest problem I have with bush is that he's mainly funded by the church, Thompson is considered a moderate, last moderate we had was Ronny! Most feel he is a federalist as well, which means more power to the state and less government control

They didn't get anything passed, but during that time, I was paying for medical insurance and that's when it started going up

How much thought have you given to that idea? Care to explain your reasoning?

All 3 of the above want to enact laws to restrict & strip your constitutional rights.

Voting for Bloomberg is pretty much like asking for another Hitler
I do not follow US Politics that much but why would each of them be bad?...Not suggesting you are wrong just curious of your opinions on the issue

The oversight bureaucracy became larger. Ask your doctor. That governemt oversight costs $$$. Actually a number of programs were approved in the time frame. Would have to do the research to give you an outline even. Start with HIPAA for one though.

Baddog and I are close to the same age and remember the fuck ups of past presidents, we've been paying taxes longer than a lot of you have been alive

Quite a bit actually - instituting a draft would accomplish two things.
First it would replenish the military and boost the economy (remember that all those guard and reservists have legal rights saving their jobs at home) - something sorely needed if we believe what the president is proposing in a long term view of operations in the middle east - you can only rotate and extend so much
Second it would drive the dissapproval of the war from its current 60 % or so up to around 85 %, causing the "swing" republicans that really want to have a chance to win next season to finally go beyond the breaking point and stop their holding out - while I understand this will happen anyway after the primaries, this would certainly speed things up and save soldiers llives in the long run

A third side benefit is that it would give us enough people at home to respond to natural disasters and cope with anything else that might happen as well as allow the pentagon to shed the private contracts it has supplementing the military with those extra 105,000 highly paid private soldiers - saving the taxpayer a huge amount on their defense bill

I must had read this wrong. Are you actually trying to say the Reagan was a moderate? Reagan in the poster boy for the conservative movement. What about that nice little war on porn Ronny and his buddy Ed Meese waged? That's not very moderate. Thompson as a moderate? I disagree. Look at his record. He is anti-abortion, pro gun, pro big business, anti-worker, pro-drilling for oil and so on. He may be more moderate than many, but he is not that much of a moderate since he seems to pretty much vote right along the conservative party line. His recruitment into this race was spearheaded by the religious right. Why? They don't like the others for various reasons and they wanted a God based candidate. Thompson has proven himself to someone that will do as you ask as long as you pay him, why would he be any different as president?

I'm not saying he is a terrible candidate. There are worse out there, but I think by saying he and Reagan are moderates you are a little off the mark.

if it wasnt clintons presidency most you would be working at starbucks or the local filling station. You have very short memories during your buddy reagan it cost adam & eve over a million dollars fighting the government. If fred becomes president which I doubt will happen too much shit in his past, his wife wants to make going after porn job one. Hope you got something else to do for a living. Also clinton had nothing to do with your insurance going up. Im 43 so I remember also.
