Instead the police overreacted, and then used unnecessary force on him (over 80 people have been killed as a result of tasers being used on them).

If the kid had died, what would you say then?

BTW Sagi, did you know that AFF has affiliates that are using stolen content, and AFF has ads on sites with stolen content and CP/CP terms on them?

Perhaps the situation could have been handled differently. Hindsight is 20/20. At the time he was resisting arrest, he had already giving security trouble by breaking in, he pushed someone so he could have the mic and but must importantly he was disrupting. You also have to remember that in Florida it's pretty easy to get a concealed weapon license so I don't blame them for not wanting to fuck around.

Don't Taser me Bro! What a fag. He was screaming like a punk too, hope his boyfriend didn't see that. Might change the dynamic of their relationship. It was a setup anyways.

Open public discussion is one thing, but that doesn't give a person the right to not follow the same rules as everyone else.

I've noted that several times in this thread, people have suggested that Andrew Meyer (the student whom was tasered) had eluded some sort of security checkpoint to enter the auditorium.

I have read a half-dozen accounts of the incident, viewed a handful of videos, heard some news reports, and most importantly read the complete police report, and I have not seen a mention of this. I would think that it would have appeared in the police report if it actually happened.

I happen to agree with you, that if this were the case, then he should have never even gotten to the microphone stand in the first place.

Does anyone know of a firsthand news account that states he eluded security to enter the auditorium?

I asked my nephew about security and if the guy had barged in. My nephew said he himself was never searched and as far as he knew there was no security check or pat down. He said he saw Meyer standing in line to go inside and thinks he was sitting in the audience at the time he decided to go to the mic.

Again, my nephew was on the left hand mic asking the last question as it was announced by the organizer and at that time Meyer got up and went over to the right hand mic that had been closed off and went on his rant about how he should be able to ask his question. They decide to let him ask a question even though he was out of line and then he proceded to go on his mission which is when all these video clips start.

At no time did he shove anyone away from the mic so he could speak.

Thanks for setting that straight.

That's kind of what I suspected...

Amazing how the security breach and shoving of a student rumor was started and then repeated over and over again as justification for the police action, when these things never even happened.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what question your nephew was planning to ask?

I think the security breach rumor was brought up at the beginning of this thread as someone posted a facebook quote that mentioned it. I'm guilty of assuming that's what happened as well untill I heard first hand from my Nephew what really happened.

Funny you should ask about my Nephew's question because that's what he's most upset about. He went to see kerry because it was free and he had some free time. He said he hadn't planned on asking a question he was there just to listen and observe.

As the Q & A went along he decided he would get up and ask Kerry something. He said most of the students were Kerry supporters and generally kissing his ass and he said he wanted to ask Kerry something tough and more direct. As a proud Uncle I'd like to point out that my Nephew was Valiedictorian in High School and is attending UF on a full scholarship and is studying molecular biology with hopes of becoming a doctor.

So with a lot of thought he came up with a question about troop withdrawl in Iraq and his intentions were to get a straight answer from Kerry. What he was upset about was that he phrased the question is a way that allowed Kerry to side step the question and give an answer that was barely related to what he was trying to ask. He was upset at himself for allowing Kerry too much room to answer.

As I said before my Nephew was asking the last question when the the guy interrupted and after the guy was taken away Kerry very graciously returned to my Nephew and answered his question before ending the session.
