SEO Gurus: About IP Addresses...

This is a bit difficult to explain, so please bare with me.

If I have 10 websites, 2 on each IP address and I link them together in this manner: 2 sites on IP#1 link to 2 sites on IP#2 and so on, does it matter whether the IP addresses are on seperate C classes? If not, would it still not matter if I did this with more sites (say 50-60) or is there a sort of unspoken maximum before SE's get suspicious?

Of course, I wouldn't do it in this exact manner - it'd be much more intricate than IP1 linking to IP2, which links to IP3 and so on...

Will I be okay as long as I have seperate (same C class) IPs linking to each other or do they need to be on seperate C classes, as well as seperate IPs? Also, what is the maximum number of sites you would stick on one IP?

Thanks in advance.

If they are on the same Class C the SE's will treat it like an internal link.

Wow, that was fast. Thanks, baddog. You or anyone else have any input regarding max number of sites per IP?

I run 20+ sites from on IP on my dedicated server, Link them all together, And get great results in the SERPs. Everyone always said its bad to do so, But I have never seen any negative effects from doing so..

Well, My more established ones are all PR4. Pretty much anything I link on them eventually comes PR3-PR4. As far as my recent projects I haven't seen a PR change yet.

How long have you been doing this, st0ned? I've heard it can take time for the SE's to realize it, and then penalize sites for doing this. Don't get me wrong - I hope they don't penalize you...I'm just saying...

Seems like most disagree with baddog...hmm.

He's an idiot who couldn't find his ass with both hands. Notice he's selling "SEO" services which would account for him making such idiotic claims.

Are they on seperate IPs (just same C class?) Do you link them together?

Appreciate the 'testimonial'.

From what I've heard - being on 1 class C is one of many factors that search engine bots may use to decide you're spamming them - but it shouldn't effect your PR.

You should only get links from sites on other class A. It limits you to a maximum of 254 links, and some of them are pretty hard to get, but it is like collecting rare hockey cards.

As long as your links are relevant and you're not just building a linkfarm, you don't have a whole lot to worry about. Of course hosting in a known bad neighborhood, as most of the "SEO" hosting ranges eventually become, is worse than a dozen linkfarms on the same IP.

(Not saying they necessarily are... but it's not within your control and they're being marketed as a way to dupe the SEs. Not so bright.)

as long as you have other random class c's linking to those sites on the same class-c its fine. so in other words, get lots of links from everywhere into each of the sites.

Avoid duplicated content within one domain, don't link to banned/non existant sites and don't make a spam link farm, which means you'll be fine with one shared IP.

If they are on the same IP, whether on a virtual or dedicated hosting plan, I believe there's at least some risk of being penalized. Some say you won't be, but all I know is that of all the possible setups you could have with seperate IPs, C classes, and what not - that is the riskiest method of distributing PR.
