The good old days - I said I would never come back, porn is addictive

I was brought up on a naval base. The internet was designed as a military tool. We had email in my house in 1979. As a kid I would mess around on the Compuserve forums. I still view Compuserve as the greatest ever internet company. They are the only ones that really created a community and created technology. The gif was invented there. I love Compuserve as they truely respected the internet community and open source.

I remember when guys like Ron Levi, Lars, I think Raffic from WWC and a few others used to discuss how they could get premium rate line revenue from the internet. You have to understand at this time there was no members sites.

Then the most genius thing ever happened. Amateur Hardcore and they would pay you per click to send them traffic. OK there were no real TGPs. I use to put 5 pictures on a page then post them on the news groups. Each one I did would give me 2k of clicks at 5 cents per click. Shit I was making $2k per day for nothing thanks to Amateur Hardcore, two weeks later came Cyber Erotica, I signed up straight away. This was the easiest money ever. Walk to the newsagent, buy a porn mag, scan a few images in, create html page, link it to your ref code, upload it to your webspace which was 15 mg in size then post to all the news groups.

Then just watch the clicks come through. At this time if you had 20 affiliates you were a big boy. I got my first cheque which was on the first Amateur Hardcore pay roll and then I got one two weeks later from Ron Levi. I was well over $4k up. I had never made fuck all from the preimum rate numbers posting them on galleries but this member based system was doing really well.

In 1998 I set up a pay site using DMR 2000 as the billing company, everyone was using them. My favourite site, even to this day, called itsreal.com using them. Itsreal.com was the best live feed going and the most hacked into. I remember just before going to a meeting and thinking to myself "I will bang one off at Itsreal.com then go" I logged in on a hacked password with my real name. I saw in the chat room a guy saying "Hey what are you doing here you are supposed to be coming to my office". This is how bad itsreal.com was hacked into the guy I was supposed to be meeting was getting a free show as well.

Anyway back in 1998 it was really easy to do sign ups, all your tgps would accept galleries on Geocites, Nettaxi etc, so no bandwidth for the promotion and the convertion ratios were amazing. Some time in 1998 TCG happened, actually maybe 1999. I had met up with Joe E with a guy from the UK called Lyndsey Honey who shoots as Ben Dover. They set up a site called BritishBombShells.com Anyway John Bennett comes along and fucks it all up. Joe E and John Bennett launch TCG paying 20 cents per click. Everyone at this stage is doing 5 cents per click. However in the small print for TCG is that if your convertion ratios drop lower than a certain amount you only get .20 cents per click. We got stung by this the first month, basically 2 days before pay day you would have massive amounts of charge backs and a huge traffic burst. So month two we put all the links into the Gossamer Threads Links List (Great program - you ever want to make money for nothing then use it). The moment the ratios are going to shit with TCG and we are about to have our payout changed from 20 cents per click to .20 we pull the links. With no traffic to them our ratio cant change, they paid us then threw us off the program for life. I have to say Joe E was the only good guy at TCG. John Bennett fucked him. Why do you think John Bennett has to live in a hotel in Arizona (Gainey Ranch - Scottsdale) and Joe E is still around.

Anyway you had the guys running the programs and the big guys sending the traffic. It is the 90/10 rule - 90% of your payouts to affiliates go to the top ten affiliates.

It was just so easy. I remember when Vivid launched and I spoke with David S and he told me I was the 3rd biggest affiliate for Vivid, shit the 3rd? I thought I was number one, I was sending on a bad day 500 sign ups.

Seth W was doing his usuall of doing mass amounts of signs ups and not paying anyone for traffic. Jstyles was the man for content and heading up one of Seths sites. Gary K was crying about sex.com. SE Guru managed to show how good he was on search engines by getting 500 peoples domains from Webmaster Overdrive banned on Yahoo.

DRM 2000 went down. I lost $500k in rebills and money owed. I paid the affiliates $250k and felt gutted as I knew it would be really hard for them to change their links as most people at this time were just setting up sites on a free host linking in then forgetting about the site. I am pretty sure I helped most of them out though.

Then came dialers, the biggest scum base software ever. Dialers could have been the greastest thing ever but everyone just wanted to rob with them. I made fuck all with dialers as I just cant steal from someone. People wonder why the dialer market now is dead. I can tell you why. The things installed themselves everywhere on a persons pc and robbed them. Dialers could have been the greatest thing ever if they had been fair. Say they were charged at a reasonable rate and people could have easily installed them and removed them they would be the biggest ever money erner, but no everyone had to rob. Hence their death.

Anyway I didnt give a shit, I was sending traffic to Vivid, the General, Scott PC and MaxCash. The General to this day is the greatest class act in porn ever. Girls would get $2k just for an exclusive solo set for him. The biggest ever wire I got from him was for $500k and that is my biggest ever porn payment. He spent 3 years in porn and someone told me in those 3 years he made $300 million. I believe it.

When the General stopped, Scott PB got arrested, David S left Vivid I just couldnt be bothered anymore.

I had well over $20m banked and a great house. Well two houses actually. My Ibiza villa is excellent in the summer.

The thing is, I still reckon there is big money in porn. The sign ups are still there. I have been playing around for the last year or so and I can still generate numbers like I used to.

The main problem is that no one is helping each other any more. You used to have the YNOT newbie area, Net Pond, Webmaster Over Drive and Tdavid virtually building everyones sites.

We need solidarity again. We need to help newbies. We need to stand together as one. We dont need to run people down because they ask a question we need to answer that question and help them.

Post count means shit, the ability to learn, listen and try means everything.

----------- After Notes --------------

I wish I could have the good old days back so I could NOT do the mistakes that I did. And you're right about people not helping each other. Sure, there are some that help out in certain ways, but nothing like it used to be that's for sure.

I spent a lot of time trying to stop you guys from scanning my pictures for free.

Most of the guys doing it did not know how else to get content. If only I had seen the real reason people were scanning images and sold to them. Too late now.

Premium Line revenue from the internet was when we were posting premium rate numbers to web pages or newsgroups. Members sites didnt exist.

also, I totally agree with the whole "Post count means shit, the ability to learn, listen and try means everything."

Of course, there are still MANY people that think post count means someone is successful or not successful. Personally, if you have 40 50 60K plus posts on any board than you're wasting time. Instead of trying to up your post count you could have been making money being more productive.

There's still a couple small boards where newbies can learn some things.. but not this one or JBM etc. On one really small board I've written a couple post articles and answer newbie questions as well. ADX isn't too bad sometimes for helping each other out.

Haha, that was a really cool post. I enjoyed it immensely. I suppose that a good way to understand how to successfully operate as an adult webmaster today would be hindsight. Looking back and seeing how everything evolved to this point could yield many, many insights.

As a newcomer, I'd love to hear more about about this.

What was it like being a friend of John Gotti?

You know how it was if you went to a restaurant with John? He'd sit down and say, "You know that person over there, second from the window by the bar, in the yellow? I think we met him at so-and-so's wedding." I'd look, and sure enough it was the person. Very perceptive and observant. The modus operandi of John and his lifestyle, that's dead and gone. There's no honor, no anything anymore. The rest are just charlatans and impostors, killers and cowards and low-life squatters.

-- Bruce Cutler, Legendary lawyer for Phil Spector and John Gotti.

----------- After Notes --------------
Thank you for reading that, if you did, basic cliff notes, we used to make a shit load of money then taking the piss out of newbies and the lack of solidarity fucked it up. We need to stand together as one.

sniffle *tears to the eyes* the good ol days, I sure wasn't around then, but it sounds grand!

Quick history about beeing a porn affiliate.
Good memories.

About the fact that nobody helps anyone anymore... maybe it's because this business has became more competitive or that it's killing itself with tgps, pornotubes, torrents and the like.

It's a lot harder to make a signup now then it used too for most people.

Agreed, but part of the problem nowadays is that many of the so-called "newbies" are nothing more than known troll idiots using (hiding behind) fake anon nicks in order to run their mouths and post their idiocy.

It's a different world than it was in the late 90's.

There were less boards back then, less webmasters, and far FAR less idiots. Today's survivors have to learn how to adapt or at least cope with all the idiocy and still find a way to thrive in spite of it.

Good post btw, thanks for the history recap. Much of that is very nostalgic for me.

Saw a great show on the history channel, about prison gangs. Gotti was paying the arian brotherhood protection money so that he wouldn't get bitch slapped in the pen.
