with some vision, this can be a great source for revs and mining, etc etc.

I could 'potentially' make $500,000 a year - but when i go to the bank and ask for a loan, they only look at what I actually make.

Any legitimate offer could only be based on actual financials - I would suggest they get revenues up to $100k a month and then look for a buyer, they will get alot more.

I completely agree with you, but they want to take it off their plate because their main company is bandwidth and it does tremendously well.

like I said, I knew I might get a bit reamed on this, but it's worth the risk in case it is a gem in the rubble for someone.

You wouldn't buy real estate based off of what the current owner "thinks" the property can generate in rental income, you base the price off of what it's actually making in rental income.

You can't put potential in the bank, and you don't pay for potential. If someone wants potential they can register their own domain and start from scratch.

Seems like every day someone registers a domain, installs wordpress, and then comes here and asks $200 for it because it has "potential".

Or the guy last month who had something like 60+ TGP's each getting 1000 hits a day and wanted 15K for the network because it had "potential"

Potential doesn't pay the bills.

There really is no standard rule of thumb. Depends on what type of site it is, what the traffic sources are, etc etc.

Also, the site is generating 20K a month in "revenue" according to the listing, that's gross not net.

Plus asking 6 figures could mean $101,000 or $800,000.
I'm not interested in buying it so I don't really care about the details, I'm just on a rant about everyone trying to sell sites based on their earnings potential rather than their earnings.

If you actually look at the site it is clear that they are doing a pretty damn good job at monetizing the site. 27k a month with that kind of shit country traffic is a pretty figure. The weird thing is that none of that site is actually free, you have to dial to gain access which costs just as much as your typical paysite.

No rule on buying sites... Other than does it make a net profit and have its own traffic sources. The price could range due to way to many reasons to list.

However - unless the name is value. Nobody should be buying domains based on possible value. You buy based on what its making now, if it has renewable traffic sources and continual growth, it's worth a lot.. If not, it's worth it's monthly net times X months, often 12 or 24 depending on how easy it is to generate the money.

Looks like a fair bit of blackhat and grey hat SEO has gone into making traffic for this site, including some pretty solid chatroom spamming and so on. Obviously someone has done a ton of hard work, and this site would likely be good for someone looking for more euro traffic.
