Who told you they can't (at least on a significant degree)? Copyrighted material is what made youtube what it is now.

Because youtube makes the bank by putting copyrighted content up... and it's potically correct to their userbase.

We have a video site such as youtube, and we let lots of stuff slip until we get complaints.

The TOS states that the user has to own the copyrights... that, they can't review.

Oh, so since I don't have a big porn site like you then I don't know anything??

Just because you make a lot of money with a porn site doesn't mean you know everything and everybody else is stupid.

I make decent money programming for a cellular phone company but I don't call everyone stupid for dialing wrong numbers!!!!

no... you don't know anything and you have proven that in this thread. you are stupid because you won't listen to reason, ignore the obvious and cling to an idea that anyone can see is totally retarded, a few of whom, have taken the time to explain that to you... explanations which you choose to fully ignore.

dude... try to grasp this... last time... just for you. users flag youtube.com videos. the link is right there under each video. people do in fact review them manually. google has people manually reviewing SERPS from time to time... they have links for users to flag Adwords ads from time to time. its not difficult to control youtube.com no matter how you look at it and no matter what you seem to think, there is no magic "algorithm" and if you weren't such an idiot, you would realize immediately that 1) they don't develop and sell software. 2) if they want a piece of software, they don't need to pay 1.2 BILLION dollars for it. they are known to have access to programmers.

i dont think your crazy sortie, i dont think your correct but your not crazy.

Why did google buy youtube ? because it has recognition, anything that big could spin off its own search engine or similar service and corner the market.. google is afraid . they bought it to run it into the ground so google video can flourish

p.s. your video porn algorithm has merit though

the money is in future contract with networks o broadcast their shows/movies

Youtube being more popular and bigger than google videos was in the prime position to snap these contracts up, now those nwtorks only have 1 choice. google or google

When are you people going to realize that the Google/YouTube deal has absolutely NOTHING to do with videos...NOTHING.

On September 31, GOOG was trading for just under $400/share. Within a month of the announcement it was trading at more than $500/share. Google's stockholders value went up by almost $5B (yes, that is a B)...and don't you for one second think that it was a coincidence. The stock market is what makes the world go around...it is legalized gambling and companies do it ALL THE TIME!

It doesn't take a brilliant business person to answer this question.....Is it a good deal if a company acquires another company for $1.6B if 30 days later their value increases by more than $4B??

Seems like an easy answer to me.

Going back to Soul_Rebel's thumb idea, it's pretty easy for a human to spot naked people; it's a little more involved to try and actually recognise faces or content.

FWIW people even flag vids of girls in bikinis.

I'm the one to tell you that a filter who could pull all adult content videos on the side for reviewers to reveiw asap wouldn't be hard to write... pixel tone and stuff... and it would be a couple thousands MAYBE a dozen thousadns to develop.

Captain Obvious, they wouldn't have bought it if there wasn't potential in it... people gamble on potential.

We have pre videos ads getting 12 % CTR on our network... because people are forced to watch them unlike standard television where you can zap... for now.

Online broadcasting is one of big things that's going to happen on the internet in the next 2 years, and they bought the biggest recognized support for it.

In the end, it's all about making money.

P.S. Even Bill Gates said online broadcasting is the future of television.

I've "trolled" the board long enough without posting to have read a few of your threads and it is clear that you are one of the more advanced technical minds on GFY. So, I respect that you don't completely agree, yet have an open mind. Of course, a person has to really be tech savy to even consider what I said a possiblity.

And "possiblity" was all I was really saying.

Well, that's exactly what the "algorithm" would be. So thanks for clarifying my point without making one of your own.

So go ahead and write the "couple thousands" dollar software so Microsoft can put it in it's browser and make porn haters STFU and make a cool mil!!!

But, you won't write it, because you can't.

1 million 19 thousand 2 hundred dollars per year if they broke the law and didn't pay unemployment insurance + matching Social security + manditory health benefits for all full time. First of all, implementing it in a browser with thumbnail would require way too much CPU for the normal user... it would slow down surfing and stuff. Adult filters out there do a pretty good job.

Your idea is just stupid.

You've got no idea of what our team is capable of... My partner (programmer) was making more money working at the governement as a consultant in a year then you'll probably make in the next 5 years, he could probably do something like that in less then a month and it would be very effective.

We have probably the most advanced backend on the net for a free dating portal out there.

P.S. You have no idea what an algorythm is. We're talking about a whole program there and you're talking about a secret algo. Read the definition. I'm sure you can read it on wikipedia... oh and is wikipedia computer genrated too ?

No way youtube screens each video per day by human eyes!!!
And that's the secret.

Youtube must have invented an algorithm to identify porn video.
And it's the algorithm that google was after.

He who controls the algorithm is in the strongest position to via for ultimate control of the internet since they can guarantee parents, schools and right-wingers of censorship of porn.

Conspiracy theory...maybe; but just think about it.
Interesting bu there is no secret, it was keep yahoo in a downward spiral. Yahoo was trying to buy so Google went over to keep it out of there hands.

And "possiblity" was all I was really saying.
its actually already reality , i read a great tech article the other day on it.. tried to find it to show people but couldnt..

The flesh tones part is what they are working on now. but the crux of the idea is simple speech to text to identify flagged words like "fuck me " etc and text on screen(watermarks)

But im not sure thats the reason they bought youtube, i think google was prob researching this before youtube was around ( but i could be wrong )

when you outsource to india to screen the videos, it shouldnt cost much to hire a building full to screen those 60-70k videos uploaded

Most likely they bought it for ad revenue and to try and keep ahead of Bill Gate's company eating machine. Sort of a grow or die mentality. Problem is that most analysts think that it was a bad buy, which is why their stock has suffered lately.

sortie, not to insult your intelligence, but you don't know what you're talking about.

first off, youtube content IS screened by people, some employees, but MOST by other users who can FLAG content as inappropriate. that's why every video has that button next to it and lets anyone flag it. That’s why when you click on a porn video it says “this video has been marked as inapproprirate by youtube users and is no longer available…”. youtbue was built from the ground up to be a user controlled community, from the keywords, to descriptions to tags to content.

Youtube technology is weak. Their automation is extremely weak. They burned through $25 MILLION in investor dough before they sold to google. They are burning through $2 million per month in bandwidth.

As to why google bought youtube, the story behind that is some sleazy investor shit, and has nothing to do with “unique technologies.” Youtube still doesn’t come anywhere close to breaking even.

Do some research, the info is out there. Unfortunately, your theory is wrong.

I applaud Smokey, the stocks shares theory guy, and others that recognize Youtube has nothing to do with videos, but rather resource conglomeration, and media consolidation- it's an entirely different model.. that i suspect will begin to reveal itself shortly, and long into the future.

I don't think you quite nailed this one on the head, Sortie, but i think you're asking the right questions.

Actually I think it has more to do with the 'big guys' battling out the video/cable/tv show/advertising model.

If you follow what's been going on lately, and Yahoo launching their '9' network. It's a matter of time before either Yahoo, or Google, perfects the way to do video and build in a profitable way to deliver advertising via video, and 5/10/15 second adverts.

This started years ago when Yahoo bought LaunchCast.

This doesn't even get into the Fox/ABC partner announcement the other day having to do with the web, and getting their programs available for d/l via internet.

Right now the race is on for monitizing the advertising on video.

Google plans to take over the world but there is no way that YouTube has a script that recognizes porn. Surely not?

Does it also have a script makes all of the 18yr+ clips members only?
