The secret reason Google bought Youtube.

Why would google want youtube? Besides the traffic!

Youtube gets about 60k-70k video uploads per day.
Yet, you can't find a single hardcore porn video on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong...I've never seen one.

No way youtube screens each video per day by human eyes!!!
And that's the secret.

Youtube must have invented an algorithm to identify porn video.
And it's the algorithm that google was after.

He who controls the algorithm is in the strongest position to via for ultimate control of the internet since they can guarantee parents, schools and right-wingers of censorship of porn.

Conspiracy theory...maybe; but just think about it.

Doctor Dre 03-24-2007 03:41 PM

1.2 billions to censor porn ?
You're fucking stupid

P.S. 60-70 video uploads ? are you on crack ? We get way more then that on our little video site.

The fact that google bought youtube has nothing to do with the fact that web media advertising is even more succesfull at getting your attention then TV ads, and then it's one of the biggest website on planet earth.
Jesus.

No, not to censor porn...but to be in control of it if it is desired.

Klen 03-24-2007 03:42 PM

Porn censor? There is tons of porn videos on you tube.

it takes about anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to get a video up on youtube it is 100% screened by humans

Jesus.

Focus on the diabolical here.

Why not be in ultimate control of the entire internet stream if you could get such a deal from the government?

The only way to possibily get such a deal would be to guarantee that you could sensor out all porn for the end users who wanted that.

That time frame suggest to me that it is not human.

The entire US goverment can't process simple forms in 10 minutes!
If they could, then you'd get your tax return in 10 minutes if you used the E-Z form.

theHun screens new posts... He gets thousands a day...

It loads in a flash and you quickly accept or reject...

One person can screen a large amount of data.

Profits of Doom 03-24-2007 04:10 PM

I've seen videos with nudity that have slipped by a few times but they didn't last long. There is always a Joe Dogooder that is ready to report adult content so even if the screeners miss it initially it won't last long. Kind of like ebay...they always have users on the lookout for objectionable auctions since they miss them all the time.

sortie 03-24-2007 04:11 PM

OK, answer this then....

How many employees would it take to screen 70k videos per day and how much money did the original owners have to pay these employees while youtube didn't make a dime?

Let's see...70 employees who each screen 1000 vids in their perspective 8 hour shift...??? That's 125 vids per hour each or 2.08 vids per minute.

If someone had to take a shit then they got fired at that pace.

And at a meger $7 an hour for a 40 hour for 70 employees that would be
1 million 19 thousand 2 hundred dollars per year if they broke the law and didn't pay unemployment insurance + matching Social security + manditory health benefits for all full time. So it would cost them near 2 million a year for human screening at the least. That for a company with no revenue????

NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, he uses a script also. The script checks for viruses and hi-jacks, the number of images, size of images and video, out going links...etc and that cuts the pile down. Then he only reviews what he needs, not every stupid submission that he don't even have room to post.

germ 03-24-2007 04:33 PM

ZOMG youre right! google bought the amazing algorithm instead of spending a fraction of that to develope one themselves.

i mean....its not like they have some of the top people on the planet when it comes to doing that kind of thing.

OK, so if google could make one them why don't they announce they have it and sell it? Plenty of mainstream video sites would pay big time for it.

Lets see, $10,000 for the technology for life or $250,000 a year for screening(small company).

PS: Would you pay 2 billion for windows or would you just develope it youself for a fraction of the cost? :1orglaugh

horvy 03-24-2007 04:41 PM

i used to upload porn to you tube all the time. It would only stay on for a day or so but i did it.

OzMan 03-24-2007 04:43 PM

So you are saying that youtube has an algo that can analyze a video file and detect if it's porn?

aaaaaaalriiiiiighty then......

As far as conspiracy theories go, that makes the underground UFO bases in Antartica where Elvis lives seem quite believable :uhoh

I hear ya loud and clear....but think about it though.

How the fuck are they so successfull at getting rid of porn?

It's just a theory, like I said. But big hitters are doing more than the average joe-blow can conceive unless it's all luck!
What is YouTube doing?

mattz 03-24-2007 05:02 PM

lol this thread is great, you are truly a fucking idiot

slapass 03-24-2007 05:03 PM

So your suggestion is that a 3-4 million to workers in India is too much to protect their billion dollar investment? They out source everything with adwords and adsense to India so why wouldn't they do the same with youtube?

sortie 03-24-2007 05:06 PM

FELL ME ON THIS :

Algorithm:

- Define human flesh tone range for a pixel; if 70%(per frame) of pixels fall in the range then flag the video for human screening..

- Like mpg compression tracks movement, track "rythmic movement" like fucking and flag video.

- Audio word recognition, like with computer phone directories. Detect profanity, grunts growns, chick screaming OH OH OH! and flag video.

- Image matching: Like scripts that read those jpg security codes, but here you match sexual positions.

- Porn Star recognition; like the law enforcement software that goes in the street video camares and tries to match faces to know fugatives.

I'm just saying that this stuff is possible and there seems to not be any company claiming to have it. The company that puts it all together is going to get paid. I'm just wondering if that is what google actually got.

Did Youtube have this before they were bought by google?

Remember, the site existed in it's present state before google bought it.

because google isnt historically in the business of selling their shit to other companies for 10 grand. its just not part of their business model.

no...but im not google or microsoft so your point is invalid.

also...if i recall, youtube had a ton of funding from outside investors before google bought them. this wasnt 2 guys in a basement running it.

Dude this industry is a lot smaller then you think... you're definitly not seeing the whole picture on this one. This dosen't make any sence.

Porn videos are on youtube all the time. They get reported and removed asap. It's as easy as that.

What is YouTube doing?

Put a UFC video up and it will take +- 5 mins to be reported as adult content... it's user reviewed with employes monitoring it.

And as far as budjet goes, 1 mill is nothing compared to what they spent from their investors.

Like we do on our network of free dating sites. Users can report fake profils and we delete them asap.

Doctor Dre 03-24-2007 06:21 PM

I'm done arguing. Just post a porn video and see if it gets through their scripts.

You're the most idiotic conspiracy nut I've ever heard off.

2videos/min? what are you gonna jerk off on each? A semi-smart system will display a series of thumbs of each video and let user to bulk select. This way someone can approve/decline easily 15-40clips/min.

RayBonga 03-24-2007 06:24 PM

Not true, I've seen adult videos uploaded and deleted after a while.

Just hire hire 50 indian guys and tell them to check 1000 videos each, pay each one $5 a day and you're done.

Well man, I'm not saying that I am sure about this. I'm just saying that they have a system that a lot of entrepreneurs would have lover to have and it would be worth really big bucks.

Think of how many people probably thought about a Youtube concept then trashed the Idea after thinking a buch of CP would be uploaded and they would be in a shit situation. Youtube thought about it, and solved the problem and that in itself is worth money.

Nodtveidt 03-24-2007 06:29 PM

yeah einstein... they solved it with reviewers and a link under each video for youtube users to flag a video as "innapropriate"

WOW genious... 1.2 billions for an algorithm ?

Buy videocharge for 40 bucks, it can do that for you...

A program doing that would cost a couple thousands to develop.

You really have NO clue about the online business, web developement and techniques used to acheive what they want.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

It would seem thay solved it that way, but I never report anything so why should I believe all these vigilant surfers are.

So explain why the "reviewers" don't stop the obvious copyrighted material!!!
Are they so stupid that the can't recognize a Seinfeld episode?

Theo 03-24-2007 06:35 PM

It's less sophisticated than you think and nothing new, check out for example videobox.com. Script can also check for sound, corrupted files etc. Instead accepting the user could just decline bad videos, in a large screen someone could even preview over 100 videos/min. Without even putting him on full force every hour, he could do 25k videos/day. That's 3 employees ;-)

sortie 03-24-2007 06:42 PM

Explain why Youtube reviewers can find porn but they can't find the copyrighted material that they are now facing a 1 billion dollar law suit over.

So they allowed content that will get them sued and persued content that's already in their search engine because.....why????

Is it possible that there's a algorithm to find porn but not other copyrighted material?

sortie 03-24-2007 06:44 PM

50 skeptical lamers.

That would still be proprietary software worth big bucks that involved algorithms, so you are only proving my point here.
