Hey man Rohrmoser is a some sort of high class neighborhood !.

Where are you going tonight, Escazu ? San Pedro ? San Jose Downtown ? San Pedro is a must go for everyone in Costa Rica.

You mean a rental Sosa? There are areas and areas... but assuming you want a decent place, an apartment with a couple of bedrooms is prob renting at $500-$900 ish. A home with a pool blah is probably in the region of min $1000 upwards - maybe averaging $1500 ish - but can be anything you like and $5000+ a month is not uncommon.

Property is rapidly rising in price - overall average is prob 20%, but much higher on the Pacific coast which is rising around 40-60% annually. There are still decent homes around from about $200K ish upwards, but also fairly expensive places. A few condo complexes are on the market at $1100 per finished sq ft - that's $2.75 mill for 2500 ft condo - crazy price for here.

A maid or gardner costs around $250 full-time for the month and generally food etc is cheaper than the US and certainly cheaper than the EU.

The government reckons a person can live on $1000/month - but I'd avoid trying that You can prob live OK here for $2000/month and anything from $3000K gives a lot higher lifestyle.

Other element is there are no taxes on net revenue - you can bring whatever funds you want into Costa Rica and no taxation on that.

Sounds heavenly.

I tell my boys that in 7 years, when the youngest turns 18, that I am selling everything, and going to go live on a beach somewhere and sell tshirts to tourists.

They think I'm teasing.

I'm not.

Hehehe... We would not be here if there were tax forms to fill in I spent decades doing that stuff and called a halt to it - it's a pet hate. There are taxes, but only if the revenue is raised within the country - all other revenue is excluded from any taxation and includes all funds paid by external entities, profits/salaries from foreign corps et al.

Yes.. got DirecTV and the normal cable stuff with English-speaking channels from North America, the EU and some Asian countries. HBO and other movie channels are on cable.

There are some folks who do exactly that selena. There are two sides to Costa Rica - one which is all condo complexes and McDonalds and TGF's. Also another which is total paradise....

Can think of two friends, one is an EU person and the other from the US. The EU people spend six months a year living in what can only be described as a "beach hut" under some palm trees on the coast. It's not that they cannot afford better - it's what they want to do to "escape".

The other looks like a long-haired "beach hippy" who spends his time swimming a lot - he is actually a heart surgeon who invented some kind of new heart value and then "escaped" with his family to live off the royalties in another paradise area on the Pacific coast. Tho he does have a real house - and the biggest swimming pool I've ever seen. (Typical heart surgeon - all he cares about is exercising his heart )

One thing that is worth considering - real estate here is rising rapidly and it's worth getting a foothold at a level now and staking your claim. There is little doubt any investment would double in under four years (and that's erring on the cautious side).

Webby, if I get to the point where I can make any kind of real estate investment like that, I will hit you up for some guidance.

Because when they are both settled, I am going to be ready for some peace and freedom. Love my boys, but being a single parent wears you out sometimes.

I hate the cold,so someplace warm where I can stretch my meager American dollars sounds blissful.

No problems! Apart from Costa Rican nationals (they are one of the most friendly and genuine people ever!!), there are folks from Canada, USA, EU and various other countries.

We were on the beach last week and somebody pointed out that there are more "imigrants" on the beach that Costa Rica folks - the languages were German, Dutch, English, French etc... and estimated that about 70% were people from other countries, - tho most were prob from North America.

Here's some pics... most of them are related to land we bought, and in no particular order, but give a clue of the wildlife...

Costa Rica - Pacific Coast

No problemo!! I can put you in touch with professionals we trust here - both lawyers and "real" realtors who will be pleased to drive you around anywhere for as long as it takes to find what you may be looking for.

Can also suggest loads of options - we have been buying real estate here (mainly land areas) for a good few years now and can recommend areas to look.

Know the cold feeling! It's night here now, but the temperature is about 72 locally and going to be around 80 on the coast

Haha.

Actually I find I get along great with people that have completely opposite views of mine so long as everyone respects each other and nobody gets too upset. Its fun thinking the other person is an idiot knowing full well they think you're an idiot, lol.

We can always have a meaningful discussion about climate change and the effect on ecology and I'll haul along a few biologists and "experts" to bore us stiff

This meeting starts in the bar at 8pm sharp and lasts all night - the compensation is that the bar will serve a full breakfast as the sun comes up

PS Na Ryan - I'll not torture ya man!

Webby - those are awesome pics. Thanks for the link. I'm planning on a trip somewhere around there - either Costa Rica or Belize and I just fell in love.
Belize is another very nice place (another is Panama!). Belize City is not exactly attractive (same as San Jose in Costa Rica), - but outside, the country is very nice.

Found more images - they are from the Osa region on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica (tho just don't convey the real aura of the place). We have a project going in Osa - it's one of these rare places where the environment is still relatively untouched. National Geographic claimed it was the "most bio intense place on the planet", which says a lot, considering they placed it above the Amazon basin.

There are no animal pics there, but it's the type of place you can see jaguars and their cubs on the beach (they are harmless and stay away from humans) - the bay is full of sealife with dophins following the whales around. The gulf is the location where a lot of underwater nature filming is done - it's ideal for this. I've had to pull a 10-12 ft boa from under the car we parked down there (beautiful snake with an awesome skin pattern - not harmful!). There are three species of monkeys and the usual parrots and toucans.

It's very hard to describe this and only way to appreciate it is be in the middle of it

Here's the pic link...

OMG! Wow. Those pics are amazing - I love the aerial pics. Thanks for finding those for me. You could have left out the spider one though.

My boyfriend and I like to travel on motorcycles (not mopeds)... is Costa Rica or Belize the type of place for that?

(sorry for the thread hijack... I could post boobies to make up for it!)

Nah some of my best friends political views are the polar opposite of my own lol. Everyone that has met me in person that Ive had any issues with on the board get along with me pretty well now. I actually avoid politics in person hehe.

AH.. Forgot about the spider

Costa Rica is fine for a motorcycle tour. The roads are fairly bad in areas but more a problem for SUV's than motorcycles - but it's prob an excellent way to see the country (The main roads are fine - it's just deep in the countryside there are some severe roads).

Belize is kinda similar, but better roads, - tho maybe someone who lives in Belize could update on this.

There are plenty hotels and places to stay on a CR tour - and they don't cost much - especially outside San Jose. It's prob better not to bother booking and just walk in - the rates will prob be cheaper.

If you end up here by motorcycle - it's worth a visit to Osa and a small town called Puerto Jimenez. The wildlife encroaches on the town and monkeys and parrots are used to people - the monkeys will walk down the main street

There are also a few of the larger national parks nearby... here's some links to the area...

Hehe... To be honest, I'm more biz orientated than much else and no problem with anyone regardless of their views or whatevers. We all live on the same planet. Building something worthwhile is more of a buzz.

No problem Ryan - ya got a good few beers to come
