How many NON-US wm's would move to the US if it was free?

Hypothetical question...

How many NON-US webmasters would move to the US if moving expenses and rent for the first year was covered 100%? You would have 24 hours to decide...

Just curious how many people would just up and move to the greatest country on the planet

Nice country and like the US people (at least the one's I know) and have many good friends there.

It's not an issue over the country or people - just the foul track record of the government, and not just because of recent events, - the crap has been going on for decades - and has only one ending - not a good one.

It just does not make sense to give up existing freedoms and commercial scenarios for the privilege of being taxed on worldwide income and living under the existing laws, which are the worst set of conditions for the adult biz out of all western countries and bets on, this will get far worse yet.

well, if you put it that way, I could live 1 year for free whether it's in US or any other civilized country.

Personally, since I've a son born in US and living in San Francisco area it wouldn't be a big problem to move there, but I wouldn't want to. The freedom concerns are important, the fact that you can't move a finger without being tracked and noticed isn't something I feel comfortable with.

Then you have some cultural aspects, which are even more important to me: familiar and social values, FOOD (the best argentinian restaurants in US would rank as 3rd level here, only that 20/30 times more expensive), the usual social behavior and so on. ie, here we have dinner between 9 and 11 PM. Night life starts around 2 AM and so on. You'd say that's such a little thing, but changing all your hours for a long period of time is really annoying, my limit tends to be 15/20 days and after that I end at McDonalds or the likes (btw, McDonalds is considered trash food only the kids and some teenagers like).

Ha ha, seems like I think with my stomach, lol

Add to all that life 3 or 4 times more expensive, that in certain places you're not exactly loved as a foreigner, that you'd need to leave all your friends, family, places, culture and such... I can't see a good reason to move other than you'd pay me a full year of living for free

I think that would be a better thread. Maybe I should start one.

I could of moved to the US anytime I liked, got family there, but why move from the land of the free, home of the brave to the the US land of the restricted home of the scared?

Eva and I were offered a job there last year and I turned it down. Issues like, spent 20 years in a country where I was worried about everytime the door bell rang, don't have that now. Cost of living, schooling, crime, standard of living, culture and quality of life.

Problem with all cultures is we are raised to appreciate different things and I simply do not appreciate what Americans appreciate.

Before you knock me would you like to tell me what I'm missing please.

Word.

If you asked me a few years ago though, the answer would have been yes. Now though, after seeing how things work over there, i'd pass.

Like someone else has already said, the US still remains one of my top places to visit from time to time. But thats it.

Oh yeah, and your gambling laws suck ass aswell. Land of the free ? Yeah right !

Well in 2008 I am moving to the US and its not free of charge. Its costing me a lot but I don't give a shit. I'm sick of getting screw with the exchange rate and the price of everything here. If I lived in the US I'll save so much money in the long run.

Sure I'll need to pay Health Insurance where its Free in the UK. But I'd rather be able to buy 2 BMW's instead of one. I'd rather be able t have a nice 4 or 5 bedroom house with 3 bathrooms and a pool and hot tub in my garden. Where here I have a 3 bedroom house and thats about it. Sure you guys might be insane but I don't mind, I'll keep myself to myself.

I knew a ton of people would jump on the same anti-government / anti-US bandwagon... every government is corrupt (not saying it is okay, but don't be so suprised). Yes, even your government is laced with corruption.

I can't stand the hypocrites.. hate and bash the US out loud but conveniently turn the other cheek as soon as a US dollar comes your way... chances are that US dollar spent on your websites was taxed at least 30% to support the activities of the government you hate, right?

For those that just realized this... I'll try to find a script for you that will redirect all of your US traffic to a non-profit organization somewhere.

And what is so crazy about the legal system here? There are laws everywhere much crazier than ours... shit, the US doesn't cut your hands off if you steal and you can't pay off every cop on the streets like some places...

So unless you're doing something you shouldn't be the laws aren't that "crazy" otherwise everyone would be in jail, right?

And as for the gambling comment, I can gamble at the gas station right now if I wanted to :P

You are funny. No way I would move to the USA. First of all, because I would miss my friends and family here.

Second reason, here I can do my work, and talk about it etc. I see a lot of ppl in the US are 'hiding' it.

Also I like my freedom and such. And when I call, I would like to call private. And not that some guys are listening WITH me, because the Bush administration wants that.

Also that many ppl wear guns etc is a thing I dislike..

But yeah I do like the US when I visit it. But I wouldn't wanna live there..

Who's hating? Somebody asked a simple question and got honest replies. If you see that as US bashing then it says more about your paranoia than anything else.
