Help a brother out..

So I've been in this biz almost 2 years, I've worked my ass off, and I have a very sucessful AVS site that will make me just into 6 figures this year. But, I find that now that I've reached that level where I'm relatively happy with my income I'm having a hard time pushing beyond it.

One problem is that I think I've pushed this site about as far as it will go. I'm looking into buying more traffic for it and some other stuff to increase its revenue, and that will keep me in pocket, in fact I'll probably have a 5 figure month with it soon, but thats about as far as it will ever go in its current form.

I've thought about ditching the AVS, signing up with CCBill, and starting an affiliate proggie. But I'm really scared to fuck with something thats been working so well. Not to mention the fact its my meal ticket in this industry.

Thought about starting a TGP, but I hate freeloaders.. even though I make most of my money from 'em.

Thought about starting another site in a niche I'm as enthused for, well I'll probably do that anyway, but another AVS site isn't going to put me into the big cash either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting someone to tell me exactly what to so.. but some general advice on breaking out of this slump would certainly be appreciated.

i rarely give out advice, but here's some real vague but useful stuff. if you are one of the few that has figured out how to do something different enough to make real money - then scale. scale it big time.

that's one of the great things about our industry ;)

Believe me, if this site was easily replicable I'd be living on my own island right now. But you do have a good point.

If you're making 6 figures on one site, then there are some basic things I would do. At least, from my relatively simplistic point of view...

First, make another site with a similar theme to the first. Build it up in the ways you worked on the original site. Heck, promote it from the original site. This is basically what I have done recently, and it has helped... but I don't have the promotion skills you do, or I'd be making six figures.

Second, make a site just like your AVS, but make it a paysite. Some differences, of course, and don't make it clear how similar they are. Might as well go for the people who prefer paysites... This will allow you to work on a real partnership program.

Third, I'd agree with scale... make the site you've got bigger. With six figures from one site, you can probably afford to reinvest some money. Test some ways of promoting it by buying traffic. If some of them convert, pump some money into them.

I'm assuming you've tried, or considered, all of this. From my point of view, these are the strategies you should try to raise the bar, so to speak, so growth doesn't stop.

So. There's my advice. So, can you give me some on how to get *up* to six figures on a single site?! ;)

To tell you the truth, all I did was pinpoint a significant subniche of a very popular niche that was not being catered to very well. I remember when the idea/site design popped into my head I knew immediately it was going to make me money. 4 things that have helped me are..

1. Branding. I have a site name and theme which sticks in peoples minds. My stats show that a significant portion of my traffic comes from people either typing in my URL or searching the SE's for variants on it.

2. I spoil those who do sign up. I give them more than they expect, movies, daily updates, news, jokes, a large pic archive and so forth. In my experience it helps to make it personal. My first time rebill rates hover around 70%.

3. I'm sure you already know this, but the fact that I'm excited and turned on by the sort of porn on that site really helps me market it to others.

4. When you find something that does work and have some cash behind you, experiment with buying traffic. I plonked down $500 for a #1 listing on The Hun not so long ago. It was worth it. Currently looking into purchasing more. If you sell amateur traffic, hit me on ICQ

As far as scaling goes, thats the avenue I'm thinking about and pursuing most aggressively now.

Heres to quiet for coming out of the advice closet! And I don't say that lightly, I will give some serious thought to how I can scale this concept better.

Gutterboy... That is very modest of you. I'm sure you worked a lot harder on it all than you make it sound. I'm making low five-figures a year and I've been doing this for almost two years. With a great niche and quite a lot else going for me. Maybe I just don't have a head for business.

Maybe for your next project you should start promoting my sites up to that size, and make 50%+ of all the sales through my partner program. ;)

I like your site, and I must seem like an ass complaining about only getting (very) low 6's from mine. I have a very type A, pedantic, perfectionist side to my personality which causes me problems sometimes! I'd probably be saying the same shit if I was "only" making 500k, lol.

Anyway, i think your sites are cool.. its very obvious you are doing what you love. As to the lacking revenue, could it be that the Goth niche is too tight to produce much more? Not sure, plus I am an almost complete vanilla when it comes to the dark side ;) But I'm willing to learn! hehehe

Hey, we should always be trying to fine-tune everything and keep growing. I respect that. And if you can manage to get advice out of this crowd (impressive!) more power to ya!

I'm glad you like my sites. I do indeed love what I do... no better niche to be in that the one you love. The truth is, the niche is pretty healthy. I am just not able to concentrate much on promoting and expanding the sites, due to my full-time (theoretically) job as a PhD student... So I keep it steady but have been struggling to make it grow. Plus, I don't know business.

Hit me up on ICQ some time, we can chat.

what scale (among other endless massaging) can do to a single paysite over 18 months.

Im in the same boat, Gutterboy.
The only difference is I run paysites and was in the 6 figure range years ago. My problem is also with expanding to the next level. For me the big problem is not having enough time or help to expand my business. I tried hiring people to handle marketing and traffic so I could concentrate on member retention, updates, and resellers. That failed miserably with every person I hired. Lately I have been considering merging with a larger company and just letting them handle the marketing and billing on my sites so I can focus on expansion.

BTW,
I actually just helped someone who has a 200k uniques per day tgp change his site from AVS to CCBill. It was a total failure.. the only thing we can figure is that because all his trades ran AVS sites that his traffic was more comfortable with signing up at an AVS. We must have tried 5 different tours and layouts. He went from 70 signups per day to 1-3. When we put the AVS back online his signups came right back. So anyway.. figured that info might help ya if you do try the paysite thing.

it's a pretty basic idea: the stategy of doing larger and larger volume, and squeezing costs down over volume precentage-wise.

if you have 10 members, and want to create a killer paysite (think content), it will cost you X. if you have 10,000 members, the content will still cost you X.

of course the more members -> the more bandwidth and hardware costs - but as you increase volume, all of those costs should come down on a per member % profit, because more volume = better pricing and leverage.

just one example. i apply this sort of thinking everywhere possible.

Wildman: the reason i want to 'quit', is because right now, a night on the town for me equates to a couple gin and tonics, a fat joint, and posting on gfy :)

I use both SexKey and Cyberage. They are both great AVS's imo, but the standard caveat applies: because that combo works for me doesn't mean it'll will work for anyone else.

I have a friend who can't convert Cyberage worth a shit but she does really well with FreeNetPass, which is the one AVS I have never been able to sell much on despite repeated attempts.

Something you may want to consider is opening your own paysites without an affiliate program to start with and use your existing traffic base to feed your paysites. Then once you have enough members to get a steady amount of monthly recurring cash from those paysites each month, then look into opening an affiliate program.

For my gambling site/ebook I got a simular problem.

I have not been able to get a shitload of targeted traffic.

Right now I get targeted SE, traffic, buy from a few sites I found over the years to produce good sales.

but then it stops... I mean I do make good cash/sales but not recurring [thats why my main solution right now is to make a members site with reguarly updates and recurring cash for me]

I have tried goto.. sucked
I have tried googles per click... sucked

my newest idea is to buy a few top spot banners at the hun and see if I get any sales ( I should i theory)

I had a thinggy going with an online casino using my exit banner but after a few months they stopped and made their own "tips and tricks" page and a few other casinos followed them!!!

So anyone give me advice on how I can get more targeted traffic??? someone called topdog tried so sell me "fake" traffic here on gfy and ever since I have required to send me traffic before pay.... people seeems to fuck around alot these days!

I would even consider joint venture if anyone could come up with idea for me (for over 2 years straight i convert 1-50 or better on banner click thrus) but its been impossible for me to grow the traffic!

Vegas

Hey vegasdude, my tip for you would be to move into something else... I checked earlier this year and overture was selling clicks at over $20 per click!!! That is fucking criminal!!! And sick!!!

The bigboy casinos (888, casinoonnet etc) really have got that shit stitched up... Use your current profits and go into porn or something.
