So do all hosting providers use contracts on managed solutions?

Are there any hosting providers that are NOT using the yearly contracts to sell their Managed Dedicated servers?

Sure there are, most providers would only require yearly contracts on larger commits, i.e Colocation or 200+Mbps commits.

How come some servers are $350 and yet some are within $150 range? Hardware or profit?

The difference in pricing comes from a plethora of possibilities. Quality of support, quality of bandwidth, quality of hardware, size of company, sales that may be taking place at time of purchase, etc. The 2 big ones are quality of support and quality of bandwidth.

I take it that EU based datacenters are no good for US market? Must be pinging like 200ms+ from States, or?

EU data centers are fine

NY -> Amsterdam is 80MS

Which means California -> Amsterdam = 160MS

We have data centers in both New York and Amsterdam and no one complains about speed.

I would say most don't I know we don't unless you need something abnormally custom. http://www.dwhs.com
