So do all hosting providers use contracts on managed solutions?

Are there any hosting providers that are NOT using the yearly contracts to sell their Managed Dedicated servers?

Sultry_Selenia 11-07-2006 08:18 AM

Hosthead doesn't require a contract with their managed dedicated, I have a box with them.

Spudstr 11-07-2006 08:18 AM

Sure there are, most providers would only require yearly contracts on larger commits, i.e Colocation or 200+Mbps commits.

I have had 4-5 managed servers and never had to sign a contract

shima 11-07-2006 08:31 AM

weird.. must be different in Europe..
How come some servers are $350 and yet some are within $150 range? Hardware or profit?

The difference in pricing comes from a plethora of possibilities. Quality of support, quality of bandwidth, quality of hardware, size of company, sales that may be taking place at time of purchase, etc. The 2 big ones are quality of support and quality of bandwidth.

I take it that EU based datacenters are no good for US market? Must be pinging like 200ms+ from States, or?

zagi 11-09-2006 03:47 PM

EU data centers are fine

NY -> Amsterdam is 80MS

Which means California -> Amsterdam = 160MS

We have data centers in both New York and Amsterdam and no one complains about speed.

I would say most don't I know we don't unless you need something abnormally custom. http://www.dwhs.com
