Merchant account? Help me out!

I've been looking at a few options. 2checkout, authorize.net, they both look good.

Any other good merchant account provider?

What are you guys using for mainstream.

2checkout isn't a gateway, it's more like paypal. Authorize.net is a gateway, thus it requires the merchant to have an account with Visa, MC, Amex, etc.

Sounds like you may want to know the difference between a gateway (or third party processor - TPP) and a merchant account.

The simple route is a TPP and they provide complete management - and costs more - eg 2checkout.

Briefly a merchant account is entirely different and you bear a risk element, but the charges are less - eg authorize.net. Check out the netbilling.com link in this thread for more info.

Here's a few more TPP's to check out...

http://www.chronopay.com
http://www.digibuy.com
http://www.multicards.com
http://www.propay.com
http://www.kagi.com
http://www.worldpay.com

It's really a matter of checking out whatever services are most suitable for your project - eg software could be kagi.com or another skipped from that list, regsoft.com.

don't know what you'll be using it for, but authorize.net stopped taking adult transactions several years ago...

I use authorize.net for my mainstream stuff. When you sign up with them, you have the option of having Wells Fargo be your merchant account provider. They send the money straight to the bank account you provide them at sign up.

I used to have a wells fargo merchant and they were the best, imho. Low rates too.

If you are looking for a third party processor and its a "high risk" (adult, pharmaceutical, ect) You should consider us at Etelegate.com - We do not charge a signup fee and we do not charge the $750 activation fee's for Visa and Mastercard.
