Oh man, this sounds like you really need some relaxation. You can learn autogenic training, but at first this will increase your stress, so I'd advise against this at first. This works pretty well. But a good relaxation tape can work wonders. At least you'll be relaxed while you listen to the tape.

It also helps to have scheduled free time. Have an hour a day during which you're not allowed to do any work, to think of work, to do anything that is related to work. Switch off your computer. Just live.

This sounds like you're torturing yourself beyond your abilities. Take a step back. You'll get ahead faster then.

And since I'm already in smart-ass mode, here's a little story:

A man walks through the woods and sees a guy with a saw trying to get a tree down. He's sweating and really working hard but hardly makes progress. The man watches him for a moment and asks: Why don't you sharpen your saw. You'll get the tree down much faster.
I don't have time to sharpen the saw, I have to saw. was the reply.

The morale behind this story is: Take some time to sharpen the saw.
Take some time to relax and feel good. Out of pure pressure to success this is the way to go. Relaxation is not a luxury, but a necessity for good functioning.

Think about it.

That is some good advice. I know I need to slow down and "relax", but that takes time and I need to start right away. I have been working hard and been hypered all my life and it's hard for me to wind down and relax. I got to slow down. Good story. Thanks a lot for your kind words and advice.

lately, a Cisco CCNA book can really work wonders on helping you to sleep in 20 minutes or less.....

It's a good thing. I got CNE certification in Novell by passing 7 tests in 1994, and then became a CNI (certified Novell Instructor) which got me grandfathered into MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer), but each course I wanted to teach I had to pass the test for it. Any new versions that came out I had to constantly certified for. I made a lot of money back then teaching at certified centers, but I got sick and tired of studying and passing test so I finally became a pimp

These days, if it's too hot, I can't sleep for shit. I usually kick on the overhead fan to ensure air's moving around me, flop onto my side, and I'm out.

I'm on the path to CCIE as my end game.... So far its not that bad at all, just after doing classes a few hours a day, working in Mainstream IT, then my projects in adult, THEN re-reading some Cisco materials ..... its an 18 hour day, 7 days a week ...

In the long run = Totally worth it for the pain now of never sleeping without dreaming of routing, switching and packets dancing in my head.

That's another thing. If I sleep less than 6 or 7 hours, I get really nervous during the whole day.

Insomnia
Although results are still controversial, studies suggest that melatonin supplements help induce sleep in people with disrupted circadian rhythms (such as those suffering from jet lag or poor vision or those who work the night shift) and those with low melatonin levels (such as some elderly and individuals with schizophrenia). In fact, a recent review of scientific studies found that melatonin supplements help prevent jet lag, particularly in people who cross five or more time zones.

A few studies suggest that when taken for short periods of time (days to weeks) melatonin is significantly more effective than placebo in decreasing the amount of time required to fall asleep, increasing the number of sleeping hours, and boosting daytime alertness. In addition, at least one study suggests that melatonin may improve the quality of life in people who suffer from insomnia and some experts suggest that melatonin may be of value for children with learning disabilities who suffer from insomnia.

Although research suggests that melatonin may be modestly effective for treating certain types of insomnia as described, few studies have investigated whether melatonin supplements are safe and effective over the long term.

Damn, I shouldn't have posted this thread. Now, I can't sleep at all.

I am going to drink some alcohol now, and in the future I am going to relax and come down so I can wind down at nights.

cheers
