another thing that REALLY bugs me about Internext, and it kind of falls into the same thing I have been talking about

Internext wants to be, and could very well be, the best convention that adult internet has to offer, but one of the main things they are going to have to step up and offer is seminars or speakers that touch on some of not only the current technologies and practices used right now, but also those coming up in the future

where is our blog seminar?
where is our HD VOD seminar?
Where is our internet to dvd seminar?
etc etc etc

the last few Internext shows that I have seen have the same old boring topics with the same old boring speakers (no offense to the speakers), and it is time for a BIG refresh of the topics discussed

yeah, the legal and 2257 are great and all, but most affiliates could care less about those, affiliates want to see things they are using...comus, atx, wordpress, seo, etc

While I know there are a lot of trade secrets, and things like seo aren't going to be in depth with all the cats out of the bag, but these are important topics, and if there was an seo seminar that even just basically talked about all the public info that is out there, that would be a start

The adult industry, internet and video, are leaders in a lot of ways in the distribution of media to customers, why aren't we having seminars for topics like that?

Some people in the thread are talking about where they exhibit. I've enjoyed a lot of the adult shows and a lot of the so-called mainstream shows. I've exhibited and spoken at both, so it was of interest to me that that particular show had a specific statement like that. I thought other folks might be interested too, but I didn't mean anything more than what I said.

My suggestion:

Pay the people that speak on the seminars. Don't have people trying to sell their products. I hate traffic panels that talk about buying traffic from who, rather then talking search engines, blogs, rss, etc.

I don't attend many seminars because I feel I know more then the people speaking. Not that these people don't know things, but they aren't sharing the good info.

If they were paid to be there, maybe they'd give it more love?

Can't wait...its always good to learn more about the industry. I just went to my first internext and it was a learning experience as well as a fun one. This should be a great show for sure.

This is true!

I have to do something besides that though. John sleeps most of the day!

Honestly Ive walked out of several of the seminars over the years but the ones I picked this time kept my interest.

We will synch up and Ill bring the whiskey and you can try one maybe.

I'd be happy to give a video production semnar .. full with technical and pratical excerises ... I have given many 3 - 5 day workshops in the Pro video mainstream world .. however it isn't something I'd do for free or for a free hsow pass ... nor would 2 hours be enough time to correctly go over the material.

Offer real workshops with professionals that have done the work for years .. rather then put soome industry folk up on a podidum and talk about what they do .. without giving any secrets away!

The new show floor layout does look interesting. A visual helps understand what they *tried* to explain earlier in this thread. Seems designed to accomdate the needs and requests of several types of exhibit/networking styles. You can see it here http://internext-expo.com/assets/IN2006.pdf

Yes the floor does look interesting. That part is a good idea. The issue is charing $250/300 to walk that show floor and give their advertisers foot traffic and clients.

Get that free and charge for the seminars. But they know their seminars are sub par thats why they make everyone pay instead. Killing them pretty fast in fact.

I think the way the seminars have been is because people arent paid to give them, its like they get to advertise what they do. There is no problem with that but its really not a learning situation someone should have to pay for.

The invidual party sponsors will determin access to their parties. Most of them will require your show badge, others will pass out party invites.
Thanks for the kind words and if you have any questios, feel free to contact me personally.

Who thinks AVNFarley had no idea what he was walking into when he posted this thread? hahaha

remember when Aly worked there and she posted her first AVN thread? wow, that was crazy, but at least she addressed every post and was SO professional, Farley just seems to be ignoring most of what is posted in this thread

Farley didn't post the thread. He is the one thanking everyone for the few love posts though.
+
The Florida show was a good show. Even the people I spoke with on the show floor were satisfied with their results.
+
A wise move on AVN's side would have been to announce the new site and direct people to the link Cyndalie posted illustrating the new plan introducing us gradually to the new concept, not dumping it out for action/reaction tug-of-war GFY style. Renee Johnson is a smart, capable lady - if she focuses her attention on the January Internext it will be a good show. I would venture to add that we all make a show successful as well through our participation, and maybe we can expand on that a bit as these posts progress.
+
Aly is another smart, capable lady and she gave it her best shot. AVN is an institution, and like most traditional corporate institutions appears resistant to change. The mere fact they are completely revamping the historical crown jewel of the online adult entertainment show circuit proves they are recognizing industry trending...but perhaps you can't expect it to be 180 degrees the first time out. Last January was no fun - I expect this January will be very different. We will be there.

The next biggest suggestion in the thread was to enhance the seminars and the quality and range of topics covered to be more specific and beneficial to people. Something to justify the cost. In fact if done right, people would probably pay more than $250 in order to gain knowledge in areas they lack if it was done correctly and had the quality of speaker on the subject willing to give real solid info.
The seminars are being expanded. They have some great topics from what I have seen.

Brandon, I'm happy to answer questions here but I'm not seeing too many direct questions...mostly just complaints.

I offered to speak to anyone directly in an effort to quickly reply to any specific questions people may have. Why is that a bad thing?

Please feel free to post questions if you feel the answers will be of value to you.
Thanks,

I concur. I enjoy playing at your Tourney and at your after hours one-table tourneys. I think you're going to need more than 3 tables at your after hour games.

Looking forward to it Mitch. Take care.

Im gonna say this.. my 1st internext show 4 years ago was good. I spent 20,000 fucking dollars on a booth space 2 years ago , i was told i would have PRIME location and i was stuick in the back by the bathrooms and the joke of a food court they set up. On top of everything , the fucking people couldnt get in as it was a clusterfuck on entrance . And did I mention they overlapped the shows in 2 different fucking locations. which meant I had to lose a day in one of my spots as I did AVN also.

Thank god i dint do it last year as there was absolutely no one there. And to make things worse they had AVN and Internext at the SAME FUCKING TIME !!!!!!!!!!!

I did the Miami show and half the floor was empty comared to years past.

So whats the clusterfuck of 2007 gonna be.

Time to let X Biz take over

Wow, I am quite shocked reading this thread and seeing some people take this post as an opportunity for yet another cheap shot at AVN. I think we need to give them some props for taking responsability for the last show not being a huge success and going to the brainstorming table. This new show program clearly took some time and research, let's give them some credit for assessing the problem and figuring out what they needed to do in order to give the webmasters what they want... At least they are taking the steps and revamping! If this experiment goes bad, then do as you must but in the meantime, the least we can do is remain open minded. Regardless of what, the Internext shows have always had the most attendance and have been the most profitable, at least that's been the case for me so I will be there and I'm sure a bunch of other webmasters will be too.

I think people are mostly wondering what the $250/$300 charge is for?? I attended the Phoenix Forum and maybe doing a free pre registration and then charge if you do not get in on that is fine. But seems from what I am reading people do not see what they are paying for.

wow, let me say there are three types of people posting in this thread

1. avn ass kissers

2. those that are posting without ever reading

3. realists

Farley, if you expect me to call you privately about issues I have addressed publicly, then can I ask this...is it all right if everything is recorded to post on GFY when I call you?

Farley, give us an internext seminar/speakers schedule, let everyone see what that $250 is getting them

and if you post the same old topics that have been covered every year for the past 3 years, well, I will just have a nervous breakdown

once again, I will state this, AVN is out of touch with the webmaster community, and it is BEYOND me why you all let them lead you in the way they are when they have absolutely NO vested interest in the online marketplace

Without a doubt this was one of the best I've been too.

Are we going to need to buy badges for talent, models, etc this year?

Is the circle bar going to be an open bar?

Is the lounge area going to be set up in such a way (noise barriers, ambient noise, etc) so as to reduce and minimize overhearing neighboring conversations?

I went last year as my first time, really great networking.. very different kind of crowd from adult....

I went last year to Affiliate Summit instead of Internext due to the outrageous hotel rates.. after internext, rates were much lower.

those that are going.. don't use the term "mainstream".

don't forget Xbiz forum (which i have to say was a great event) in vegas pricing:
Event Registration: $149 ($200 after June 12th)

It was the first show, and the difference in price is not that much.

I came in sunday, tail end at internext last year, and i do understand how bad it was.

Complaining about the price is not a constructive gripe...

those that are top affiliates will be able to get into the parties where alot of the networking happens without even registering.

those that are making bank won't have any problems with $250 registration fee.

those that attend seminars to learn stuff won't have a problem with $250 that gives them access to seminars, floors, and parties to network, etc

i think there have been alot of good constructive suggestions.

and yes, i understand that its more than just the $250.. its the hotel stay, the airfare, etc that rack up the expenses.

but in the end, the wallet will be the judge... and at every event and every situation you always try to make the best of things.. so if the new floor is lame, if the circle bar leaves you just walking around in circles, you'll find a way to make some deals and get business done... or just don't go back

Damn..after attending last year and seeing the outcome, and reading this thread makes me think, we should just get a suite at Mandalay and party..
