New Planets in the Solar System

"The tally of planets in our solar system would jump instantly to a dozen under a highly controversial new definition proposed by the International Astronomical Union.

Eventually, there would be hundreds of planets, as more round objects are found beyond Neptune."

Full Story Here

I think the new planets got robbed ... dumb names if you ask me.

Good point ... I shouldn't say they all got robbed, the one that stuck in my head and made me make that comment was the 2003 UB313 name.

But Uranus still does bring a giggle everytime one says it. ; )

I don't think any of those objects shuld be considered planets.

Just because they have sufficient mass to create enough gravity and become circular over time doesn't change the fact the objects are in the kuiper belt, or closer to it than the sun...it would be better to just define any object within that belt not a planet within the solar system proper but rather a "pluton" or something similar.

Quote:
So to recap: Pluto and 2003 UB213 would be planets, plutons and also dwarves.
It should have one classification only.

Actually the center of gravity for Pluto is between Pluto and Charon. Thus making it a binary planet system. Kind of like binary stars that rotate around each other.

Fuck that shit! Charon is Pluto's butt buddy sure enough, doesn't make it an equal. If Charon becomes a planet I'll personally kick the shit out of three astronomers a day until they revoke its status.

if Charon is not a planet then neither is Pluto. Pluto was probally a moon of Neptune that escaped from it's gravity long ago.

So? Pluto is a planet because the people say so. Pluto's popularity as a planet will remain because of the people's will, not because any of your "science". Charon, fuck, nobody cares about that piece of shit rock. Pluto is where it's at.

I vote to rename "Uranus" to your "YourButthole", that way there will be no more confusion.

That name will be perfect for those planetoids situated between planets Jupiter and Mars.
