Anyone ever make salsa?
I have an ass load of tomatoes that I need to do something with, and salsa seems like a good thing.
I'm really not into that whole canning thing though, and am looking for some easy way to make and keep it.

So you want to make salsa, but you don't want to put it in a jar to save it for later?
Well... you could always take the tomatoes to an execution and sell them to the crowd of onlookers. Or maybe take them to a bad opera and sell them to the spectators. Actually I guess if you're to lazy to put it in a jar then driving it to an execution or an opera is out of the question. Maybe just toss them at nearby passing cars. Save a few for salsa, maybe just enough for a one time snack, and then just toss the rest. But wait if you're to lazy to put them in a jar how did you find the energy to post on gfy? Wait... YOU'RE NOT LAZY!

Frozen tomatoes? Can you do that? I never heard of that before but I guess anything can be frozen for later. Ziplock bags. My grandmother used to make salsa by the truckload and put it in ziplock bags and freeze it.

FREEZING TOMATOES Select firm, ripe tomatoes with deep red color. Wash and dip in boiling water for 30 seconds to loosen skins. Core and peel. Freeze whole or in pieces. Pack into containers, leaving 1-inch headspace. Seal and freeze. Use only for cooking or seasoning, as tomatoes will not be solid when thawed.

I did it before but if I had lots of tomatoes I'd try to do brushettas... salsa seems like a waste since the tostito one is already so good and you can buy a big jar for like 5 bucks at costco lol

Thanks guys. You just answered my question on whether it would be edible if I tried to freeze it.
Not to mention I've got a food processor borrowed so I can chop up all the onions and goodies. Appreciate it!

Hi Salena -
I make salsa on a regular basis... This is what I do: I'm not too good at measuring things out, but here goes: 1 (16 oz) can of whole peeled tomato 4 average sized roma tomato diced 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup chopped red (or sweet) onions 1 whole jalapeno finely chopped & seeded 1/2 cup chopped cilantro 3 tbsp chopped garlic 1tbsp salt 1 tbsp pepper 1/4 cup fresh lime juice combine all into a food processor or blender and blend together until it reaches desired consistancy. You can try adding tomato paste, lemon juice, green pepper, red pepper or just about any veggie you can think of to play with the taste. You can read even more variations of what I do here: http://www.sharky.com/forum/showthre...ighlight=salsa and here is where some other forum members posted links to salsa recipes: http://www.sharky.com/forum/showthre...ighlight=salsa

Here's my lame salsa mix:
- puree 1 mango and kiwi. - finely dice roma tomatos (5 or so) - add a few splashes of vinegar - two finely diced jalapenos - one finely diced habanero - two finely diced serrano - any other peppers you want - finely diced garlic clove - splash lime juice - pepper - keep adding stuff to taste.

you can't make salsa without cilantro so go get some of it at the grocery. Then you can make some pico de gallo also. Next go to the local mexican restuarant and pick up some fresh unsalted chips.
Some nights I eat a 1/4 gallon of salsa for dinner. |

Buy avacodos and use those tomatos to make guacamole.
