I have a good German friend who lives in London with no problems. When we have a few drinks together there is nothing better than watching the "Germans Are Coming" episode from Fawlty Towers.

Just dont mention the war.

I would think so... from what I've read and seen footage of, the allied armies made many german civilians move and bury the bodies of the jews and other slaughtered people.

Its about a bungling hotel owner (John Cleese) who cant get anything right. He has some german guests and because he is being so polite and trying so hard not to mention it, all he does is talk about the war.

Most military strategist agree that there would have been double the amount of people that died from the bombs had the war continued with the Japanese refusing to back down as they were.

To be honest seeing the REAL life impact of the bombs (however bad this may sound) has given the world a lesson in how horrible nukes can be.. had there not been a real life example, all the tests in the world couldn't give the common people the pyschological impact that those events did.

Germany and his people have their good and bad - just as any other country. Sometimes I like it here, sometimes I wanna get out as fast as possible. But wherever I go I will remain german, and I'm proud of that. Proud because of what was done in the last 60 years, building a democratic country from the scratch and a peaceful reunion with the socialistc Eastern Germany. And yes, with the help of the USA, England and France.

But after 60 years the times of blaming people for Hitler and the Nazis are over. In my family nearly everyone who lived at that time is dead. Either got killed in the war when british bomber burned down Hamburg or simply too old by now.

That would be the same as if I were blaming every American personally for killing indians or bringing slaves over from Africa.

Or every British for inventing concentration camps in South Africa or killing people in India.

Or every French for killing hundreds of thousands in Vietnam.

And don't get me started on Stalin.
