Locked out of namecheap - wtf

So I try to log into namecheap this morning, and I get an error saying i'm locked out due to too many failed login tries. Wtf. I haven't attempted to log in since I last registered a domain name, what kind of shit is that? Could someone really have been trying to hack into my account?

Anyway, anyone have this issue? If so, how long does support usually take to get back to you if you e-mail them directly? I'd like to call, but I can't find a phone # on their site. Anyone know it? Thanks

I would think that such a lockout would last for only a short while, 30 minutes or so.

Heh, more from the message...

The user name will be enabled after 12/12/2099 EST

They actually just replied, very fast. I'm still locked out, but they want to talk to me on the phone about recent transactions? Wtf...

Email and ask vanillaice!

If it's a new account, there are serveral reasons - common is your profile and address stuff, - another is "fraud protection". They are not bad at getting back quick and resolving any issues.

Yea, the fraud protection is the reason according to the first support e-mail. They wanted my phone number, I gave it to them, but no call yet. I e-mailed them asking for a number I can call, but no reply.

And yea, it's a new account. I signed up and grabbed two domains within about a day of each other, then haven't logged in since, that was about a week ago.

fyi, I finally got in touch with them. I guess they want to verify all new accounts so I had to fax them a copy of my ID.

Weird they let me register a few domain names first though

They have no support number. Same thing happened to me. Their solution was to call me at the phone number listed on my whois to verify my info. Of course they would not tell me the exact time they would call, so I kept missing their calls. I ended up having to fax them a copy of my credit card and driver's license because the phone call thing was just not working out.

Total pain in the ass.

Namecheap are resellers, not an actual registrar. So you may be dealing with a middle man who has to report back to enom (who you are actually buying Namecheap domains from).

Yea, I had my phone on me when they called, so I was able to get through right away, but wtf. I faxed the copy about 1/2 hr before my last post, and they said they would activate my account shortly after the fax. Still not active. I tried to call back the number that was on my caller ID, no luck.

I'm about 1 hr away from sucking it up and going with godaddy for a year with the domain I want. I hate how they raised their privacy price though, but so far namecheap has been a little too elusive and shady for me to completely trust.

Hopefully it's just a bad first experience, but i've never had any issues like this with godaddy, even though I hear from many people how bad they suck.

Think it's just a bad start vanillaice - and, hate to say it, got a feeling someone has forgotten about you.

They can sort that stuff immediately.. I'd suggest if it's not operational in an hour - you get a hold of them again

Thanks for the replies, I went to dinner after my post, came back to see an e-mail saying my account is re-active. I've heard too many good things about namecheap to let this ruin it for me, but definitely not a good start
