Good thread topic actually....

Came out of college dirt poor. I'm talking $30k in school loans, credit card bills, and living paycheck to paycheck on spaghettios and ramen.

Got a full time job and was also making a lot of money on the side. The side money went from $500/month, to $1000, to $2000, and on and on. I didn't really know what to do with the money any more so I spent like a moron. I remember buying an IPOD and 3 weeks later the new one came out. I just went and bought the new one and the old one sat in my drawer. I bought a new laptop every 6 months, a car, big screen TV, tons of DVDs, and I ate out every single meal. I'm not kidding, I went to the grocery store one time in the course of 5 months. Just picked up essentials like milk down at the convenient store.

After a nice tax bill, I wised up and started living a lot cheaper. Just throwing money into different savings and investments now. Still bites my ass to think of the complete bullshit I wasted my money on.

I was living the bling bling life style with a nice DENALI and a phat apartment. All that change, when my third child was born. I started investing, got life insurance and got a house with a fat mortgage.

The fucked up part is when you get into your later years, all the fun stuff is not as fun, and you become conservative and frugal, and then you look back on all the money you spent on really stupid things, especially stuff just to impress people, and think WTF was I thinking living like that?

Simple living is so much more relaxing, stress free, tranquil, and enjoyable.

Plus the luxury toys tend to attract lots of users and mooches into your circle of friends, girlfriends, etc. who are just being your friends cause you're the entertainment provider and payor.

Back in the day I made really good money and was stupid with it, seems that I am not alone spending money on cars and dumb shit but after spending most of the money I earned and was broke for the most part I kinda wised up.

I can't say that I wised up all that much though because I still buy watches, expensive sunglasses, penthouse condo and new car as of today if all goes well at the dealer, guess I am still wigger rich to a point, one thing I don't do though is go out and spend 300 bucks a night at a night club, last bar tab I had was 30 bucks and I drank all night!! But after all I spend I still put a lot back into savings that I don't touch and invest in some in other things.

I bought a watch, that was it. I was jsut in Europe for a few weeks and didnt buy anything.

I'm save. Once I hit my goal, I'll start spending. You never know when it'll end, so I'm just saving till I feel 100% scure. I'll buy that 911 GT/Turbo in a few more years.

96-98 I was completely out of control.

Went from unskilled labor, street punk facing life as an uneducated adult with a broken, troubled past when I met the adult internet and domain names..

I spent more money in those two years than anyone in my family ever made in their lifetimes combined (generations deep).

Had a big, BIG problem with the IRS for a few years. Lost everything and then some... Rags to riches to rags in less time than it takes people to get a degree.

Doing okay now. Finally get and practice how to control myself, manage money, taxes, etc.. Should have a future if cancer, bird flu or the boogey man don't get me first

...nice thread btw..

i used to go through about $500 dollars a day back in highschool when i was slangin dope. new clothes, alcohol, girls, etc.. hookin up the bouncers at the clubs and gettin in at 17. drivin around in a friends 99 mercedes s500 with the $5k system in the back. pretty much if you had the hookup in the city it was coming from us in one way or another.

everyday chillin at a friends flop house, his parents split and his mom was bangin some coca cola exec from overseas. parties at 10am in the morning, girls running around the front yard naked, etc.. picture yourself as a teenager, whatever you wanted, we had. dope, alcohol, a place to bang some pussy, car, whatever.. parents damn near disowned me about 10 times, getting harassed by the cops constantly. hell we knew the whole SPD by name. anyway, shit changes, friends die, people move, etc..

I've never been that way. I like nice things but I never had enough easy money to buy anything. I paid my way thru university and after that began working online. There was a time when I ate out 3 times a day ever day, but that was more for convenience than anything else. That all ended when I bought my house. I drive a Toyota Corolla because it drives well and rarely breaks down. I know of guys my age still living with their parents who drive $45,000 vehicles. Why not buy a house with that $45k instead.

With that said, when I buy big items I try to buy quality things. For example, instead of buying crappy furniture that I'll have to replace, I buy good stuff. It costs more upfront but actually saves money in the long run and is more satisfying, I think.

But it's probably different for you Roger. You said your dad is a millionaire from his contruction company. I would probably have been a bigger spender if I could fall back on my parents if I lost my shirt. Without having that security, I don't take those risks. Sometimes you only get one chance to scrape some money together in this life. Not to get that confused with risks such as investments.... those I am willing to take.

first i paid off all my debt and built up some cheese then i got an apartment downtown where all the nightlife is. then i bought a big screen tv, a nice leather couch and a celebrity tempurpedic.. (thats ALL you need to live nicely).

i figure im using the apt to get totally focused, got nice things as an incentive to work harder so i would be relaxing on my free time in style. then i bought a nice benz and keep my living expenses to around 2k a month.

i recently bought an excercise bike...now i just work out all day and improve my physique.

I was raised on the southside of Atlanta so that phrase Nigga Rich has been part of my vocabulary since the seventies.

It's My Favorite Kind of RICH!

Easy come Easy go we learned early. As you age and start to realize the value of a dollar you will look at YOUR hard earned money a little differently! The one thing that I found in common is the less you had to work for whatever money you came across the faster you spend it.

Not gonna lie I always new I had family to fall back on but I'm a very proud person and they didnt help me financially at all.. I built everything on my own with nothing at all but hard work and luck. I had to rebuild a few times but I learned from my mistakes. I still like fancy things but I invest more for my future now

lived like a cheap bastard from 1991-1999, starting living life a little after 2000, but still reinvested majority of what i earned, got divorced and decided it's time to have some fun, guess i am hitting my 'n igger rich' phase now, picked up a new sl amg and broke ground on a 18k sq foot home which should be done about this time next year, but being the cheap bastard that i was in the 90's is now allowing me to spend a majority of incomings on things i want and not feel too bad about it.

I guess I never went through the phase, I've always been rather humble about the money I make and just let it sit in rather conservative investments.

I wouldn't exactly call it the nygger rich phase - but when we finally got some decent revenue rolling in...we did treat ourselves to a few nice things (bigscreen Sony, new home audio system, new vehicles). But we knew where to draw the line and managed to spend responsibly. My wife and I both come from good middle-class families that taught us to use our money wisely (for the most part).

Take a lesson from some folks who have more money than all of us put together.

One drives a 4 - 5 year old car, - has no time to waste buying shit, - has several OK homes, but still "moderate" - starts work at 4am and is still active at 11pm (tho is known to pester his lawyer at 2am, but he now leaves the phone off the hook) - says nothing about anything, but listens hard.

Why does he bother? Because he is looking after his assets and has the responsiblity of carrying 1000's of people.

What would he prefer to do? Get up in the morning and go horse riding and not have to think of work. One day, he may even do that.

If you want a real wake up call work in collections. Yes, even people with six figure yachts go broke unexpectedly. And it happens more often than you may think.

Making money off of other people's misery sounds dirtier than porn, but there's a lot to be learned.

Absolutely... I've personally made collection calls to a couple of celebrities in the U.S... not gonna name names for obvious reasons. I've had grown men cry their eyes out on the phone with me during collection calls for huge ticket items like yachts. The bigger they are the harder they fall for sure.

I got rid of my biggest exspense, a 6 foot former beauty contest winner. The one you met in 2003.

Goddamn, I gotta find me one that isn't so fucking high maintenance.
