Letter to W. Bush from IRAN

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/world...emonde.letter/

Ahmadinejad?s letter to Bush
Wednesday, May 09, 2006 Posted: 12:00 PM EDT (1600 GMT)
The following is the letter sent by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to President Bush on Monday. The letter comes from the Web site of the French newspaper Le Monde. A White House official confirmed to CNN that this is the exact English translation of the letter the White House received. (Note: The acronym PBUH stands for Praise Be Unto Him)

You think Bush had patience to read such a long letter? I doubt it since the US refused to return the first communication in what 2 decades.

They don't necessarily but they do respect Jesus enough to quote him and believe in his word. They believe he was on the same level as thier prophet Mohammed, it's just that they follow Mohammed's teachings more since he is more culturally significant to them.

The response to this letter from the White House has been pretty depressing. I don't think Bush will ever directly respond to some of the points raised. The world is going to digest this letter and talk about it for months to come. Lots of good points in it.

Muhammad was a big fan of Jesus as well as all of the prophets of the Old Testament... especially Abraham of course.

The Quran specifically instructs Muslims not to try to convert "People of the Book" (Christians or Jews) basically because they all already believe in the same God, and because the Quran is more or less an extension of the same message from the same God just aimed at Arabs.

That's my understanding of it anyway, it's a very complicated religion, ever since the death of Muhammad it's been more or less chaos.

PS: Interesting letter, but I agree that there is no possible way that G.W. Bush would take the time to read it. As sick as that concept is ...

The first four pages bring up some good points, though alot of the same things he says about American society and government contradicts what Iran does, and has done in the past.

After that it gets wayyyy wayyyyy into religion. And I for one, think religion mixing in government is terrible.

Reading something that makes sense, but that goes against what you stand for or believe must be very exhausting....

Yes, that's why you see headlines like this:

Quote:
US will not reply to Iran letter, wants real progress on nuclear issue WASHINGTON (AFX) - The US said it will make no formal response to a letter sent by the Iranian president, but President George W Bush vowed to pursue diplomatic efforts to counter Iran's nuclear program.

As Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Indonesia, where he could ask Jakarta to mediate in the nuclear row, Tehran said it was waiting for a reply to his 18-page letter to Bush.

But the White House insisted there will be no response on top of comments already made by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who said it contained nothing new that offered hope of settling the nuclear dispute.

Although a New York meeting yesterday of the foreign ministers of six major powers failed to agree on how to tackle Tehran, Rice said: 'The international community is united that there must be a strong message to Iran through the Security Council that their behavior to date is unacceptable.'
While the nuclear situation does need to be addressed, the Iranian president brought up a lot of issues that no one of high political rank ever addressed in public. It's easier for Bush to just gloss over the statements made and basically stick his fingers in his ears and say "La la la la la la la la... I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Like a little kid would during an argument.

References to religion is weak, but yeah I get his point.

This is nothing new to me anyway. While every President and many in the US claim to be Christians none really are. The only person I know of that I could say is a shining example of the tenets of Christianity is Mother Theresa. The rest of us are bullshitters, war mongerers, money seekers, paying lip service to the notion that we're anything remotely close to what Jesus was and wished for us to be.

and it needs to say " terror" , "nukular", "terrarists" , "freedom", "liberation" , " democracy", "oil" , "thugs", ...

Otherwise, he is pretty lost after the first line ....

On a serious note, the USA already has it's agenda, as per the neo-cons of the New Century ....

The thing that gets me is... that a man who claims to be so religious there seems to be a lack of respect for the seven deadly sins... Greed is the one that stands out most for me and this administration.

When you think about it, what is W gonna do with that pile of horse crap? Looks like a highschool project gone bad at a religious school.

Maybe Jerry Farwell could give a hand in a response letter. Or just stamp the whole damn thing JESUS SAVES and send it back????

Couldn't have said it better.

One thing that interested me was the high level of articulation in the letter. All that I know of Iran's leader is mostly from the nightly newscasts - and I always understood him to be a low-brow fanatical despot. Instead, the letter was quite well-written, intelligent...and raises a few very good points. Even if Bush were to read it (or has already read it)...I'll wager much of it sailed right over his head. It didn't have cartoons to hold his attention.

On the surface it reads like somewhat of a proverbial olive branch - but the U.S. has good reason not to trust Iran (everyone remember the Ayatollah Khomeini regime and the American hostage crisis?). There's no doubt they can be backstabbing and extremely two-faced.

But overall, I must admit it was good to read a letter written in open frankness and not couched in diplomatic double-talk.

I'm not trying to defend Muslims or Islam here, just saying that if you look at Muhammad's words from a historical context, he was not hateful towards Chrisitians and Jews as so many of his followers unfortunately are. Again, I'm not speaking about Muslims, but telling you my understanding of Muhammad's words.

"We believe in what has been revealed to us, just as we believe in what has been revealed to you [Jews and Christians]. Our God and your God are the same; and it is to Him we submit" 29:46

But just like most of the major religions today, the leaders words and actions couldn't be more contradictory to the words and actions of most of their "followers".

Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc ... one of the greatest things we all have in common is the propensity to take inspired words, claim allegiance-to and faith-in them, and then spend the rest of our lives in hypocricy.

I gotta admit, just as I am impressed by the letter, I am scared of the level of blind faith he's showing in religion as he understands it. The world would never be safe with him having more clout either.

Rabid Muslims on the left, fanatical Christians on the right... Hell, we're all fucked any way you slice it.
