But not all economists agree. Another highly respected researcher, David Card of the University of California at Berkeley, recently published a study challenging Borjas? conclusions and asking, ?Is the New Immigration Really so Bad?? The study finds that the gap between wages for high school graduates and high school dropouts has remained nearly constant since 1980, despite the increased supply of less-educated workers from abroad. ?Overall, evidence that immigrants have harmed the opportunities of less educated natives is scant,? he concludes. Christ do you even read these articles through after you google them to "own" me or are you were you actually trying to make a point? For every expert taht says one there there's another who will disagree anyway. Not to mention the fact that this article is only marginally related to what I said in the first place. |

Read the conclusion: ?It?s unclear how many Americans are really, truly displaced by illegal aliens,? said Nariman Behravesh, chief economist for Global Insight. ?To me it?s kind of a red herring.? Immigrant labor makes a wide range of services more affordable and generally raises the standard of living, he said. And he said unlike Europe, which attracts immigrants because of the generally good public welfare benefits, immigrants come to this country to work and chase the American dream. ?The evidence suggests that immigrants, legal and illegal, tend to give more than they take,? he said. ?They are here for the work -- not for the benefits.? Now, let me translate that in simpler english for you: Basically there's no evidence that Americans are really, truly displaced by illegal aliens. However there's evidence that immigrants, legal and illegal, tend to give more than they take, they are here to work and not for the benefits. Now, got that? I didn't think so lol. Let me remind you your klan's been losing members since the 60's :helpme And oh btw, I know it's hard for you to understand but some people have their homepages set to msn.com (not like yours thehun.net) like mine so I read that article as soon as it came out before Google could even Google it up :winkwink: Good to see you know "Google" thou.. that's a start :thumbsup |

Government has NEVER in the history of man ruled a people against thier will. Sure, there have been governments that have had alot of unhappy citizens under thier wing and alot of bad things being done, but when everyone gets on board in the citizenry the government is gone. Might be a long, bloody fight on the way out, but its gone. People get on board when things get so bad they finally decide that they'd rather die than take another minute of it. We cant turn this place into a soup kitchen for every poor slob who has a hard lucky story and not a dime to spare. Its not economically intelligent and its not fair to those of us who actually do own shares in this county. Natural selection means that some people arent going to make it. Thats the whole fucking point. To keep the population under control to keep the populus from overrunning the enviroment. In a herd of buffalo, the weak and the sick are always the first to be eaten by preadators or to die off. When the natural selection component is completely removed from a situation, you no longer have human beings, you have a virus. A plauge. A disease. An animal that consumes everything in its path as quickly as possible. Its sad to watch people die. But it is part of nature. There is a point to it. There is a reason for it. And if we keep fucking with the numbers like we are, we are going to make this entire planet uninhabitable. |

Hmm.. the long pointless post above reminds me of the popular saying too 'everything that goes up must come down'. look at the brits they were the #1 country in the world, pretty much ruled the entire world yet they eventually came down. History repeats itself. U.S. is the top country in the world today but won't be forever. It'll be sad to watch ourselves go down. But it is part of nature. There is a point to it. There is a reason for it. And if we keep fucking with other countries like we are, we are going to make this entire planet uninhabitable. Ok now that sounds more to the point on how a planet could become uninhabitable rather than how the illegal immigrants in the U.S. would make the entire planet uninhabitable :helpme Ok now man! Wtf u doing on the computer that's supposed to be for civilized modern people? go on now.. keep moving the herd of buffalo along :1orglaugh

Read below how Mexico treats its immigrants. Maybe they should change their own laws before telling us to change ours. Mexico only cares about Mexico and doesn't care of the US gets filled with millions of people they don't want in their country.
The Mexican government should be overthrown. http://washingtontimes.com/commentar...1644-4215r.htm For example, according to an official translation published by the Organization of American States, the Mexican constitution includes the following restrictions: ? Pursuant to Article 33, "Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country." This ban applies, among other things, to participation in demonstrations and the expression of opinions in public about domestic politics like those much in evidence in Los Angeles, New York and elsewhere in recent days. ? Equal employment rights are denied to immigrants, even legal ones. Article 32: "Mexicans shall have priority over foreigners under equality of circumstances for all classes of concessions and for all employment, positions or commissions of the Government in which the status of citizenship is not indispensable." ? Jobs for which Mexican citizenship is considered "indispensable" include, pursuant to Article 32, bans on foreigners, immigrants and even naturalized citizens of Mexico serving as military officers, Mexican-flagged ship and airline crew, and chiefs of seaports and airports. Article 55 denies immigrants the right to become federal lawmakers. A Mexican congressman or senator must be "a Mexican citizen by birth." Article 91 further stipulates that immigrants may never aspire to become cabinet officers, as they are required to be Mexican by birth. Article 95 says the same about Supreme Court justices. In accordance with Article 130, immigrants -- even legal ones -- may not become members of the clergy, either. ? Foreigners, to say nothing of illegal immigrants, are denied fundamental property rights. For example, Article 27 states, "Only Mexicans by birth or naturalization and Mexican companies have the right to acquire ownership of lands, waters and their appurtenances, or to obtain concessions for the exploitation of mines or of waters." ? Article 11 guarantees federal protection against "undesirable aliens resident in the country." What is more, private individuals are authorized to make citizen's arrests. Article 16 states, "In cases of flagrante delicto, any person may arrest the offender and his accomplices, turning them over without delay to the nearest authorities." In other words, Mexico grants its citizens the right to arrest illegal aliens and hand them over to police for prosecution. Imagine the Minutemen exercising such a right. ? The Mexican constitution states that foreigners -- not just illegal immigrants -- may be expelled for any reason and without due process. According to Article 33, "the Federal Executive shall have the exclusive power to compel any foreigner whose remaining he may deem inexpedient to abandon the national territory immediately and without the necessity of previous legal action." |

Hey Escorpio,
Thanks for feeding the ongoing debate about immigration. I find it awfully convenient that the right wing brings out these issues during election years in an effort to re-invigorate their base and those just right of the middle. Not that we have more pressing issues facing the US like an ongoing war in the Middle East, rising fuel prices, indifferent consumer confidence, an attack on our privacy and civil liberties and a more profound distrust in the Executive Branch. And yes I am a liberal. |

The Philadelphia Nativist Riots (also known as the Philadelphia prayer riots of 1844 and the Bible Riots) were a series of riots that took place May 3 and July 4, 1844. The riots involved conflicts between nativists and recent Irish Catholic immigrants. I guess it's human nature to fear newer immigrants :( |

i find it amusing that anyone who disagrees with unregulated immigration is "anti-immigrant" and racist. truthfully, i myself don't have a problem with anyone who wants to come and CONTRIBUTE to this country. not all illegals exploit the system. not all illegals are criminals. im sure most who are here now actually are beneficial to the economy. what you don't realize is the usa cant just open the borders and let anyone and everyone who wants a better life to come in whenever they wish, on their terms. whats the solution? should we make it easier for 100,000 people each year to enter legally and become citizens? 200,000? 1,000,000? what about Mr 1,000,001 who didn't make it this year but his family is starving in South America? if he gets turned away he'll be out in the desert risking his life to come in just as people are doing now. we need both an economically sound immigration policy as well as border regulation so at a minimum we know who is in this country and where they came from. the united states doesn't have enough work/money for the entire worlds poor, so limits must be set. racist |

Be legal and there is no issue. |

REAL ID Act of 2005 (a part of Public Law P.L. 109-13) prohibits States from issuing identification or driver's permit cards to anyone who cannot demonstrate that they are legally in the USA, taking full effect in 2008. Citizenship and/or immigration status is to be clearly denoted on these ID cards and they automatically expire on the expiration date of non-citizens' visas or other authorizing documentation. These IDs will be tied to online databases which will allow instant verification of the validity of these documents at low cost or no cost to the person seeking verification. As of 2006, the anticipated effect of this legislation is to make it increasingly difficult for illegal aliens to use counterfeit documents to or to live and work illegally in the USA. However, at the same time, the REAL ID Act of 2005 effectively imposes a mandatory national ID for all US Citizens as well. This could discourage more illegals to enter the country thou at the same token, would drive up the risk since immigrants without proper legal status have no valid identity cards or other official identification documents, they may have reduced or even no access to public health systems, proper housing, education and banks, which may result in the creation or expansion of an illegal underground economy to provide these services. So bottomline, stricter border security could make the rest easier. |
