The problem with porn, for many. is it's not black and white like programming and that confuses them. there is pros and cons on all sides.

Solo girl retains better than multi girl sites. So you rely on the surfer falling in love with one girl and staying because he can't find her elsewhere. Ratios on hits to site and conversion would be low, retention would be high. But then it depends on the girl, how she's shot and very important how she's sold. Plus updates, so that rule goes out the window.

Niche sites retain better. Well assuming the guy shooting and selling have a clue about the niche they might do. But the idea that a surfer is going to spend $30 a month to wait for 5 new scenes when the rest of the sites content is on his HD is ludicrous. He comes back in 6 months, spending the time in between on the other 100 sites doing the same niche.

A new site strapped for cash can't afford PPS. So they can afford $30,000 worth of content to put the site up or is $5,000 going to retain well enough?

We update 3 sets or videos a day, 90 a month and retain fairly well. But what we are finding is the returning member numbers are awesome, so we will move to offering the option of 60% rev share or $30 PPS. Got to do a few things first but it will happen.

But this whole thread largely assumes one thing, affiliates are sheep and sponsors are out to cheat them.

I do not think affiliates are sheep and I may be an arrogant arse hole, but I do not cheat.

I think those who can drive significant amounts of traffic that will sign up know what they are doing and sponsors recognise this. The affiliates who make money send it to the site that return the most $$ per click, not the ones with the biggest % on the webmasters page.

Sponsors realise that traffic is very important and paying an affiliate more for his traffic keeps him sending it.

It's all about $ not %, PPS, Niche or anything else.

You have to send your traffic to the place it makes the most money for you.

Who cares if a revshare join only makes you $15, if the site converts 1:200? Yes $30 sounds great but what if the site converts 1:1000?

It's all about how many hours you work, money you invest and the $$$ that goes into your bank account.

I totally agree the margins have definatly shrunk over the last few years, but assuming both models are on the up and up I can't see how you can make the arguement that it is any different for revshare programs as they have to deal with the same issues, with the exception of people who have traffic that tends to produce 'savvy' surfers focusing on the the PPS programs harder.

Sure, but the thing that gets me in these debates is the implication that it's impossible to afford a $35-40 PPS payout without doing 'creative' business practices as it's simply not true. If a rev-share program can make you $60over a longer timeline then the PPS could in theory afford to pay you the same amount if they had enough capital to front themselves the difference over taht same timeline. It's really a function of growth and cashflow management (part of why rev-share is great for newer programs as PPS imposes an artifical cap on how fast you can grow, obviously).

PPS or Revshare is irrelevant really. You send "x amount" of traffic to A and the same traffic/source "x amount" to B and compare the unique cpc.

then send the traffic to which ever is making you more. Both program models have their pros and cons, but it aint really rocket science. :)
