Of course its a great idea for Walmart. Not only will they catch all the business of small town folk who like to do and buy everything at their Walmart, but more importantly, they are doing what they do best, they are applying their business model of low cost-astronomical volume to the banking industry, which will be undeniably fruitful imo, and another feather in their cap of dominance. I dont even like WM, but as a case study it's super interesting.

The Wal-Mart super centers already have bank branches. So i don't think it will be much of a difference if Wal-Mart runs them.

Walmart world domination is on the way.
Not such a bad thing. I'm all about price and if it is cheaper, which Walmart always is, I'm going to buy it there.
Pass over my Walmart bank account and mortgage please, I'd bet if they get the bank they wont just have the cheapest rates but they'll have the cheapest rates by far.

in philippines Walmart Strategy is like SM (Super Market) Holding corporation , they owning BDO BANK (established 1990's) , which have 250 branches all over the philippines.... also SM MALLS have 150+ all over the philippines... and right now they trying to have a construction company...

Lesson.... dont stick to one business... try to think other resources....

Wal Mart will begin to gobble up more and more industry as time goes. And as long as they continue to branch, they dont have to worry about antitrust.

the main reason they wanted to get into banking was to underwrite their own merchant accounts instead of going to underwriting banks, they will save a SHITLOAD of cash if they are able to do this

Instead of an ATM there'll be a 12 year old Malaysian girl standing outside the bank after hours. You tell her your pin number and she gives you the cash.

They're good people. I know most of the family very well. I party at their Malibu estate all the time.

This just in. Wal-Mart scientists break the genetic code

Their first order of business will be to start cloning Gabe, the 70 year old greeter who hands out shopping carts.
Rumors have been heard that Wal-Mart's CEO, infuriated over employee's demands for minimum wage and bathroom breaks has threatened to clone the entire workforce.
"Employees? We don't need no stinking employees"

Wal-Mart negotiates truce with Iran over uranium enrichment

Tehran - Iranian leaders have agreed to cease all uranium enrichment in return for 3 Wal-Mart supercenters to be built in Tehran.
Said one Mullah "The thought of being a nuclear power was nice, but we love all of this cheap stuff from China. I can buy T-shirts now for $1.50. Allah will be pleased"

In other news, President Bush and the republican led congress have agreed to lower the federal minimum wage by $2 an hour retroactively to the year 2000. All minimum wage employees who were overpaid during this time will have thier wages garnished until full restitution has been made to their employer.
