I disagree with you completely for several reasons.

It's fundamental to the WordPress concept that appearance (theme) and coding are separate, so I don't see any rationale - except in the case of much more expensive custom requests - for designers to get involved in the codebase.

Otherwise as soon as he starts doing any mods or installing plugins and hits problems, they could be very difficult to fix.

I discussed this with mrkris last night, and he has some good suggestions. The codes that he thinks should be implemented wouldn't be too intrusive to the end user. I do agree with you though, if you went crazy with the code there would be no way that the end user would be able to make any changes at all.

My business partner is shacked up with a stripper right now and hasn't been to the office for days.
