![]() Well I am looking into DRM and p2p type solutions. I am wondering if there is any easy/cheap way to setup your own DRM authentication server? Is that even necessary/possible? When companies say 5000licenses/month does this mean 5000 licenses for the one file? Or 5000 files?
What I'm trying to do is add popups to videos, for p2p release. Thanks guys

I think DRM solutions suck.
Necessary in some cases, but all I've seen suck: They all don't work in all instances, like an un-DRM'd video. They're a pain in the ass to implement. Etc. Etc. It's almost as horrible as developing content for wireless, which is even a bigger nightmare. However, I'll give props to ObjectCube ( www.objectcube.com ) for trying their best at providing DRM solutions.

Not sure
There may not be a cheap way to setup a DRM authentication server. When it says 5000 licenses, that means that every time someone downloads and plays your video or whatever you are trying to DRM, that equals one license. If that particular file is downloaded 5000 times and played (first time play only) then the 5000 license limit has been reached. Hope that's not too confusing. We use the CCbill DRM system, it's not bad overall. We have been using it since they came out with it back in 2003 or 2004. I think they give you either 10000 or 50000 licenses (not sure) per month.

with software like snagit and similar ... DRM is obsolete... members trying to get around it have no probs... so seeing your content all over p2p sites will never stop .... sweetentertainment doen't use DRM and I personally think it's just a quick cash grab ....

Embedded. The coolest part about the new wave of flash video is you can present a high quality video inside of a branded player that allows the member to have on his desktop all the movies he wants to download from your site.
He can play it full screen or whatever he wants. The video using Flash 8 (On2 V6) is higher quality and smaller than WM9. But, even though he doesn't have to login or even visit the website through a browser, the flash player can authenticate him every month to make sure his card has rebilled. I don't know about you but when I was a surfer If I had the option of watching and storing porn on my computer without having to login I would. It's a great way of covering your tracks. This can also be done with On2's VP7 codec which is actually better quality than Flash 8 but an extra install is necessary, but I don't think it's as convenient as the new wave of flash.

Sure, I'll give you a few sites to check out.
The first two are obvious: www.on2.com http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...info/features/ The third is more down and dirty with the video functionality and uses: http://flashcomguru.com/ And here's one extra: http://www.flashmagazine.com/ It's definitely the future of porn video delivery. It keeps our stuff off the p2p networks and still offers a superior user experience for the surfer while making sure we get paid at the same time. I know of one feeds provider that went all flash recently. I can't remember the URL though. If you ever need a good Flash media app designer let me know 152970595 I know of a couple companies that do it well.

Make sure you have the updated On2 codecs for premiere or just use the encoder in Flash Pro. It's much better and smaller than all the flash codecs pre 2006.

DRM is in fact free. Get the WMSDK from Microsoft and if you know C#, VB, C++, VB.NET or any other .NET lang (even PHP) you can develop every thing your self. DRM is not for every thing, I for one do not push every one to use DRM (eventhough I make money selling this stuff). We are betting a lot of money in Flash, over the past one year we have developed Flash based Pay Per Min system and few other VOD solutions all based on Flash. Flash video still have some short commings, but from what they have in the labs at Macromedia I am sure by year end it will becom a defacto video codec. Jay objectcube |

Hey Jay, I've been meaning to ask you about this for a while... what software are you using for your direct DVD to Flash video conversion? I saw you mention it a couple of months ago.

Definitely, Videocharge is the my favorite converter for all things non flash.
I really mean that. It has the best quality and functions of them all and I've tried all of them. For Flash I've been using Swish Video which allows batch conversions from several file formats even WMV. I would still like to see something do it from DVD in one step.

Edit: I mean I would like to see something go from DVD to Flash (with the new codecs) in one step.
Videocharge does DVD to MPEG 1 & 2, WMV, MOV, DIVX, XVID, AVI and some other stuff with no problem.

Cool links... I have a quick question. Do I just buy Flash 8 and it will make Flash video? Or do I need to buy some special version of Flash that is seperate? I haven't used flash for a while so I am out of the loop. |

Check this out, you can edit a file, make thumbs and screencaps, chop it, convert it to your desired format in several bitrates, and upload it to the server with one click of a button! LOL And yes, basic batches can be done as well too. I have it working on a huge batch on one of my computers now.

If not, then you are fine buying the Flix Encoder which probably gives you the best quality flash file. I prefer Swish because it's a brand I trust and it has great functionality. IMHO, unless you are doing extensive flash com sever programming, Swish is the best flash authoring tool. Swish Video is just an extension of that. If you've never used it do yourself a favor and download the trial.

wow, I just got Sorenson, thanks for the link Pornwolf
one question, is it possible in Sorenson when doing the batch conversions to also do a conversion in the batch that splits up the file into multiple sections? |

Awesome I love it,
I am interested in learning a little bit more about how exactly the flash file interacts with a server? Is this 100% custom end? Or is there an out-of-the-box solution? I'm also interested in hearing ways of grabbing a watermark dynamically. Thanks

As mentioned earlier, the quality of flash video has seemed to get much better with the last version. But I would be interested in knowing exactly how embedding flash video prevents it from being captured by the screen capture software programs mentioned above, for example.
I know that Microsoft is constantly having to take steps to keep up all the links in their security chain, but there is still an analog hole as of now, because they want people to be able to watch movies on their TVs. Once the hackers seriously start tearing into the security system for the new flash files, how secure are they going to be? Adobe can not exert nearly the pressure that Microsoft can to make sure other companies are not making products to get around their system. |
