Have any of you had "complex migraines?"

I took my 14 year old son to the ER today after the school nurse called saying he had lost vision in one eye, his blood pressure was up and he was dizzy, "cold & clammy." After some tests and examining his CT Scan, they told me he had a complex migraine. His vision is back now and he feels well, but I don't know anyone that's ever had these. I'm relieved that he didn't have a stroke or a tumor, but still very concerned for his well-being.

I'm curious to know if any of you have had them. If so... did they occur often? Has it been an ongoing problem or did they stop happening at some point? Any words of advice? He'll be going to a Neurologist in a couple of days, but for now, I'd like to hear from anyone who's experienced these.

I hate being an alarmist, and am not one to suggest online medical advice, but it being your 14 year old son, you may want to spend some time googling that and reading some of the results (you're smart and I'm sure you already are, but just in case).

Get some questions together and ask the Neurologist.

Sorry that's the best I can suggest, and seriously, best wishes to your son.

Ive had a history of migraines, and I sometimes get ones as bad as the one your son encoutered. The best thing to do is make an appointment with a good neurologist and start to set up a treatment plan. A lot of migraines can be avoided by lifestyle changes (staying away from chocolate, caffiene, etc), because these are potential migraine triggers. He may also be prescribed medication specific to migraines that may be taken at the onset of a migraine. Hope this helps!

Believe me, I've been all over Google. Sometimes it's helpful to hear from people who've experienced things like this, first hand. I like to get all the info I can, from as many angles as possible. Thank you for the advice and well wishes.

dissipate, thank you for the advice

Never heard of complex migraines. I get cluster headaches though which really suck. Hopefully he's ok.

I get migraines and everything goes static in both eyes where I can't really see anything for awhile, then it clears up and I get a horrible headache. The first time I got one I was taking a math test and I was about 14. I thought I was dying also. Nobody told me it was a complex migraine, they said it was a classic migraine.
I still get these today but just not as much. I learned by not drinking or eating any caffeine I only get 1-2 of these a year. When I get one now I just relax and it's not as bad. If you get freaked out about it then you can make yourself even sicker and even start puking.

it's my first time hearing about this. I think you better ask the Neurologist coz he has the best answer to your question.

I hope for the safety of your boy
