A pitbull is more likely to attack you or your family members than a wolf is.
Wolfs always follow the leader, so they can not be allowed to get away with anything. If they feel like they are the leader they will be quite uncontrolable. Deffinately not an animal that shold be kept by people that don't have experience. Also I think you'd need to be living somewhere with plenty of space, deffinately not in a city |

I have known several wolf/Malamute mixes growing up here in Alaska. One of them was very sweet and "adopted" a little of kittens and was a great pet. Two of them were very leery, did not like being in the house and would just pace the perimeter of their yard in that slinky, wolflike way. They seemed really sad...just like a caged animal at the zoo. So basically I think its a terrible idea. If you want a dog get a dog, not a wild animal.

Probably not a good idea. My father had a wolf/german shepard. if he knew you as a puppy, you were a friend, if he didnt, you must die. The fucker was not a people person at all. hated everyone/everything, put some breather holes in my fathers neighbors arm once, and leg once. I have no idea how my parents didnt get sued. There were a few other incidents too. The town they lived in threatened many times to have him put down. luckily they live way out near nowhere. so he didnt see people often. If you put him in the car and go into town, it's an adventure, he would just stand in the back window, snarling at everything, and the real fucked up part is, no one has any idea why, but he really hated puerto ricans, if he saw one, the snarling/barking would get 10x as bad, he'd start trying to go thru the car window, clawing at the door. i guess he was racist.
On the plus side, they are smart as hell, loyal as hell, and would destroy anything they saw as a threat to his owner(s)(people he knew as a puppy) If you get one you better be damn sure you can keep it for it's entire life cause I dont think they can be adopted by someone else if they become 'incovenient'. Seems like they just dont adapt to people unless they were there when the dog was young. This one was around my daughter from the time my kid was born till the time the dog died when my daughter was seven and you could tell he saw her as a threat. never got used to her, and my kid never actually got close enough to pet the dog. He'd allow her in the house, but was not happy about it. oh and they shed like a motherfucker, fucking dog hair everywhere

Good post, you also have to think about the pack mentality of the wolf side, if its an alpha male - stay away. |

Wolfs are great pets until them become teenagers.

I had a wolf/husky hybrid for a few years. He was the sweetest dog, but he did some strange things. I am not sure how much of this is because of the wolf in him, but there were definitely some very non-dog-like behaviors. For example, when he marked his territory, he did not just lift his leg on things. He backed up to whatever he wanted to mark, lifted his tail, and sprayed diarrhea on it. (This I learned the hard way when my ex suggested I take the dog along when I walked the kids home from school.) He would also walk sideways to avoid things. He'd criss-cross his feet and just move to the side instead of turning and walking around it like dogs do. If he wanted us to slow down, he'd walk up next to us and kind of twist/flip his paw up in front of us to trip us. Our chihuahua dominated the wolf dog mercilessly. Damn, I miss that dog...

I would say NO. People have tried to domesticate dingo's here and it can be done but the bottom line is they are still wild animals and can turn on you at anytime as has happened in OZ before.

There are enough domestic dogs that need homes. Some breeds are wolf-like while still being domestic.
