Growing up my mother smoke. Now 3 of her children including me have asthma.

Growing up when we went grocery shopping my mother and many others would smoke in the store dropping their butts on the ground and putting them out there. This was something everybody did.

Growing up when we went out to eat the non-smoking section was the smallest and one of the worst locations inside most places. I can't recall how many times we got situation by the swinging kitchen doors.
Not to mention the 1/4 inch glass partitions that seperated our booth from the smoking section really did a fantastic job.

Growing up, becauuse my mother smoked I stunk all the time. I just never noticed it until my parents got divorced and we lived with my dad.
If smokers only realised how awful they smell, I think that alone might make them reconsider the habit.

Sorry if I don't share your concern for smokers. I'm a "morbidly obese" man. But my weight doesn't cause you health issues, you won't see me dripping body fat into the curbs on your street when I'm at a red light.

I don't think they should swing the pendulum so far in the other direction making people who smoke suffer. But I don't think public places should be a smoke zone.

I live in Vegas where everyone gambles, drinks and smokes. I go to a gas station and they have slot machines there. And I have to sit in a line with people smoking 10 inches away from me just so I can pay for my gas.

I just don't think you should have that right.

Property owners do have rights to do as they seem fit with their own property, but then the city makes zoning laws to regulate health and safety all the time, so I don't see how this could be different.

the reports that were issued a while ago about second hand smoke are false, they have disproved them a while ago

I'm a non-smoker but I have coincidentally dated smokers my entire life. I don't treat smokers like pariahs, they're just people who enjoy a habit. Lord knows I have my own habits.

My only rule is that there is no smoking in the house because I do not want my house to smell like stale tobacco and I don't think I should be forced to inhale secondhand smoke and put my health at risk just to accomodate my sweetheart's habit. It's an amicable compromise.

Life is too short to be so anal about everything!

- When they borrow your car, they leave burn marks on the door where they flick the ashes out the window.

- They litter the sidewalks with them. States need to do an "all smokers littering citation" in the form of a very large, but temporary tax as punishment.

- Non smoking sections of restaurants are ALWAYS the worse places to sit.

- When you are going out to eat with more than one smoker and the restaurant turns out to be non-smoking, you have to leave and find another after they gang up on you.

- If you are in the car with 3 or 4 smokers, every one of them will light up without giving a damn about the non-smoker.

in this modern world that we live in , where the factories, cars, pump out all sorts of fumes , even the brakes on cars were/are made of asbestos , when you hit the brakes asbestos dust falls to road , sure it might not be much , but get into a busy road , a gust of wind all that asbestos gets carried around

You can find a report to dispell any rumor. For every 3 negative reports on something, there are 3 positives. Everybody will find a way to prove what they want to belueve to another person.

All I know is this:
#1. My grandfather who was a non-smoker was a musician in Vegas. He played in smokey rooms for 30+ years, and came home to my grandma that smoked. He died from lung cancer (doctor told him he had the lungs of a smoker).

#2. I grew up in my grandparents home. i had chronic asthma and was hospitalized with croup every 3 months. Once my grandmother passed away, I never had another problem with my Asthma ever again...Until....

#3. Last Internext I was hanging around with friends who are chain smokers. AFter the convention ended, I was home coughing up blood for 3 days. My lungs were severely irritated.

#4. Smopkers can't smell smoke, but non-smokers can. I have a pair of jeans in my hamper that smelled up my closet so bad with smoke, that the scent attached to several other pieces of clothing that needed to be washed as well.

#5. If I need to piss, I won't do it in your food. If I want to eat, i shouldn't have smoke in my face making me want to leave immediatly.

#6. Smokers in work environments are often less productive. How many times do you see smokers taking "smoke breaks"? Non smokers only get breaks to piss and eat. Each cig takes 10 mins and the avg. smoker takes 1 break an hour. in an 8 hour day, thats an hour and 20 minutes wasted. A lot of people take up smoking just for this reason.

I have no problem with smokers who do it on their own time. If you want to smoke in your own home, do it. If you smoke outdoors away from me, thats fine. I just don't like a person's bad habbit imposed on myself, or other non smokers. I want my right to smell like I showered... I want my right to breathe clean air... I want my right to talk to a person without that person blowing smoke in my face.

(If the goal was really to co-exist while "protecting society's health" or "protecting the children" - the obvious solution would be in the first case, to allow businesses to designate themselves as smoking or non-smoking venues, and let the market take care of the rest. In the second case, the example cited in Georgia makes perfect sense. But the goal isn't to coexist. The goal is to impose a larger group's will on a smaller group.
That's the way it's always been, and the way it always will be.

I am a smoker, and I actually agree with every single thing you said....
I am pretty concious of the people around me, and if someone is uncomfortable with my smoking, I will leave and smoke elsewhere.....except in bars, if you go out to bars/clubs and expect there to be non-smoking, you are in the wrong place ;)

Overhere in Europe people are more relaxed about it. If I can't smoke in a place I will just leave. Never had someone looking angry at me because I was smoking. Anyway the last few years I only smoke about 8 or 9 cigarettes a day and I'm planning to stop in a few years from now. I don't drink and I hate drunk people so I can imagine if a person doesn't smoke he could hate the smell of smoke.

I recent study was made about worldwide health and showed Europeans live longer then Americans even when Europeans are smoking way more.

Smoking in restaurants is banned here as well but you can still smoke in bars, even I as a smoker wouldn't like to get smoke in my face when I'm eating so I'm ok with that rule.

It's very difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle but it's worth it.
I like meat, I like marlboro, I like cola but I try not to push it, even when I'm 28 I'm looking out for my health because it's so important. But I think it's best not to be to fanatic about it. I know this American lady, she gets if you light a cigarette in her home.
