Looks like people on GFY really hate GUBA.
I had never seen anything like this almost every thread on the first page has the word guba on the title, I really hope they believe in the old saying: "There's no such thing as bad publicity." Anyway if you all hate guba so much all you need to do is post the Muhammed cartoons on all their usenet groups, if possible photochop some images of the prophet on to some dirty porn, jut think "goatse muhamed". You can even watermark them with the guba logo. Then just sit back and watch the hungry muslim mob set fire to guba servers. Btw, I actually like the layout of this skin |

Not everyone hates Guba. A lot of the ones that promote them and like them just won't post. It's such hypocrisy. All the ones complaining about Guba. Fact is, some paysites used to offer newsgroup access from inside as well. Plenty of paysites couldn't care less if you use their content even if they won't give it to you freely or come right out and say you can use it. The only thing people are pissed about is that THEY'RE not making the money. It all comes down to the money and nothing more.

Everything comes down to the money. But I promise you that if someone was using my content without at least trying to upsell my sites hard then I would find them and light a torch to their asses.

You signup to promote a sponsor. You grab some content. You take the time to make some TGP galleries and freesites and submit them. You burn some bandwidth. You do this to profit from a partnership with that sponsor. Some kid likes it, downloads it and then posts it all over the place. GUBA goes out and sucks the shit in, posts it on their site and charges someone to see it. The sponsors may profit if someone decides to signup by typing in the sponsors watermarked URL. The sponsors will not have to share that revenue with those who promoted the site legally. Most programs will not allow an affiliate to post those same images in a member's area for which the affiliate charges a membership fee. Perhaps all affiliates should adopt GUBA's business model and not become affiliates. They should just charge people to see stuff they steal from other people. Except that wouldn't work because where would they get their content without affiliates who are promoting the program? Do you see a problem here? |

I don't promote Guba and I don't support theft of content. But after having experienced sponsors not giving a shit if they're content is stolen as long as it's used to promote them and make them money, I find the hypocrisy sickening. It's all about the money and that's it. |

I've long said this about Guba. Not only are they ripping us off as content producers, they're crippling the sources they steal from. Yet, they are blind to this. They don't care...because the comparatively short-term money is flowing in to their pocket. |

But what many of us are talking about here isn't our own promotion - its the flooding of newsgroups by people who steal massive quantities of our content, making it freely available - and thus providing the opportunity for Guba to suck it up and not only turn themselves a profit...but also potentially keep people from visiting OUR site to see the content. Over the years I've seen many fellow BDSM and fetish colleagues have their entire sites posted on newsgroups such as ABPEB (alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bondage) - and heard them moan about the related losses. One of the worst aspects concerning Guba is the fact that although most usenet servers have a comparatively short posting retention (usually a max. of a few days on busy newsgroups) - the pilfered content on Guba stays there long-term - thus providing continued exposure to surfers who might have otherwise missed it on Usenet. |

Maybe you do all of that and I applaud you if you do. But the vast majority of paysite programs don't and don't really care as long as they're the ones making the money. Some will even give you access etc. on the downlow and let you do whatever you want as long as it's not brought to their attention so that they have to deal with it. |

The bottom line is that there is always going to be content theft and unless you hire a huge staff, there's not much anyone can do about it. Maybe trying to find ways to make it work for you would be a better option. |

Yes there are plenty of companies out there that do what Guba does. And yes there are paysite owners that I suppose don't care. But I think the majority of the program owners out there are like BiminiBucks and find it very offensive. ![]() |

You didn't answer any of my questions though. I know you find out and out theft offensive, but what about the situations I outlined? How many licensing agreements of the content suppliers are you allowing to be broken if you give out content that maybe isn't exclusive to only you, or allowing affiliates to host your FHGs etc. etc. etc... Do you see here I'm coming from when I'm calling out the hypocrissy in this business? Many of the people complaining about the "theft" are also allowing others to steal, commit fraud etc. etc. etc. But in most cases they don't care, because it's benifiting their pocket books. |

Well most of that doesn't apply to BiminiBucks because when we launched 3 years ago the 2257 issue was looming on the horizon. So we have never offered zip files to our affiliates and have never given permissionn to take any content from our sites and use it on your servers. We offer hosting to affiliates that want to build there own galleries and do there own thing. Not saying there aren't affiliates out there that break the rules, but like we are both saying..........that is just part of the biz that is difficult to impossibe to control. Doesn't make it a pill you are willing swallow, just makes it a thorn in your side knowing its out there. And though we must accept it, I will never condone it by knowlingly doing biz with someone who does it. ![]() |

It's kinda silly to pay for such a service when anyone can get newsgroup search software free and just use their isp account to get crazy...

You are correct in saying there will always be theft. That's a given. But as others have said here already, the issue is not only theft...but the fact that GFY and Playboy Enterprises are willing to flaunt and condone this theft of content in our faces. As for "finding ways to make it work for us" - there is none. For years we've added our copyright notice, logo and URL on all our images. And yes, that serves as advertising for us. But it doesn't offset the fact that when someone has access to a mass quantity of our images via Guba's harvesting...where's the incentive for that same person to sign up to our sites as a member? You're unmistakably arguing a losing battle here. |
