You change your phone # and the last one to have it just owes everyone in town. I have had to deal with more bill collector's in my life than I have in the past week. We've had Sam's club, Sears and the bank calling 5 or more times a day, I tell them that "We just got this # and I'm very sorry your owed money but this isn't her phone # any more so could you take my # off the list please" like they never have been told that right?

What can I say to stop them? I really have never had to deal with people calling and calling about anything I have ever owed on before.

call the phone company and get another number.

Yeah, get a new number, they should leave number empty for a few months before reasigning it. That is just nuts...

Actually, the phone numbers that get reassigned to new people are supposed to be dormant for 6-12 months. Depending on the company, it can be shorter than that, but no less than 90 days because of the shortage of numbers in their phone banks, and waiting on new batch from INAC.

If you get in a situation like you describe, you just call and get a new one. They should give it to you w/o charge. I can't recall the verbage, but it's something like if you get those types of things from previous owners, then you have 30 or 60 days to change it w/o charge.

For the record, those bill collectors will just keep calling, so forego the grief, and just change your digits.

yeah, they will keep calling forever...it is the only connection they have to the person that is owing, so they won't let up

We have one that kept calling our house phone before we switched it out....some lady named bertha owed tons ofmoney to someone....and every now and then someone obviously fat and ghetto would call and ask for bertha....I fucked with them one time and said she was in the shower with Frank...the dude freaked out and said he was coming over, i would imagine someone had a rude awakening that day

That happened at our old house in Florida. We got the number and a day later we were getting 3-4 calls a day from bill collectors for this chick named Tammy. They never did stop calling after all the times we told them we just moved and got that number. oh well.

I wouldn't suggest this, because you could probably get a visit from the cops, but when I was younger I had the same thing with my cell phone, and back then I paid per minute.

I ended up spam-faxing the collection agency over and over again. But not to their fax line, their voice line.

I didn't let up for a few hours. I could hear them answer the phone and then be like "FUCK'N STOP THIS SHIT!!!" on the other end. I'm surprised they didn't press charges.

Option 1: Just demand to the creditors that all future correspondences must be in writing only and if they fail to comply you will report them for harassment. (mention fair debt collection, and no mention that you are someone else)

Option 2: Ask for supervisor and get one. Explain that you just got this number and that they must update their information immediately or you will exercise all of your rights to litigate. (again mention fair debt collection).

Option 3: Get a new number assigned.

Option 4: Become a philanthropist and pay off the persons debt.
